A: clear pale gold and a couple of fingers of ivory head; sparse lace left behind

S: grassy, grainy, flowery fields; some bread and yeast...

T: crisp and clean drinking pale grains; hints at grasses and hay; something citric, maybe lemony; something herbal and rustic, too

M: lean and tight, crisp and clean-drinking, moderate bitterness, smooth and light-bodied

O: what I presume to be exemplary of the style, rounded off by my lack of familiarity thereof, presents as an easy-drinkin' beer, session-able and light, with a stable of core flavor elements

I picked up a bottle of Weihenstephaner Original last week for $3.29 at The Lager Mill. I was in the mood for a good German Lager and since I've never had this one before I thought I should give it a shot, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date. Poured from a brown 500ml bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks ok, it's very typical for this brewery, but it isn't that eye catching. It poured a clear pale yellow color that took on more of a golden color when held to the light and it had two fingers worth of fluffy white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some patchy lacing behind. This beer looked nice and true to style.

S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the malts being the first to show up and they impart a pale malt, grainy, white bread and light bread crust like aromas. Up next comes a clean lager yeast aroma followed by some grassy hops aromas. This beer had a nice aroma that was true to style.

T- The taste seems to be very similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the malts still being the first to show up and they impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma with no single aspect seeming to stick out the most. Up next comes some of that clean lager yeast followed by some grassy and very light flavor hops flavors. On the finish there's no bitterness with just a touch of sweetness taking it's place and it had a nice malty, grassy and slightly floral hop like aftertaste. This was a good tasting beer that had just what I expect from the style.

M- Smooth, clean, crisp, slightly prickly, on the thicker side of being light bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel was good and it worked well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a good beer and good example of the style, it had everything that I look for in a German made Lager and there wasn't any aspects that felt out of place. This beer had good drinkability, it was smooth, clean, crisp, slightly prickly, not filling at all and the taste did a nice job of holding my attention, I could drink more than a few of these without getting tired of it. What I like the most about this beer was how true to style it was, it had everything that I expect from a good German made Lager. What I like the least about this beer is nothing, there isn't anything that I disliked or would change, it's good just the way it is. I would buy this beer again when in the mood for the style and I would recommend it to anybody that enjoys a good Lager. All in all I was happy with this beer,it was just a well crafted lager and I enjoyed it. This is up there as one of the better beers I've had from this brewery and I think it's now my favorite German made Lager. Good job guys, this was one good Lager, Keep up the hard work.
