Appearance - Pours a hazy, dark golden yellow with a think, frothy 3-finger white head. The head dissipates slowly, leaving behind a fine, consistent lace.

Smell - Beautiful rip banana, augmented by fair amount of clove notes. The aroma is intoxicating.

Taste - Begins with a prominent clove spice which lasts to the finish. Notes of banana, wheat and a bit of bubblegum-like yeast. Flavors do well to separate, each hitting their stride at different times. Finishes with the aforementioned clove, fading well into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - This has a light body, bit just a touch watery on the back end. Decently carbonated, leading to a crisp, sharp bite.

Overall - Oh goodness. This is one hell of a hefeweizen. I feel sorry for the people who get Widmer Hef and think that's the end all, be all of wheat beers. This is a world-class hef, and a benchmark for the style.

Bottle poured into a Weizen Glass.
Bottle kept in fridge.

A- Pours a hazy golden yellow color, with lots of foamy white head that has some staying power. Lots of thick lacing staying on the glass while drinking. Lots of carbonation action going on. Tons of small bubbles rising to the top.

S- Yeast, some banana in the back. Very "spicy" aroma. Not Hot spicy, but like kitchen spices. Wheat is also present.

T- Strong German Flavor. Strong yeast, with the banana/clove taste. You can really taste the kitchen spices after swallowing. Complex but enjoyable.

M- Some what thick. It is thicker than I expected. I can describe it maybe as "creamy". Carbonation is not overwhelming. Feels full bodied, but on the low end of full.

O- Nice offering. I was drawn to this by their advertising as "The Worlds Oldest Brewery". Glad I picked some up, it was nice to try something out of my comfort zone. I was pleasantly surprised.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a (edited) wheat glass.

The beer produces a cloudy golden body with a brilliant white head of 2-2.5 fingers. Lots of visible carb going on.

The first whiff brought forth huge banana notes with the spicy clove and wheat right behind.

The spice flavor mixed with the tingling carbonation is so goood. Banana, bread, and a light citrus flavor round out the flavor profile along with a touch of sweetness.

This thing is smooth with medium carbonation and a medium body.

I am looking forward to more of these Bad Boys as Spring springs.

Poured into 20oz mug. Excellent smell of a true German Hefe. Look golden color with a nice look to its body. Taste, authentic German taste to it. Only prefer german hefes, true taste. This hefe is high quality and can be find easily in my neck of the woods, pdx area. Try this hefe & look to compare others to it...

This beer is pure magic, making me ashamed that it took me so long to try it.

Poured into a pint glass, the beer gave a lemon aroma. I was expecting a sweeter aroma for a hefeweiss, so a tart aroma was somewhat of a surprise. For a hefeweiss, it radiated the expected golden staw color while producing the expected white head. The initial taste makes very apparent an appealing banana yeast flavor. It is sweet, but not overpoweringly sweet. The carbonation could be described as sharp, perhaps even aggressive. It brought to mind the bubbles of champagne. The bubbles nicely sweet away the initial taste to reveal the next level. The aftertaste brought a mild honey flavor with a hint of the spiciness of pepper.

This is one highly regarded beer that is easily available to most people. The price of a bottle makes it look even better compared to a lot of beers.
