I poured this hefe from a tall, brown, 16.9fl oz bottle bearing the brewery's hook: Oldest Brewery in the World - brewing since 1040!

A= This wheat beer poured a dark gold to orange color, unfiltered and hazy. The head was out of control, easily 3-4 inches, white and chunky, with a moderate pour in a hefeweizen glass. Lacing was thick and impressive as well.

S= Beautiful malty goodness. Sweetness with fruity aromas of bubblegum, bananas, and yeast.

T= Obvious forward notes of wheat, fruity yeast, and a hint of citrus. Some cloves, but not over the top. Not much in the way of hop taste here. Very slightly sour and dry at the very end.

MF= This one sports a medium body that is lifted significantly by the high carbonation. Feels crisp and clean for the style.

D= Hefe's are not my favorite, but this is the best I have ever had. This beer is in balance, the wheat and yeast play nicely together and there is not toto much of the banana/clove flavor that everyone wants to pump their wheat beers full of. An excellent world class beer!

look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Aroma: Lots of clove. Fruity esters, lots of banana, orange and pear. Grainy wheat. No hops.

Appearance: Yellow with orange highlights. Looks like a pineapple-orange juice. Moderately cloudy, but I see through the other side. Inspection with a bright light doesn't produce and visible particles, just lots of large bubbles calmly rising to the top. Moderate white head with yellow highlights. Good retention.

Taste: Glorious flavor. Grainy wheat followed by savory banana and mild orange citrus. Spicy clove and some black pepper phenols. Very little yeast. Some mild floral alcohol. Some mild residual white sugar. Some pine shows up associated with the hops and yeast at the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. Mild carbonation which is both creamy and stinging. Oily overall and finishes and bit dry.

Overall: Impressively savory and pleasant. Surprisingly bold considering the style and ABV. The best I've had.
