Aw heck, I knew I shouldn't have read BuckeyeNation's review first. You know, I was all ready to put my stamp on this thing but I made the mistake of glancing at his take first and I utterly agree with it.
Bottom line: I wouldn't call this a Marzen; it may be brewed for the season but that's 'bout it... no caramel, nutty, rich malt here - this is just a hoppy German lager that is a little maltier, a little heavier and simply gorgeous to behold.
Absolutely anything Weihenstephaner makes is worth drinking, and Festbier is no exception, but I can't claim to have enjoyed it near as much as the rest of their lineup. Simply "good" from a brewery that makes astounding beers.
Still recommended, I could drink a bunch of these little guys in short order.
