12 oz. bottle into spaten becker.
A - a bright and clear medium straw colour. big frothy white head, good retention. bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass. chunky lacing. doesnt really look like a festbier, more like a hellesbier. still looks good to me, though.
S - very rich malt character, quite full and developed. the top notes are of this big, malty malt scent, very pure, and some yeast, adding a bready smell. the middle notes are hoppy, slightly piney, and maybe a bit of herbal spice, not too bitter though. the back nose is more of the hops, but a more delicate side, almost grassy and floral.
T - Thats a great tasting beer, but I'm not sure it is a great festbier. the profile of the beer is quite dynamic, noticeably changing in each stage of drinking even without any analysis, or care taken to savor the brew. the initial taste is from the malts, exerting an almost woody flavour, slightly sweet; maybe this rusticity i am identifying is the yeast, but the beer looks way too clear to have the yeast be any major part of the brew. hops are also in the initial, adding a slightly spicy vegetative aspect. the hops really combat the sweetness of the malts very well, and the beer only comes out as tasting slightly bitter. the finish is slightly dry and quite bitter from the hops; the malt completely breaks down and the hops are able to totally dominate the finish, spicy grassy hoppy goodness. the aftertaste is much like the initial, with the hops serving to keep tabs on the sweet malts. so it comes out as only being slightly bitter, but with a noticeable backing of sweetness at time.
MF&D - a well carbonated brew, with a light medium body. the carbonation makes the beer quite filling, but the mouthfeel is very smooth and lends itself to more and more drinking. very palatable, and easily enjoyed on the hottest of summer days, or in Maßkrüge at the fest.
