found on tap @ the peculiar pub right by NYU (bleeker st), I was in the area for work and popped on in for a pint, this place just brings back memories of the ole college days... this is not a style I go for too often but with hot college chicks abounding and nicer weather.. what the hell...

frothy white pillowy head, cloudy pale straw haze but completely consistent in the entire glass (the bartender asked me about adding a lemon, I declined to taste this pure, kudos for at least asking!), the lacing and cling are absolutely superb, even hiding in the haze you can see the carbonation feeding the head and keeping it constant - absolutely flawless looking, I tried to find something wrong with this beer, and kept looking at it from different angles, but no, this thing was a goddamn beer postcard sent from beer paradise.

had a strange toasty smell (not off putting), there are hints of lemon floating and enticing you in the background, there is a subtle spiciness to it with mild fruit notes like bannana... I loved sniffing this thing even if it wasn't crazy complex or fascinating, it smelled great and the smell was strong, you didn't have to work to get at the tones here, there is also some grain prescence, I was impressed.

taste etc.
somewhat full in the mouth, the carbonation rolls around carrying this lovely libation all around your mouth in a surreal fashion. you can literally roll this around on your tongue back and forth to enjoy the sensation of silk/velvet liquid... amazing and flawless in that department. the wheat coats and sticks in the mouth furnishing the strongest aftertaste I think I have come across for a hefe. there are tones of toffee and noogat (you know, that unidentified crap in candy bars), as I rolled it in my mouth I just couldn't get over the complexity of this little heffer, the carbonation even has a little prickly bite to it, very small, which just accents the experience that much more. it is almost lip smacking refreshing but yet has nutty and toasty tones that really grab the attention of your pallette, it is in a sense dry and yet refreshing.. and complex.

I had to run out and grab a bottle of this on the way home.. and the bottle does not do this justice. still great out of a bottle but the mouthfeel is no where near the experience I had this afternoon. This was the best $5 I spent in a long time... this one was nearly flawless, I wish half the hefes I huff where as bad ass as this monster brew, outstanding.

Top of the line when it comes to German wheat beers. A beautiful golden color and thick white head brings a fabulous aroma of wheat and banana. A very light body makes for a great drink at any time of the year. If you haven't experienced this beer, go out and find it as soon as you can.

A-The body is the haziest of orange, capped off by mountains of off-white head. Infinite finger thick is the head. It keeps building and growing and spilling out of your glass. Once the head finally falls you can start to see the cascading lace. The lace doesn't cling nor does it fall fast, it streams down in a relaxing fashion. So cloudy is the body and yet it shines like sun-bright egg yolks when held to light. Magic.

S-Banana. Clove. Cinnamon. Bubblegum. Candy sweet. Wheat. Dark bread. Take a hunk of banana bread and sniff it. Now sniff this beer. No difference. The beer will probably smell even better with a smorgasbord of scents on display.

T-Banana. Banana bread. Walnuts, almonds, buttery sweet nuts. Sweet wheat. Honey. Flashes of lemon & orange, very minimal. World class taste.

M-A watery yet still medium body is soft and refreshing. Medium carbonation is aided by beautiful spicy dry clove notes to where you become unsure which is tingling your tongue more: carbonation or spiced yeast? The sip starts, continues and ends in a harmonious fashion: Sweet, bready, lemony tart, mildly-to-heavily spiced and drying. The after-feel is super yeasty and peppery. Your taste-buds stand on end. Like all good things, it just "feels right".

O-The best Hefeweizen. A beer in which I can think of no area to improve in. In fact, stop reading as I'll stop reviewing and lets drink us some Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier.

Weihenstephaner hefe weissbier 6pk bottles $9.99(OH)

11.2 oz/330 ml brown bottle poured into a 17 oz white wine glass. No freshness date.

Pours a Nice hazy yellow/orange color. with a two and a half finger bright white head that lingers for a while. gives way to nice soap bubble like lacing all over the bulb of my glass.

The aroma is Strong, spicy banana's, subtle malts, and a nice wheat yeast smell. Very Inviting. There's something about a good Hefe that grows on me everyday. This smells great!

Taste follows the nose. A spicy banana, cloves, subtle malts, a perfect wheat yeast taste.

mouth feel is great. A creamy spicy banana lingers for a long time. Great carbonation. This is a great Hefe, and all others strive to be like this.

Overall, buy it or try it. You will love it. Best Hefe to date. I have had this brew many times and will buy it till I cant buy it no more. The more you try the hefe style it will grow on you. I did not like it at first. But it has a way of calling your name.

On tap at the House of Brews. Served in a Weihenstephan weizen glass.

Appearance - Hazy pale orange. More yellow. Nice white pillowy head. Never settlea fully. Some lacing.

Smell - Phenolic. A little bit of bubble gum. Banana and wheaty grain. Estery.

Taste - Grain right up front. Minimal sweetness, but it's there. Bubble gum phenols. Dry finish. Floral esters and banana on the finish.

Mouthfeel - Grainy, but smooth from a medium body. Drinks easily and finishes dry.

Overall - Not my style, but this drinks nicely. A great go-to beer that can be found everywhere.
