Popping off the cap a foam head is slowly pushing out. Smells of banana. Poured into a Pilsner glass. Tastes of banana and there's something else in the mix, maybe sweetcorn. Soft malty aftertaste. Took a big manly gulp and got a momentary wash of cloves. Slightly champagney, even reminiscent of Duvel. Fantastic head retention. Very lively on the tongue, lovely.

Overall: This got me onto Weissbiers but I've tried loads since then and this is pretty unremarkable compared to a lot of others. In my opinion it's one of the most overrated beers on BA.

Bought this last night from Tanakaya in Mejiro, Tokyo. Excited about this one because I saw it has the highest ranking for hefes here on BA. DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Poured it into a new Paulaner hefe glass (also purchased at Tanakaya), and enjoyed enjoyed enjoyed! The head on this is ridiculously amazing, delicious and long-lasting, lacing the glass like a frappe. Loved watching all the particles float around in the glass, heightening the smell of orange and wheat and the taste of the same. The only thing I could ask for is a bit thicker of a brew just to give my tongue something else to play with. Other than that, this is the best hefe I have ever had, and especially for the price (relatively cheap), I will be a fan of this for life! GET IT!

Wait...can it be? Do you hear that?

It's the sound of angels singing in German.

It pours into my Weissbeir Glass with a thud. A small Bavarian farmer fell into it, and threw loaves of bread at my tongue. The beer is hearty, clove like, and packed with yeasty banana effervescence. Next time, I'm pouring this over my ice cream. It's the real deal.

Any product that has been in production for over 500 years doesn't need a review. This beer has achieved more then you and I combined.

Hier ist Götter Bier, Prost!

This pours a cloudy gold color with two finger width of off-white fluffy head that lingers and laces extremely well. Right on top I get clove, banana, and great floral aroma. great taste that just cleans you palate with every drink great subtle hint of all the flavors from the nose then I pick up a great bready flavor along with a wheat taste that comes with every beer in this style. This is medium bodied with medium to high amount of carbonation but nothing out of line with the style. This is the pinnacle of this style all other hefe's get compared to this, this beer is the gold standard of Hefe's.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is a textbook example of a classic Hef that achieves the pinnacle of the style. Poured into a belgian hefeweissbier glass, the beer stands tall with a pure white, soft bubbly foam head that tantalizes you to take a sip. Upon first sip, one instantly recognizes that hearty wheat flavor, combined with a comfortable, relaxed, light body mouth feel that is extremely satisfying. After a few sips one begins to appreciate the subtle complexity of the beer, with orange and light citrus hints as well as the classic German yeasty-malty flavor. Perfect beer with a light meal or on it's own, one never tires of a cold Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier.

Enjoyed in a weizen glass

A: Pours a slightly hazy yellowish golden color that is nice and bright and has a ton of carbonation bubbles, pours with three fingers of pure white head that lingers for a very very long time (im actually sitting here waiting for the head to drop back down to the level of the top of the glass so that i can take a sip) and is very fine bubbled, leaves a ton of thin lacing
S: really nice clean wheat scent, nice bready warmth and depth, a very slight citrus note evens it out at the end
T: well, shes delicious, as delicious as everyone says? quite possibly, begins nice and bready then kicks in with a nice citrus note, bready taste lingers on the palate long afterwards
M: smooth and bright, medium carbonation, leaves the mouth feeling clean, nice
O: its one hell of a beer, quite possibly the best for the style, very highly drinkable and delicious

nobody on this site seams to review a beer and give it there perfect rating. I have tried many different Hefeweisse biers for about the last 6 years as well as my own and have found that this example is the best.
it is said that this brewery has the earliest established date for brewing a wheat beer. however, this does not mean that all others should be judged by this breweries product. that said, this beer displays all of the characteristics of a bavarian wheat beer.
the appearance after pouring the beer and its sediment is a hazy light yellow with a full white h ead. the head or lacing, permeates through out the drinking of the beer.
smell is of musty bubble gum (banana and clove)
taste is both banana and clove and earthy.
it has a slight lean towards the bitterness of earthy hops and yeast than most, but in my opinion is the epitomy of german weisse bier.

Poured from a 500 ml. bottle into a Duvel Belgian Tulip glass.

Appearance: A semi-aggressive pour yielded a fluffy off-white 2” head, reducing to a thin ring. Lacing was clearly present, sticking to the side of my glass indicating the original head height. This beer poured golden yellow in color with definitive murkiness to it.

Smell: The classic Hefeweizen banana and yeasty aroma shines through, with a zesty citrus wheat finish. Clove is also present with a honey-like sweetness.

Taste: I can see why this beer rates so high among the Hefeweizens on the market. Banana dominates, with spicy wheat malts, honey, coriander, cloves and hint of lemon zing too. What a wonderful combination of flavors on the palate.

Mouthfeel: Light to moderate body with lively carbonation makes this an easy drinking beer. Very smooth, creamy and balanced on the tongue.

Overall: Outstanding Hefeweizen in every single category. This beer, by far, ranks up there at the top of its class. At only 5.4% ABV, this makes for the perfect flavorful all-year-round session beer. I can imagine this being quite the quencher during the summer months but if I’m being totally honest, I’m enjoying the heck out of this in the middle of February. I'm glad I committed to buying a few bottles of this. Well done Weihenstephaner, well done…
