Our golden-yellow wheat beer, with its fine-poured white foam, smells of cloves and impresses consumers with its refreshing banana flavour. It is full bodied and with a smooth yeast taste. To be enjoyed at any time, goes excellently with fish and seafood, with spicy cheese and especially with the traditional Bavarian veal sausage. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

a: Pours a clear yellowish gold with a large white head, no lacing.

s: The smell is sweet banana bread and a touch of clove.

t: Banana is noticeable, but not as strong as it was in the nose. Wheat and lemon balance out this hefe. The taste is a good balance and makes for an easy drinking, very refreshing beer that's perfect for summer.

m: Good carbonation, smooth, and light.

d: This is not my favorite beer and I am not a huge fan of Hefeweizens, but for me this is THE hefeweizen by which all others are judged. The perfect example of the style.

Look: This thing is a deep hazy golden color. Thin creamy, head on top. You can see a healthy amount of carbonation floating up through the body. Really has that wheat beer look and appears excellent. Outstanding lacing as well.
Smell: Smells heavenly. Sweet almost citrusy scent. You can still smell some bread coming through. Gosh, it smells rather amazing. I can see where they get the banana note from as well.
Taste: Wow, you really do get that banana note up front. Very delicious, you get the slight bready taste in the middle with a slight clove end note. Slightly metallic as well, but very pleasant. This stuff goes down easily. Insanely drinkable. I could see myself downing many of these.
Feel: Sticks around pleasantly in the mouth. It is not the best in terms of mouthfeel I have ever had, but still rather great. I think it has a great balance going on. It is very nice.
Overall: An excellent beer. I would definitely purchase this again in a heartbeat. It is truly a pleasure to drink this beer.

Off to Deutschland! What can we say about this one, right? It comes from the oldest brewery in the entire world, so we know they know what they're doing as far as brewing fantastic beer goes. They are the masters of the universe when it comes to brewing world class brew, and this one is one of their best as far as I'm concerned. I've been drinking this one for many decades. It is the staple of the style, period. So how does it look, smell and taste? With a moderately aggressive pour into a genuine Weihenstephaner weissbier glass at roughly 50 degrees F, wow. Wow! What a head on this one, and what a lovely, hazy golden color this has to it. That carbonation is something special to watch. The 3-4 finger white foamy head settles very creamy like in the center. It looks absolutely delicious sitting in the glass. Sticking the nose into it, I get all of those typical German wheat ale scents: Banana, cloves, spiciness, bubble gum sweetness, wheaty like fresh-baked bread or maybe grandma's homemade soda biscuits. Everything a real beer should be like, right? Beautiful stuff. But how does it taste? Oh my. What balance. Take all of the scents mentioned, and balance them all out equally...that is what this tastes like upfront on the palate. The mouthfeel is somewhat smooth, and creamy. Highly carbonated so that carbonation drives the creaminess and those balanced flavors 110 MPH into your mouth. Absolutely fantastic! So very drinkable and full-bodied. On the backend I get a mild bitterness that fully compliments the overall impression of this fantastic wheat ale. I don't want to stop drinking it! Absolutely beautiful. Go get some right now!

This wheat beer is superior to all others that I know of in this category. Tailing behind it is Franziskaner Weissbier and Paulaner Hefeweizen. It's hard to find a bad wheat beer that was brewed in Germany. They truly have mastered their recipes. I'm giving this beer 5 stars.

Smells of cloves, straw, yeast. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a nice dense head. Tastes clean and crisp, slightly dry, tingly carbonation on the tip of the tongue. Mild alcohol, spice, very drinkable.

A great hefe!

The standard that all hefewiezens will be judged against, available/common in the United States.
Had a 11.2 fl oz bottle, poured in a fluted pint glass, purchased at Mac's Beer and Wine Atlanta.
Appearance: Bright white head with some lacing, light golden brown (amber?)
Nose: light banana, bready, very light citrus
Tasting Notes: Bready, mild yeast, light banana
Mouthfeel: crisp, light. (do people say session-able?)
Overall: This may become my weekly purchase, which is dangerous (as it may ruin other beers). Perhaps this what I think beer should be in it simplest form.
