Poured into a New Belgium goblet.

Appearance: This beer pours a deep golden straw color with trademark hefeweizen cloudiness. The head abruptly rises to about an inch and a half, but quickly recedes. A light foam remains on top, and broad patches of lacing remain on the sides when sipped.

Smell: Light floral notes, and lots of wheat on the nose. It has an understated smell, very nice.

Taste: Great tasting hefe with characteristic banana and clove flavors. Very light bitter finish trailing off, gone within seconds.

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation lasts throughout the glass. Nice mouthfeel.

Drinkability: I could drink several of them. They are delicious, refreshing, and not heavy at all.

Thanks to Kels for handing this one over :) Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a pale straw yellow with a very clear body that shows moderately strong carbonation; it comes with a 1 and 1/2 finger head this very white, but fades especially quickly to a very thin and uneven skim on the surface; a very loose lacing tries to hold to the glass and falls quickly back into the beer.

Smell: A very powderery tartness (yet a little sweet as well, kind of like a SweetTart candy) with a grainy/yeasty scent coming up as well.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Very much a grassy/grainy wheaty flavor; some aspects of yeast and that tartness really comes through in the aftertaste, and I would also say that it affects the mouthfeel as wel as it makes me want to pucker just a little bit (is this what "cloying" is?); mouth is also tingly from the carbonation and it feels very lively.

Drinkability: Quite high, it's a nice tasting beer with a very interesting mouthfeel - it's got a relatively light body and it quenches the thirst on a nice hot day. The ABV is also very manageable, so I would say that it would be easy to get through three of these in a night, if not more as long as I'm not driving

A: Poured into a weizenglass. Has a cloudy orange color with a white head that initially fills basically the whole glass. After A while the head dissipates a little and has an appealing rocky structure. Some lacings.

S: Lots of malted wheat and barley with notes of spices and banana. Hints of lemon and light phenols.

T: A rather soft but prominent malt presence of barley and wheat dominates. Lots of white bread and crackers. Well balanced flavors of banana and spices (cloves) take over in the middle. Notes of yeast with an earthy twang. The finish is gentle and a bit short with lots of mild spicy notes, some phenols and a light fruitiness. A minimal taste of alcohol in the finish as well. No real bitterness.

M: Medium body, not very crisp due to the gentle carbonation.

D: This is a hard beer for me to review since I generally have a problem with hefeweizens - I don't really like the style. I'm often underwhelmed by their flavors, short finish and mouthfeel. That being said, I think this one is quite good and I can see why it's conceived of as a real classic. It has a well balanced character, and both spices and fruit esters are pleasant and kept at bay (in some hezeweizens they are too prominent in my opinion). Easy to drink and refreshing, but it's not very interesting or exciting.

I purchased this beer for the first time from Elephant and Caslte's Pub in Washington, DC.

Slowly poured into a Weihenstephan pilsner glass, the appearance is a lightly golden cloudy hue. The aroma jumps out with hints of banana and clove. The taste is exceptionally smooth with no lingering bitterness. I have tried plenty of hefeweizen's and I must say this is by far my favorite and I highly recommend this to any beer advocate.

On a hot summer day this beer will not disappoint. Honestly, on any day this beer will not disappoint.

Poured from bottle into a hefe glass. Head was so big it took a few pours to get into the glass. Color is dead on straw color. The coolest thing about the appearance is that there is a twisting haze throughout the glass.

Gives a strong aroma of clove, banana, wheat and yeast. There is no better definition of style.

Taste is perfect hefeweizen. I could go into more detail, but it would be hard beyond saying there is anything better in german hefe.

Mouthfeel is weaker than I remembered it, but still good. Overall this is a world class beer!

much more interesting on tap with a balanced nature that is not as much of a stale candy finish. the fruit is still there but not as bombastic. banana, clove, is comparable to the apple, coriander. its refreshingly dry, crisp and not peppery sweet... but crisp and cool.

500ml bottle poured into a Paulaner Weiss glass.

A: Pours a gold tinted yellow color with a couple finger thick head that settles down to a thin covering relatively quickly. No real lace to speak of.

S: Quite a bit of orange aroma. It is mixed in with banana and spice and other things I can not place to make a very pleasing and inviting aroma.

T: The beer is very well formed. The main flavor is of wheat with fruit, citrus, and spice hints. There are a few Hefes that I have had and prefer so I am leaving room for them in the taste ranking.

M: The in mouth carbonation is a bit aggressive. It is on the thin side of medium as far as body.

D: This one really excels here. It goes down incredibly easy. The 500ml disappeared faster than a lot of 12 oz beers I have consumed.

Big off-white head that died down a few minutes after the pour. I was able to perceive very little aroma. The taste was mildly banana, but I was also getting a little vanilla? I think most people could drink quite a lot of this beer. To me, I spoke "light". Another of the great, highly rated beers that I thought was just OK.

A. Great appearance.Pours with a light brown that wisps down into a deep yellow on the bottom of the glass. Has a very nice head.

S. Smells strongly of bananas and wheat

T. Great example of the style but not spectacular. Tastes of bananas with a slight carbonated taste

M. Medium thickness and nicely carbonated

D. A very drinkable brew that goes down well. One of the better hefeweissen beers ive had

Poured from a half liter bottle into a tall Weizen glass.

Appearance: Cloudy golden color with thick creamy and foamy head that dissipated pretty slowly and laces beautifully.

Smell: Bananas, clove, bubblegum sweetness. Classic Hefe aromas.

Taste: Sweet, yeasty, wheaty. A perfect example of the HefeWeizen style. So sweet and delicious it does a little dance on the tongue.

Mouthfeel: Slippery, creamy and perfectly carbonated.

Drinkability: One of the best HefeWeizens in the world. I have been drinking these for years (after living in Germany for a couple of years when I was younger), and it's always a perfect session beer when I'm in the mood for a HefeWeizen. They don't get much better than this.

thought it was about time i tried this beer. six pack for $11 at liquor world, porter square, cambridge.

a: orange-y golden. plenty of white fluffy head, which dies down to a thin layer that lasts pretty well, decent lacing. cloudy enough to be seem completely opaque. nice.

s: some spicy yeastiness, apple, some malt, touch of grass, and maybe a hint of orange? maybe that's just my imagination. smells pretty akin to a tripel, actually.

t: follow smell. very refreshing, pretty crisp, apple being the predominating flavor i would say, just a touch of hop on the aftertaste, touch of citrus. i would prefer a bit more hop presence, but that's probably just me.

m: refreshing and crisp, good combo with a nice smoothness / thickness and a crisp carbonation

d: insane.

Poured from Bottle into Weizen glass.

Pours a cloudy yellow with some hints of orange and a fizzy but dense white head that quickly dissolves into a good layer atop the glass. The aroma is banana, clove, fruity esters and yeast, slightly bubble-gummy. The taste is sweet upfront and accompanied by some earthy notes and ends a touch tart with a nice semi-dry finish. Its light bodied with very nice effervescence. Very tasty stuff, I know now why people bring this beer up when talking about a "classic" German Hefe. We done, tasty and thirst quenching.

12 oz bottle with 9518 stamped on back label.

Beautiful pour: golden, and surprisingly clear (of course I had yet to pour out the yeast from the bottom). The head was white and fluffy, almost like marshmellow when viewing it. Now I poured the last remaining amount from the bottle and the ale becomes typically cloudy.

The smell is refreshing bananas, bubblegum and cloves and spicy malt aromas. I don't know the age of the bottle, but odor indicates freshness.

The initial sweet taste of banana like flavor is followed by lingering bubblegum flavor and malts. This was lighter in flavor than I remember, but still flavorful. Very good bready, yeasty flavors come forth as the weizen warms.

A decent spritzy fell on the tongue with the right amount of carbonation for this style. Again, lighter in body than I remember.

The blend of flavors and light body make this one very quaffable for the summer. However, I always remember this one having more complexity than I am tasting now. Still a very good brew.

Cloudy orange/straw with 2 finger head that dissipates to leave a sud lace. Smells of banana wheat and clove. Banana cream of wheat comes to mind. Flavors reflect the smell and are all well balanced and not overpowering. A little bready, biscuity flavor in the back too. Very smooth and refreshing. Creamy mouthfeel. You can believe the hype on this one. A great Hefeweizen.

"I had a bananer in there."- Junior Soprano.

I cant believe I have not had this in all my years killing my liver. Baby steps, I suppose.

A- Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is a golden colored hefe with a liquid honey look to itself with some light. A nice inch of frothy silky white foam graces the top for a bit before dissipating into a faint skim, very minimal lacing.

S- This smells great with a nice balance of wheat, sweet malt, bananers and light spice including clove. The clove is lighter than I expected. Some light lemon spritz in here. Also getting some sweet honey from this surprisingly.

T- The cloves come out a bit more in taste which is nice. The wheat is up next followed by bananer boats. Not getting any presence of hops in this one making for a smooth ride. Some more sweet malt giving off bananer bread. Some light citrus appeal.

M- Smooth as silk, goes down without a hitch. This is light bodied with low carbonation. No aftertaste at all, this hits you quick and leaves even quicker. No alcohol getting in the way in this low ABV'er. Smooth and tasty enough to down 100oz or so.

D- Easy as pie, this low abv hefe is the golden standard and now I see why. Entirely two drinkable and I would love to drink this out of a boot at a German festival, and get it all over myself. Refreshing is an understatement, would love to find a case of this for the summer months, although I would drink this year round.

A-Hazy orange color that is typical for a hefe. The head on this is beautiful, two to three fingers, great lacing.

S-Yeasty smell, also can pick up the citrus.

T-Great hefe, has a perfect balance between banana, cloves, and wheat.

M-Medium body, nothing I can find to complain about here.

D-Very easy to drink, I find that the glass is empty pretty quickly. Only problem I can find is after a couple the sweetness of the beer starts to get to you.

Notes: Great hefe and I believe this should be the hefe that one should compare others to. One of my favorite drinks during the summer.

Had on tap at Bistro Doner in Leesburg, Va.
Served in a Weihenstaphaner weissbier glass.

Poured a deep rich golden color. Cloudy with a nice, pillowy two to three fingered head.

Smells mostly of cloves, and had the same flavor as well. A slight alcohol presence, but mostly spice and perhaps a subtle hint of banana.

One of the best tap beers I've had.

Delicious with a bratwurst. Good enough I had two!

A great German Hefe Weissbier that typifies the style. It has a great cloudy appearance. The nose is quite fruity and spicy. The taste and drinkability of this beer is what always makes me smile, a slightly sweet front mixed with a spicy back. The finish is also surprisingly strong.

I would really love to try this on tap in Germany some day.

Split a 500ml with a buddy on a homebrew day.

A - Pours copper golden with a 1 fingered white head. Dissipates fast leaves a little lacing.

S - Honey, caramel, and bittering hops.

T - Honey, caramel, banana, clove and light bitterness from the hops. Really good, the esters and combination of flavors just mingle.

M - Full-bodied and well balanced. Not too slick, yet very refreshing.

D - This is a great beer for the style.

Live review. Purchased at Cost Plus World Market in Mentor for about $2.99, "One pint, 9 fl. Ounces" bottle poured into my Samuel Smith pint glass.

A 5 inch head after a moderately vigorous pour. The head passed the crest of the glass as one more ounce would have sent it spilling over the top. It took a good 2 minutes to settle from there, leaving some nice lacing. Dark yellow translucent body, a bit darker than the "Original Premium" that I sampled moments ago. 4.5

S At first I thought I picked up some smoky notes as in a Rauchbier but repeated sniffs revealed that this was not the case. I smell the sweet citrus and wheat that I am now familiar with from a Hefe and I love it. This is a classic Hefe if there could be one. Any fruit or citrus smell is not dramatic. The wheat dominates. 4.5

T/M/D Ahhh...this is a great Hefe. Nice "soft" wheat taste over a very light syrupy feel and light malt and very little hops. I get only a shade of banana and spice profile is not high (cloves can be common in Hefe's). This makes it ultimately very drinkable since to me the wheat taste is delicious and gentle enough to experience repeatedly. The ABV is low enough to again make it very drinkable as well. 4.5 4.0 5.0

Notes: I was prepared for a classic Hefe and this beer delivers on that suggestion. I am very impressed by how drinkable that it is.
