good head but the appearance looks cloudy and murky. almost diluted orange juice. smells of cloves and malt. tastes of cloves. very light, sweet, and smooth. has a slight taste of alcohol. this beer would be great on a hot summer day or with several friends at the local pub.

Sitting down to a virtual class on international business for my MBA, there is no better beer to distract me from the droning of the professor.

The beer poured a deep and cloudy yellow with a robust head. The scent was a barely noticeable yeast. Very creamy mouthfeel for a Hefe, which I enjoy. Went down smooth and finished with light citrus.

I tend to drink stouts, doublebocks and strong dark ales but I have been looking for something lighter for summer and this is definitely it. I have had a number of Hefeweizens, Pilsners, Pale ales, this is the best for relaxing on a hot summer's day.

Much better draft!
Poured a deep straw yellow, big white fluffy head and excellent carbonation(almost to much). Looked a bit cloudy and damn delicous. Nose was rather muted with clove, wheat and banana. Taste is banana, clove, wheat mix and well balanced together. Mouthfeel is medium but the low ABV and smoothness of this beer makes it very drinkable and tasty. ABout as good as it gets for a traditional hef.

I bought a quantity of this last year and completely forgot to review it. Well it's almost exactly a year later and I happened to come across it again, What a wonderful beer.

This pours a perfectly cloudy amber, with a thick creamy head that situates itself nicely on top leaving a trail down the glass as it is consumed. Smell is pretty much what is expected from a fine, well crafted German Hefeweizen, banana, cloves, and a subtle sweetness. Flavor is exceptional, banana bread, cloves, spices, delicious wheaty goodness, absolute perfection. Mouthfeel is very full and thick, every aspect of the flavor of this beer is prominent and fills out perfectly. As for drinkability I could drink this all day, it's wonderful.

Best part about this beer is that I'm drinking it right now. The only bad point is that in a few months it will be nearly a year before I can easily get more. As a Hefeweizen this is the pinnacle of the style, it doesn't get better than this. A must have.

I have to say I thought Samuel Adams was my favorite beers but this one knocks all out of the water. It is such a treat to have.

A-It's got a nice golden look to it.
S-It's got a nice banana smell to it with a little bit of apple.
T- It taste like banana too with a hint of Olive and Bubble gum w/ the hops. (As weird as that may sound it's quite good) it's a little sweet but not too sweet and you still taste beer. It smacks the mouth with flavor.
M-no aftertaste at all and it goes down smooth.
D- It's worth it! It's a treat to have. If any of you find this at a store you must buy it! It is an amazing beer.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is possibly the best Beer I have ever tasted and I will get another one from the store. It is as I said a treat. I am on a diet sadly and I rarely have a beer to help me drop pounds but, I love a good brew when I can and this is a beer I will love to treat myself to.

Poured into my San Diego Padres (a gift) pilsner glass and a nice pale yellow/gold color radiates with a nice massive two-finger bubbly off-white head...which dissolves but never leaves.

There is a great light popping sound as the head lowers. Rice Krispies?

A fruity smell with hints of pears, bananas, grapes and others.

Great taste again from this awesome brewery. Smooth, silky and creamy. Goes down smooth with just a touch of a spicy kick after the swallow.

The lower alcohol makes this an easy drinking beer with multiple consumption allowed.

Very well done and highly recommended.

16.9 fl. oz. bottle at refrigerator temperature poured into a snifter.

A - Cloudy orange body with a three finger head that slowly backs down to half a finger.

S - I can smell the beer without putting my nose close to it. Lots of banana, clove, yeasty bread, bubblegum, citrus peel, and coriander. Very full and enticing nose.

T - Lots of sweet, bubblegum-like flavors here. The fruit notes that were present on the nose give way to candy and spice flavors. The candy flavors are a bit much for my taste, but they are well-integrated with the complex spice profile.

M - Very crisp and clean, with lingering sweetness from the candy flavors.

D - I can appreciate this beer for how well-constructed it is (and has been for nearly a millennium!). It's not usually what I would choose to drink, but I'm not the biggest fan of hefeweizens, in general. This brew is a great representation of the style, though, and remains essential to any and all hefeweizen fans.

Pours a hazy, yellow colour with enormous white head and good, busy carbonation bead. Head sinks slowly and evenly across the top, but sticks around impressively for the most part. Clings to the glass when tilted, but doesn't leave huge amounts of lacing. Quite exemplary wheat beer.

Very spicy nose with a huge clove hit. Hints around the edge of coriander, banana and a very metallic, chemical aroma. Mostly that sweet but spicy aroma though. Again, exemplaring. Reviewing this now having drunk it so often in the past makes me realise that I've unconsciously spent years reviewing weizens against this one. This just embodies hefe smell.

Taste has far more banana character on it than the nose. Taste is sweet and light with a threshed wheat kind of character followed by a long, tangy banana flavour for most of the palate with hints of basil, coriander and oregano. The back is a nice spicey brush of the tastebuds with a strong clove character and hints of fresh cut grass.

Mouthfeel is quite tingly and almost bitey thanks to the beer's apparent acidity. Otherwise feels slightly thin, I suppose it's appropriate but I think there's enough flavour to expect a thicker body. Overall, while it's beautifully complex and rich in flavour, the sensation it gives me is ever-so-slightly offputting because it is quite tart, like unrripe fruit, and slightly bitey, rendering it not quite quaffable. But it's a prime example of the joy that wheat can produce, and a fine, fine piece of brewing art.

A: Hazy yellow-orange gold colour, with some small bubbles rising. The head is white, plentiful and quite creamy. Very good head retention and wonderful lacing.

S: Wheat, cloves, and bananas, as well as yeast. Some lemon undertones and malts can also be sensed.

T: Quite spicy, with notes of clove, nutmeg, and a touch of cinnamon. Loads of fruit notes (banana, citrus, and apple) and wheat. The yeastiness is moderate, which is a definite advantage. Finishes slightly dry and bready, with some fruity undertones.

M: Light-to-medium bodied, but definitely not watery for a wheat-beer. The carbonation is just perfect, very balanced. Goes down quite smooth, even though the alcohol shows a little bit.

D: A very drinkable hefe-weizen. Has everything there is to ask in a weizen, and is very refreshing, especially in the summer. A truly proper wheat beer!

Picked up this 500mL bottle from Binny's in Algonquin, IL.

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow golden color with a ton of white head that takes a while to settle down, but leaves good lacing on the glass.

S: tons of banana, clove, wheat, yeast, sweet malt

T: Sweet bananas, clove, wheat, yeast, pepper

M: After pouring, it was slightly thin, but I took a sip out of the bottle and the carbonation was great...I think it would be pretty good had I been careful with my pour. It's pretty full bodied and has a little bite from the carbonation

D: Highly drinkable, especially for a summer beer. The traditional hefe flavor can be a bit much for me if I drink a lot of it, but for what this beer is, it's great

I am telling you! This company makes the best smelling beers! Like its brother, highest marks for smell. Appearance has a nice head that dissipates in an interesting fashion by fizzing faster in some parts of the pilsner glass than in other areas. The color is mostly clear golden, but some haze in it. Taste is a good, clean, but still openly German. I could drink this beer all day if I had nothing to do or was afraid of the hangover I have discovered in my older age. Goes down smooth and no aftertaste. I highly recommended this great German beer.

Outstanding example of the style.

Rusty yellow gold with a good sized antique white head.

Outstanding nose on this beer! Flavor profile redolent of a fruit salad consisting of bananas, pears, golden apples and more bananas! The bready malt is there as well balanced with hops that don't show up much in the aroma.

Taste is very wheaty and fruity. Combined with the light fluffy body and the appearance of spices like clove and coriander this makes for a very appealing and refreshing brewski. I had fun sifting through the different fruit profiles and the yeast contributed nicely to the finish.

Medium to light body. Creamy and fluffy.

Almost like a wheat lambic with a heavier, wetter finish. Very tasty and findable. This makes a great lawnmower brew for the wheat heads.

There's a local place that has this on-tap, and you know what they say... Once you go tap... (Yes, very lame joke)...
Onwards:
It's a beautiful beer to look at. It's sunny and hazy with a lovely thick head. Celestial looking. The smell is a wonderful prelude to the first sip; it is loaded with wheat and a definitive banana whiff (not artificial or overly sweet either). The taste is perfect. It's easy to drink, filling, not too heavy on the carbonation. The banana bite is just right, unlike other hefes that have failed to nail this crucial part. Mouthfeel is on the thin side but not a problem at all.
This one's in my top 3, if that means anything to you haha.
[Insert little heart pictures all over this review if it will help clarify my feelings towards this baby].

A: Beautiful cloudy lemon color with tints of auburn. Huge fluffy head, and great lacing.

S: Bananas, clove, hints of wheat and vanilla.

T: Great flavor, and perfect example of a german Hefe, bananas, spices, pepper, and vanilla. Delicious brew.

M: Nice and smooth, moderate carbonation

D: This is a great hefe, and a perfect interpretation of the style. Highly drinkable and full of flavor. The American versions that have become a standard for summer seasonals, don't stand up to the German counterparts. This one is excellent.

Poured bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Nice cloudy golden color with a nice head that dissipated pretty slowly.

Smell: Sweet malt with a little banana scent to it.

Taste: Excellent. Sweet but not too sweet with a hint of the banana flavor and very refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thin but had some body to it. Not too much carbonation either.

Drinkability: One word: Excellent.

This is one of the best beers I've ever had. It works in every situation. It's good with food or on its own. It's good on a hot day or a cool day. It's good to just have one or half a dozen. It's simply a great beer.

a: plae hazy straw yellow color. Lots of bubbling carbonation. Nice foamy head wirth excellent retention

s: sweet smell of wheat, also hint of banana ester from the yeast.

t: Very good beer, light, sweet and the yeast esters provide nice caracter of banana, clove, bubble gum. I would say the banana was prominate early but as the beer warmed the close spicyness began to dominate the palate

m&d: very drinkable, excellent call in warm weather

I had reviewed this previously and didn't see what the fuss was all about. I gave it another try to see if my previous bottle was bad and yup, I get it now.

Cloudy lemon yellow color. Large, radiant white head with great retention and lace.

Smells of clove, mushy banana sugar, and twinkies with hints of lemongrass.

Dude...it tastes like vanilla banana pudding. Peppery clove spice in there as well. Wheaty yeast in back that blends rather than snaps.

I'm a fan.

500ml bottle from the lcbo. BB 2010

Served in a rhinelander glass.

A- Hazy gold with a nice white, creamy head of sticky foam, lots of nice lacing.

S- Your standard aromas of clove, banana and melon with some hints of vanilla.

T- some nice malt up front with good clove flavor, some citrus mid palate without the expected tartness though it is there but slightly subdued. The finish is a mellowing banana flavor rich with nice spices.

M- So smooth and soft on my tongue. Delicate. Light bodied. The perfect carbonation.

D- A great drink.

Overall i'm quite impressed. I've been looking forward to trying this brew and with good reason. This is by far hands down one of the absolute benchmark Hefeweizens. Hopefully no one else was planning on picking up the remaining 9 bottles at the store because i'm heading right back there!

Have I really never reviewed this?

One of those benchmark beers against which others are measured, the appearance, with it's huge rocky head and cloudy, hyperactive golden body are gorgeous.

On the clove-forward end of the spectrum, just a hint of banana and no real bubblegum presence. Intoxicating.

Rich flavor that I look for in a real German hefe with lemony edges around a smooth, soft wheat body. Just a touch of sweetness to the finish with the clove suggested on the back end.

Not quite as carbonated as others but with a full, round mouthfeel that so many American imitators fall short of. This is as drinkable as the style gets and consistently hits the spot.

Pours a honeyed brown with a billowy white, creamy head with yeast in evident, hazy suspension. Excellent head retention throughout.

The smell is exactly what you would expect, with yeast, clove and banana with some floral notes. Nice but not overdone. A powdery baseball card bubblegum starts to show up towards the end.

Starts with a wheaty lemony tartness, there's a pinch of bitterness and spice in the middle all leading to a clean, dry finish with mild elements of banana all throughout. The clove lingers nicely in the aftertaste as does a hint of orange peel zest.

Has a crisp and clean mouthfeel and a medium amount of carbonation, perfect for a hot and hazy day.

If I had to sum this beer up in a word that word would be refined. If I had to use more words I would say it's pretty much a textbook hefeweisen and a benchmark for the style. Highly drinkable. But it's a notch below Franziskaner and Denison's in my eyes.

Pours a cloudy, hazed yellow with a puffy, pillowy head

Smell is very strongly banana with underlying citrus notes of lemon and lime rind, slight sour apple, and a lot of corriander and yeasty aromas

Taste: The banana flavour is not overly sweet but borders almost on a tartness or sourness, the yeast characteristics give this beer a lot of depth and complexities that some other hefes lack. Next to no hop profile, but the vanilla in the middle is great, and this is a beer that you can actually taste the wheat.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a very soft, light carbonation

Chilled and a 12 oz bottle poured into a 0.5 liter Weizen glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: The beer pours out a rich hazy gold color with a 2" thick white fluffy head that recedes slowly leaving sides of glass coated and a thick pillow of foam over the liquid. Sipping leave some partial sheets of lacing with smaller patches here and there. The head seems bound and determined to remain to the end of the beer.

Smell: The aroma is fresh and refreshing and contains clove, some citrus (orange I think) with some nice banana notes.

Taste: The flavor of the beer is soft and pleasant and is consistent with the aroma. There are notes of clove, some nice hints of banana and some taste of orange. Some very light hopping shows up once in a while to cut the sweetness.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is soft and creamy with nice light carbonation. The finish is medium to short, begins with the full flavors of the beer and tapers off with a long, lightly sweet but citrus tart ending.

Drinkability: This is a very drinkable Hefe and I could easily have more. I don't know that I enjoy it more than some of the others I've tried (e.g., Ayinger Brau Weisse) but I'm going to enjoy finding out. I will certainly be drinking this one again and it is on my shopping list.

Bottle Pours a hazy straw color with a generous white head. The head lasts well. Has a good aroma of wheat and sweet fruits. Has good carbonation. The flavor is not as sweet as I thought it would be, it is muted nicely by light bitterness and nice hints of spices. This is well balanced. Has a dry texture. I would give it a light body.
