Finally got around to having one of these this week after buying a few Weihenstephan offerings up in Boonton. I'm a big fan of this style and even though this seemed more like a Hefeweizen to me, this was still enjoyable and true to style. Even the alcohol in this came out of nowhere, since I couldn't taste it at all!

This had a great pour to it with a cloudy, dark golden hue and an extremely fluffy head to go along with it. Not a lot of lacing to be seen but it did slide down the edge of my pint glass after every sip. Lots of wheat and booze in the nose but the taste leaned more towards the banana, clove, and bubble gum. The sweetness associated with the latter stuck around for a while, into the aftertaste and coupled with the high amount of carbonation, made for an easy drinking session. There was a decent amount of sediment too which took quite a while to swirl into the liquid.

Of course, this was surprisingly strong but nothing that detracted from the experience of this beer. I do prefer my Weizenbocks on the darker and more fruity side but like anything else from Weihenstephan, this is about as good as it gets for the particular style and a must-try for anyone who likes his or her beer unfiltered.

I love the feel of a Weizen Glass. Poured nice and generous deep into the glass producing a cloud of tight and creamy head. That delicious hazy liquid golden hay color you expect from a wheat beer is revealed.

Typical banana esters and strong yeastiness dominate the nose. A touch of spice, mostly clove. A little bubblegum, too.

This beer's taste follows the nose to a T. Banana and clove and sweetness come pouring through with a lick of that bubblegum and yeast. The tiniest twinge of tart is there, but quickly dissipates.

Mouthfeel is medium, I thought it might have been overpoweringly full, but it balanced nicely on the swallow.

I'm fully impressed by this one. It was delicious and a joy to drink! Be sure to pick this up if you see it.

Been wanting to try this baby for ages. Found a bottle in Yongsan, Seoul.

APPEARANCE: Liveliest head I've ever had on a beer. Can't turn my back for a minute without it spewing out of the bottle.

SMELL: Banana and German yeast.

TASTE: Like the blue labelled Hefeweissbier with an alcoholic kick and more pronounced banana. Mouthfeel is wonderful, as can be expected from a Weihenstephan. Lots of the ethereal German yeastiness in the finish.

OVERALL: I've had a few since my first one and I'm not too crazy about it any more. It's very sound but not brimming with flavour. I think this brewery is a bit overrated on BA.

Bottle kept in fridge. Bottle date code 9481, not sure what it means. Poured into a Weizen Glass.

A- Pours a cloudy, pale yellow color with HUGE 4 finger thick foamy white head that sticks around a long time. Wow, looks great in the glass.

S- Lots of banana and clove on the nose. Yeasty and quite bready.

T- Follows nose well, nice smooth wheat taste, some tropical fruit punch fruitiness flavors. Plenty of sweet malty goodness. And a pleasant not over bearing spice profile.

M- Nice medium body, carbonation is spot on.

O- Weihenstephaner continues to impress.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a massive, puffy white 4-finger head. Great retention, leaving behind a thick, sticky lacing.

Smell - Bubblegum yeast backed by banana and subtle clove notes in the background.

Taste - Predominately soft, sugary, light caramel and ripe banana, backed by subtle notes of clove and bubblegum. Finishes sugary with the slightest touch of heat.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full body. A touch syrupy. The carbonation is soft, almost velvety as it glides down the throat.

Overall - A solid beer, though a bit rich for me to thoroughly enjoy for much more than a beer. Not one I'd session. Good dessert beer, though I'd more likely opt for their Dunkel in it's stead.

Yellow-orange in colour and very cloudy, with a massive crown of pale white foam. Good retention and spotty lace. Big bubblegum and banana aroma also shows doughy, lemony, and clove-like notes. Mildly sweet banana and bubblegum flavours are followed by tangy citrus and spicy clove notes. This really tastes much the same as it smells, and even bigger than it smells. It's like a well-crafted hefeweizen on steroids, and I love it.

Medium-bodied with abundant carbonation, it feels slightly prickly in the mouth. Hefeweizen is one of my favourite styles of beer, possibly even my absolute. This delivers much of what I love about a good weissbier in an amplified fashion. Prost!

500ml bottle into Franziskaner weissbier glass.

A: Pours a lightly cloudy lemon-amber with a couple fingers of bone white head that slowly faded into nothingness.
S: Chalky, doughy, yeast, bready malts, cracked wheat, and a very subtle hint of clove and lemon.
T: I’m getting more citrus and fruit in the mouth than the nose, but for the most part this beer tastes like it smells. Sugary fruits and citrus lead the way with big chalky notes of wheat as well. I get hints of bananas and clovey yeast in the finish, and the aftertaste is sweet and grainy. There’s a light touch of caramel or candied sugar as well.
M: Medium-body, slick and heavy mouthfeel with greasy and soft carbonation. Smooth but heavy.
O: An amazing weizenbock full of fruity and rich flavors. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of wheat beers.
