Pours a nice translucent honey that borders more on orange than gold. The bright-white head is immense and deliciously foamy. Great yeasty/wheat-driven aroma, with strong notes of clove and banana. The taste is medium-bodied and slightly sweet, with a minimal hop presence. A bit of tart fruitiness from the yeast complements the wheat very well. Carbonation is absolutely perfect and is helped by the excellent head retention.

I picked this up the other day after checking the top German beers list (and to encourage the warm weather to come a little faster!) I have to say I wasn't disappointed at all, though my wheat beer palate probably isn't as refined as it could be. Overall very refreshing and extremely drinkable. Gimme a liter of this on a hot summer day and I'll be a happy man!

Wow, what a great beer.

A: cloudy yellow in color, huge fluffy head, and its still there as I drinking it and typing this.

S: some banana, cloves, but not overpowering

T: the taste is great, so smooth, tingles the tongue, all the flavors of clove, banana and pepper just blend so well, not one of them dominates the other.

M: medium body, lots of bubbles.

O: this is a great beer, cheap, easy to find, probably the top beer of its style, I will be buying this one quite often.

Pours an opaque golden with an incredible white head. Huge, billowing head and a thick lace coats the glass.

Intense spicy wheat aroma. Pepper and cloves with a citrus edge.

Very creamy with a crisp taste. Light and sweet. Not as spicy as the aroma indicates but still a nice pepper kick to offset the wheat sweetness. Lemon/orange tang. Needs saying again, this is very creamy with a light carbonation tang. Evaporates in the mouth, as if the beer converts to head as you drink.

Always a tricky pour. Virtually pours itself such is the heady intensity. Deep hazy yellow in colour this is quite fizzy and rather spicy on the tongue. Reminiscent of Duvel on the nose. Leaves small dollops all ovef the glass as it goes down.
Taste dilutes as it hits the middle palate and though a fine drink this lacks some omph to me and could do with some more depth.Nice enough but I'm with Michael Jackson on this one.

A: it's not too often i open a bottle and a head appears, but yeah that just happened. huge mousse-like white head. hazy, lazy straw. beautiful haze. exactly what i expect from this style.

S: fruit salad. banana, orange slices, melon, apple. a hint of clove. peppery, almost cinnamon-like.

T: lemon, banana. more on the clove side than the banana in my opinion. baked bread. very smooth and rounds itself over the palate. very desirable peppery component.

M: slightly sticky on the gums and tongue. feels a little more fluffy than effervescent. significantly dry finish. light to medium body.

D: i can definitely see why this is THE example for this style of beer. it's nice to see a top example that is so easy to find.

16.9 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance-Medium yellow in color, with a slight cast of haze. Tall, creamy white head with fine bead, good retention, and nice lacing.

Aroma-Bready wheat, strong clove phenolics, and moderate ripe banana esters, for an overall spiced banana bread aroma.

Flavor-Follows aroma, with spicy cloves first, followed by bananas and wheaty bread. Slight toasty/smoky note in the finish.

Mouthfeel-Medium light body, spritzy high carbonation, light carbonic prickle. Effervescent. Awesome.

Superbly drinkable, superbly delicious, all around a phenomenal beer. This is the quintessential hefeweizen. Can't say enough good things about it.

Appearance - Cloudy orange 2 finger head.

Smell - wheat with some spices and hops.

Taste - Wheat and spice up front with banana and spices in the back and finish.

Mouthfeel - Smooth with lots of carbonation finish is crisp and clean.

Overall - Great hefeweizen but still not mind blowing maybe I'm not a wheat beer kind of guy but I still would stock my fridge with this for the summer.

Pours a hazy orange straw color with a large white head. A very nice looking wheat beer. Scent is spicy with great clove and banana aromas. Amazing scents of wheat and pepper. Taste is just as great as it smells. All the flavors of wheat, pepper, clove, banana, and just a hint of citrus are all mixed together for an awesome, complex taste. Mouthfeel is creamy and refreshing. Drinkability is very high. Hefs are not even close to being my favorite beer style, but this is a very tasty beer, and the best example of the style by far.

Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier glass.

A: Poured with a massive head, but that was probably my fault. Eventually dissipated. Color is hazy gold.

S: Smells very spicy with a hint of hops and wheat. Smell might be a bit too spicy however for my nose.

T: Taste is great. Perfect balance with right amount of crisp wheat and hops and a little spice and yeast. Very refreshing.

M: Mild carbonation, feels almost as good as it tastes.

D: Perfect drinkability. One of the crispest and smoothest beers I have ever had, and one of the reasons this is a must have.

Finally I get to one of my favourite styles: the classic wheat beer oder weissbier im Deutsch. What better a wheat beer to review than from Weihenstephaner, the worlds oldest brewery still running.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a 500ml Stein glass.

A: The brew fizzes a little as I pour it into the glass, the solid white head settles to 1cm. The body is a classic cloudy orange and without the head you would almost mistake it for a glass of mango juice.

S: This is where wheat beers really excel for me; the aroma is a fantastic bouquet of banana and clove spice. It has a hint of bubble gum and if I must be honest this aroma would make a fantastic cologne (take note Calvin Klein).

T: Creamy, slightly banana taste. Distinctive malt is the main character in this brew and if you like your hops too bad - they've left the building. There is a mustiness mixed in that could only in my mind be the yeast, it's slightly distracting but not a deal breaker. The cloves also add a tip of the tongue tingle and give the sweetness some added complexity.

M: Again 'creamy' is the word of the day with this fine beer. It's not stoutland creamy but it is nonetheless quite substantial. The carbonation is fantastically well suited to the style.

D: In a word 'extremely'... that is if you like your wheat beers. Some people can't abide by them and all I can say is "Your loss". To me this is probably my 3rd favourite style of beer and this particular brew is quite exceptional, although I think Schneider Aventinus is a better beer and will do up a review on that soon... hopefully.

Food match: German fare; big sausages while wearing even bigger leather pants. Fried potato with shredded ham (schinken), and sauerkraut... mmm.

Drank from a hefeweizen glass.

A - Golden yellow, maybe slightly orange. Towering head foamy head, around 2 inches tall. Dissipates to about half a finger thick. Thin lacing. Visible carbonation around the edge.

S - Banana wheat. Very sweet smelling.

T - Sweet banana taste. Wheaty. Some slight citrus tastes.

M - Light to medium light body. Strong carbonation.

D - Fantastic. This is my new favorite beer. I could drink one of these any time! I am going to keep a six pack in my fridge at all times.

Poured the beer into a glass. A decent amount of head and the smell was sweet and rich with the smell you expect from an amazing beer. It has a milky light amber look to it. Beer is sweet, smooth, and just down right good. What you would expect from the world's oldest brewery. Cheers.

Pours a cloudy pale-yellow color. Grows a huge, white colored head, a thick, rocky flat of cream that hangs on through the entire glass, layering the glass with rows of bubbles with each sip.

The aroma is, clean and grainy. A nice amount of yeasty esters, giving up some nice banana character, with a hint of underlying clove. The malt character is very nice and bread-like which when combined with the esters is really quite mouth-watering.

This beer tastes exactly like it smells, and feels rich and creamy. The yeast profile shows up first, giving a nice, light fruity character to the beer, with banana predominating. There is a mild clove flavor, mostly towards the finish. The beer has a nice grainy, bread-like flavor throughout complimenting the other flavors admirably.

Absolutely delicious. So creamy and smooth, with amazing flavors that drop off the palate quickly, though ultimately leaving a light banana bread flavor. Top in it's a class, and a worthy hefeweizen in which to judge all others hefes.

A- Dark golden color; the head retention is very big and very white. Good head retention and lacing and very good carbonation.

S- This is the standard that all hefeweizens should be judged against. Notes of banana, wheat malt along with clove and citrus spring up from the glass. Banana is the overall smell but it's very pleasant.

T- Very outstanding taste profile. The beer is rich, refreshing, and very balanced. Just a great all around hefeweizen with great flavor notes of banana with an undertone of clove with a nice dry finish. Definitely deserving of the top 100.

M- Medium bodied beer. Had a nice balance between crisp and slightly creamy. Carbonation is perfect for this style.

D- Very high. I could easily drink six bottles of this especially on a nice warm day.

Overall- I love this beer overall. It's fairly solid in every aspect and THE classic example of a hefeweizen style.

Pours a pale gold, a bit cloudy, head is fluffy and bright white, merengue-like. Lots of lacing. This is an unobtrusive tasting Hefeweizen, mild wheat and mildly fruit (banana) and mildly peppery. This is really drinkable, even for Hefe's. This is one of my favorites. Great job!

This beer was purchased as a single from World Market in Richmond, VA - poured into a pint glass

Wow. Popped the cap on this (with no agitation mind you) and a mushroom of foam forms around the mouth of the bottle (with no spillage). Pours effin BEAUTIFUL with a massive creamy head. Wheat and honey colored highlights and the head.. man the head.. whipped topping

Smells incredible, I spent a lot of time with my nose in this one. Mostly spice, crackers and minimal banana. Amazingly complex on the nose

Taste was everything I expected it to be judging from the reviews. Big wheaty, spicy brew. Mouthfeel is the star here. It feels absolutely smooth with no ethanol pinch at all

Seek it out - drink it

Hazy orange body with billowy white head. Very appropriate to style.

Smell is a spicy peppery clove smell up front with a hint of lemon zest hiding behind there. It smells thin like an old European beer always does to me. It's probably the US import weight though. It's almost perfumey.

The taste is very bready at first and then it follows behind the scent very similarly. It is mostly the spice that comes through on the taste with very little citrus to me. It definitely doesn't have the banana flavor I was expecting.

Mouthfeel is good. Very lifting and spritzy.

Completely drinkable. Would be great at a barbecue or on the back porch.

Served on draught into a .3L beer-specific glass in Berlin. Reviewed from notes.

A: Hazy blonde colour; lovely cream in a 1.5 finger head of very nice retention.

Sm: Wheat, barley, but an absence of hops. Very fresh and fizzy.

T: Wheat-ish open to wheat body with crystal hops with an off-cream finish. Well built for the style, but a but unbalanced in that it's biased towards mainly the body, to the detriment of the other two acts. Not an Aristotelian beer, if you will. (You won't).

Mf: Lovely. It's ideally coarse for a Hefeweizen, and balances wetness and dryness quite well, though it's a bit too wet.

Dr: For the price, it's certainly worth a purchase by Berlin standards. For fans of the style, it's a must-try.

[Best served in a Weizen glass]

Poured a murky yellow with a large rocky white head that was fully lasting and had excellent lacing. The aroma was loaded with a doughy yeast , bread malts, light citrus hops with notes of banana and cloves. It tasted mildly bitter-sweet to start and developed into a light, sweet yeasty flavor with notes of citrus, banana and some spices with the flavor lasting for quite a while, thus enhancing the experience. Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a soft carbonation.. Overall an outstanding Hefeweizen.

S: sweet wheat and light biscuit malt. A tad yeasty and a little bit of honey.

T: biscuity malt and wonderful wheat start the taste. Some bitter lemon hops. A tad spicy.

MF: tangy, crisp, refreshing. Light body and smooth flavor transfer.

Appearance: Dark golden color; the head is white (more than one would expect for a beer with such dark color), big and dense; it's been described as 'rocky' and that's quite accurate: a crater is left in its middle as I pour in my glass; good but not impressive retention and lacing; rich carbonation.

Smell: The epitome of hefeweizen; ripe banana, wheat malt, little hints of clove and citrus; do I smell peanuts?

Taste: I dare describe it as manly and sexy; it's uncomplicated (in a good way) and not delicate (in a good way), and almost robust; grilled bread, banana; hints of peanut butter; minimal hops.

Mouthfeel: This is medium to full-bodied (for a hefeweizen); midway between 'crisp' and 'creamy'; just a bit dry; carbonation feels perfect;it's not a light bier, it truly fills one's mouth.

Drinkability: Finished it in less than I expected, and couldn't realize I'd drunk 500 mL of bier; this is seriously drinkable!

Best hefeweizen I've had so far. Combines two things I love in a beer: strength and drinkability.

On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is cloudy yellow in color and poured into a weizen glass with a two finger high bright white head. The head has good retention properties and consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: There are aromas of bananas and bubble gum in the nose along with some hints of clove.
T: The taste has flavors of citrus and wheat; some hints of clove are present in the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a high amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink, refreshing and thirst quenching.

After rating the Dunkel awhile back, I had been looking forward to this.

Appearance: Beautiful golden hue with a touch of tan, quite cloudy with plenty of bubbles. Easily produces more than three inches of thick creamy off-white head. Leaves little bits of lacing all down the glass.

Smell: Banana esters are very strong here. A lot of wheat and yeast aromas as well. I seem to detect citrus, like orange or grapefruit.

Taste: Welcome home after a hot day. This is pure pleasure. Sweet, but not cloyingly so. Plenty of wheat, with a tiny amount of sourness. A fair share of the banana and citrus, with some cloves. What hops flavors there are, are well-blended.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied, this beer has a lingering pleasant sweetness. Not too much carbonation.

Drinkability: Oh, I could have these all day. I envision the first really warm sticky May day, sitting on a bar stool, having these on tap. That would be a fine day.

A staple in my fridge.

From a bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours light golden, a bit hazy with a very nice fluffy head.

Smells like a Weissbeer should. Lot's of fruit, banana, citrus but also a bit of yeast.

Taste is full of banana, wheat (duh') and yeast and quite a bit o clove.

Medium to full body. Plenty of carbonation with a dry finish.

This is a great beer to have on hand. I'm glad it's always available and I'll always have it on hand. One of the best Weissbeers in the world.
