I hadn't had this beer in awhile, tried it on tap at Prost! and was floored, so bought several bottles at Whole Foods. This is even BETTER from bottle. No joke!
Tasted in lineup next to Franziskaner. This proved the superior beer in every way (though only slightly better in each category). So I apologize about including some comparisons, but I find that is a really good way to truly appreciate the quality and differences of two of the best German hefeweizens.
Poured with that supremely impressive huge head fading to a pretty good lace. Medium straw hue with lighter highlights, lighter than Franziskaner, more head, less sticky lace.
Intensely aromatic, stunning really. Lots of banana and clove, a myriad of baking spice, fresh hay, a grainy wheat note, oodles of citrus, mostly meyer lemon and orange peel, some hints of white flowers.
Palate explodes with flavor, this is where this beer really shines compared to tasting from tap a couple of weeks ago. The bottled version seems to have a purity of flavor and crisp, fresh notes. Really nice banana, clove, nutmeg with a grassy note, some really enjoyable cereal/grain notes, and a really delicate backing of lemon zest/ lemon grass. Superb. Lots going on.
Very good body and texture, decent grip, finish is medium long and alcohol is in check. Fine carbonation. Nearly perfect balance.
Overall this is a stunning beer which comes as close to perfection as one could hope for in a hefeweizen. So note my superbly high marks and realize that I am comparing this to every other hefeweizen that I have ever tried and that this beats up on. Others come close, but I haven't tasted one that is superior to this.

appearance- golden yellow with an extremely slight amber hue in the middle. Foamy, two finger head produced.
aroma- sweet notes of wheat, orange/banana
Taste- Very similar to nose and par for the course with the expected hefe flavors. Where this is unique is that there is a slight vanilla flavor that melds perfectly with the creamy texture of the beer.
Feel- As stated before this has a great creamy texture, while being clean and incredibly drinkable.
Overall- Great beer and certainly one of, if not, the best Hefe's I've tried so far. The vanilla creaminess aspect definitely separates this from the pack.
