I am not much of a lager drinker but this beer was part of the beer list that I'm working on at my local pub, I was pleasantly surprised!

A- crystal clear light straw color with a small white head, not the typical carbonation bubbles running crazy like many lagers.

S- sweet grains, straw, grass, earthy, with a bit of lemon. Very clean.

T- light clean hop bitterness balances perfectly with with sweet malts. Nothing overpowers here.

M- velvety light-medium body with a great carbonation level. Most lagers tend to be over-carbonated for me, this one makes it very drinkable.

O- I was very surprised with this brew. Lagers aren't normally my cup of tea but this would be an excellent introduction to a newbie drinker. So much better than the main stream lagers out there. It actually has taste, and is well balanced. And at just over 5%, it's also a great session beer.

I poured 2 11.2 oz bottles into a Seidel which produced a white foamy head.

Smelled of grains, rice, and light spice, herbaceous.

Tasted much like it smelled, with grains and herbaceous qualities. Citrus and lemongrass.

The beauty to this beer is how it is perfectly balanced. When I think of "beer" this is probably the quintessential example of lager. Forget Bud, MGD, or the others; this is a reasonable price and great beer for the same occasions.

While I am always trying new and different crafts, this is one to stay in the fridge all the time.

Being less of a lager-person and sticking more to good dark ales, I was a bit weary of Weihenstephaner's Original, but as their flagship brew I knew it was a necessary drink!

A: Pour was a nice golden with minimal head allowing a nice amount of light to permeate, adhering to the style very well.

S: Aroma had a very nice yeasty maltiness with a slight citrus flavor and the great flowery hop character apparent in all good lagers.

T: Very light and refreshing, with a nice hop bitterness that balanced well with the nice malty character again adhering to the style perfectly.

M: Very nice carbonation giving it the very light refreshing character that aids the flavors while still coating nicely allowing one to fully embrace the flavor.

I didn't particularly care for this brew, simply because I have grown away from many lagers, but if I ever want an excellent German lager you can be sure I'll pick up some more!

16.9 oz. brown bottle. Freshness date on label. Served in a tall spiraled Weihenstephaner glass.
It pours a bright pale golden color with a foamy 2” snow-white head. Webby and trailing lacing cling ½ way down the glass.
A fresh lightly roasted grainy aroma dominates. Fresh cut hay comes to mind. A spicy and floral hop nose inch forward, as does a slight fruity smell.
Tastes of sweet Farina and a mildly metallic tang are upfront. A spicy hop bitterness slowly merges. A minor, but noticeable mineral taste remains in the background throughout. A mild alcoholic fuminess is perceived late in the breath.
The body is a bit more full and rounded than it looks. Once the carbonation subsides, it invites huge thirst-quenching gulps. Nice Beer! Very nice!

Clear golden-straw colored body with one fingers worth of white head that dissipates quickly into a thin covering over the top of the beer. A bit of lacing follows the beer down the glass. Steady streams of carbonation rise from the bottom.

Grassy smell first, classic, bready lager smell. More lemon in the taste, a little hops - this is one very refreshing beer. Really a perfect level of carbonation makes this crisp and a delight on the tongue.

Compliments the spicy BBQ and slaw I've been enjoying; mothfeel enhances the spices from the sauce nicely. It's been a minute since I've had a nice lager, but I'd call it a pale lager paradigm.

Poured from large bottle into pint glass.

A: Light gold with lots of active carbonation creating a bubbly 1 finger white head.

S: Sweet grain, barley, some citrus and caramel sweetness. Hops come slightly through the nose.

T: Clean and crisp. Sweet grain/malt, citrus. A very easy and crisp taste that is hard to distinguish.

M: Light and crisp body. Good sweet and drying aftertaste.

O: Super easy drinking and a great example of a helles.

Pours brilliantly clear pale gold with a creamy, foamy 1-finger white head. The head dissipates quickly, but is easily revived with a swirl.

Fresh grain aroma dominates (pilsner malt) with a background of spicy noble hops. Some light floral notes from the hops. No esters or diacetyl.

Initially tastes sweet and grainy, plus a slight spicy noble hop bitterness, but the bitterness quickly fades. No esters or diacetyl. A slight tartness in the finish balances the malt nicely. Slight mineral taste is present as well.

Medium light body. Medium foamy pleasant carbonation. Slight carbonation bite in the finish. Finishes fairly dry, without much bitterness.

This is a simple straightforward enjoyable lawnmower beer with good malt flavor. Very drinkable. Classic helles example. I really enjoyed this beer and would have it again.

After trying the hefeweizen of this old namesake, I decided that the original premium lager would be worth a shot.

What is really different about this beer to me is the white wine/ champagne notes I get from the aroma of this beer. It fits well with the lighter color of the beer as well.

It has a medium bodied, refreshingly clean taste. The beer is evenly balanced with a gentle burnt corn and hop finish. I don't get a lot of depth in this, just a real smooth, highly drinkable lager that I thoroughly enjoyed trying. This is one of the better helles lagers I've had.

500ml bottle into my mad Fox glass. Bright golden yellow color with a large, pillowy white head filling the top two inches of the glass. Nice head retention and lacing on the glass as I drank it.

The aroma has a nice balance of crisp, sweet, grainy, pale malts and a herbal, grassy, hoppiness. I get some crisp, slightly tart fruitiness to it as well. Very nice for the style.

The taste shows a little more of the sweet, pale, grainy malts to it up front. In the finish I start to get a little more of the herbal hoppiness coming out to add some balancing bitterness. Some of the crisp, tart, fruit like flavors are there in the finish as well.

The mouthfeel is light with carbonation being moderate. Overall it was a very good beer of the style. Nicely flavored and well balanced.
