Appearance: It has a nice cloudy golden/yellow color to it. It has a nice thick white head that dies down very slowly and leaves some spotty lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of wheat, cloves, spices, banana and yeast.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a nice wheat character with a mix of cloves, pepper, banana, yeast and bready notes.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium/high carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with great flavors and aromas.

Tasted side-by-side with Weyerbacher Slam Dunkel and Schneider Weisse Aventinus.

Poured into my Penn Weizen glass. Nice clarity in a golden yellow body, showing effervescence rising. Good three-fingered head at first, reduced to a thick layer and very little lace. 4.0

More hops in this one. Medicinal and brawny. Alcohol peels through, as well. Esters are rather held in check, but include orange marmalade, coriander, limoncello or lemon yogurt, and a smidge of dried banana chips. 3.5

Musty grains, more dried banana, unripe apple, maybe some pear. Big bready notes with some pleasant malt sweetness. Sweet roll and candied apricots and there's even a saltiness. It all wraps up in a really smooth package brew. 4.0

A little syrupy and weak on the carbonation. Not uber-sticky, but it has some gumminess. The feel is a low-spot for Vitus. 3.0

Vitus is still a prime weizenbock. A paler, breadier example of the style. Definitely showcasing the wheat malts. 4.0

Pours hazy gold with a frothy long lasting white head. The aroma is packed with fruity yeast flavors and crisp wheat malts. The taste is sweet yet crisp enough to never even approach cloying. Very light for the ABV. Banana and tropical fruit mingle with lemon and cookie dough and a restrained herbal hoppiness. Extremely vigorous carbonation give this light-bodied brew a champagne feel. The finish is sweet and fruity. Alcohol is impeccably well hidden throughout.

This is a gem of a wiessbier. Complex and full of depth. Impossibly delicious.

Poured into a goblet from the bottle, the weizenbock registered a golden hue. Its aroma was sweet, bearing notes of banana and wheat. A very appealing scent was recorded. The initial taste was the awesome belgian yeast tang that reminds many of bananas. This flavor alone makes this a great beer, but the taste goes further. Also accompanying the yeast was a mild peppery notes that only served to give the beer a delightfully more complex layer. A hint of honey was even detectable. The sweet notes continued to the finish, at which point the peppery notes became slightly more obvious. The mouthfeel was smooth, being easy on the carbonation. While I like the hefeweiss better, this is still an excellent beer in the price range of almost any drinker.

smell- bananas, healthy dose of alcohol on the nose

appearance- as foggy as can be, enormous head

taste- big banana flavor, hint of citrus and pepper, alcohol pulls through nicely

mouthfeel- nice level of carbonation, fairly slick on the tongue

overall- very solid choice, but be wary. a beer at 7.7% that's this drinkable can be dangerous...

A- hazy yellow with a two finger white head.

S- banana, clove, yeast, bread, and pepper.

T- banana, banana, clove, bread, pepper, bread/grain, and sweet malt.

M- medium carbonation with a creamy slick mouthfeel.

O- I really enjoyed this beer. I have never gotten so much banana flavor from a beer before in my life and this beer is just very refreshing overall. Will drink again.

Great beer and abides by being one of the world's greatest beers (still not the best, though it attained some sort of title awhile back).

This is an absolutely awesome beer for the Spring/Summer months and could be a substitute for Leffe or Duvel-types in my opinion. Good Stuff!

Tasted On: 04-15-2012
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 500 ml brown bottle
Glassware: Weizen glass
Purchased: Single from Midtown, Nashville

Pours a cloudy straw color, with lots of bubbles seen streaming from the bottom of my glass. Head is creamy and huge, maybe 6+ fingers high, with excellent lacing and retention.

Aromas consist of bananas and other fruity notes (maybe a little citrus), cloves and other spices, plus earthy yeast and hop smells.

Taste is zesty and fruity, with a mix of spices. The malted wheat gives it sweetness and a lightness of body. Very little in the way of bitterness. Carbonation is high. Finish is zesty and fruity.

Overall a very refreshing weizen beer at bock strength - perfect for the spring and summer warmer temps!

reviewed while waiting for MarkIntihar to post for the final of TMTOBA 4.5

A- Pours just like a hefe. Not sure what makes this a weizenbock. Tons of white fluffy head that leaves a little lacing

S- I could smell this as soon as I cracked the bottle. Very strong scent which is nice. Lots of banana and clove with some pale malts in the background

T- Initial taste is that of a great hefe, lots of fruity banana and some clove nots. Odd metalic taste in the back end along with a little alcohol

M- Pretty smooth with a touch of carbonation on the end

O- I saw this recently won "Best Beer in The World" or something to that effect. Not even close but still quite solid for what it is.

Wish me luck!!

Bottle poured into a pint glass. This is a cloudy golden color with very foamy head. Smells include banana, cloves, cream, and brown sugar. Taste is mostly sweet mixed with a nice blend of spices. Alcohol is hidden very well. Mouthfeel is very thick and creamy with lots of carbonation.
