A: Golden, reddish yellow. Slightly cloudy, with a nice off-white head that leaves good lacing. Moderate carbonation.
S: After smelling this beer, I immediately had to have a drink - writing these sentences is broken by the smell wafting up and forcing me to drink more and more. Good stuff - bananas, weizen yeast, cloves, and a slight bubblegum-y scent. It is a rare day when the nose on a beer makes me this excited.
T: Not quite as awesome as the nose, but still fantastic. This is everything I expect from a good weizen - good yeast character, with a well-developed version of the characteristic banana taste. The clove character is also very present, and I can pick up a faint hint of that aforementioned bubblegum taste. These all blend well with the wheat flavor to make a beer that is very well-balanced.
M: Very chill, lots of nice carbonation keeps things light. Slightly creamy, but not clinging. Refreshing.
D: If I had a case of these, it would be a very, VERY dangerous evening.
Weihenstephaner just earned itself a very special place in my heart. I am thoroughly impressed, and that's something coming from someone who has consumed a truly ludicrous amount of weizenbier over the last 4 months in Germany.
