Cloudy pale gold with a big 2 inch white head. Good amount of lacings.
Taste is typical Hefe, spicy, wheat, slightly bitter hops. Less pronounced spice which suits me fine.
Aroma is spice and leather hops.
Mouthfeel is very good and carbonation just right.
Drinkability is very good but at 5.4% might be a short session. Label says "worlds oldest brewery".

So this is the kang o' hefes, eh? I can see why. In that case, Paulaner is the queen, because the two brews are remarkably similar.

It starts off in the looks department. Super-hazy copper with a white head that quickly settles into a ring of foam. Lacing is spotty.

Smells of lovely wild Bavarian yeast. The usual tasty aroma of cloves and nanners.

Flavor comes right back into familiar (but great) territory. Spicy, fruity and all that good stuff. So delicious.

Mouthfeel is the one are where I feel this has an advantage over Paulaner. It's just slightly creamier. If it wasn't for that, I probably couldn't tell the two beers apart.

Bow down to the king, bitches. While I can't just grab a sixer of this at work as I can with Paulaner, I fully intend to add this sucker to the rotation. World class weizen, for sure.

I can see why this is one of the best hefes. Pours hazy gold with a thick white head. Lots of banana, clove, yeast, and wheat in the nose. The taste really follows through with the same, adding a little more spice and a lemon/citus bitterness. Thicker mouthfeel that is lightened slightly by the carbonation. An excellent beer all around.

A- pours a hazy golden yellow with a several finger sized fluffy white head that lasts. some lacing left on the sides of the glass, but not much.

S- clove, banana, coriander, and of course yeast.

T- lots of spices up front. coriander and cloves. lots of yeast and some banana and bubble gum. about as close to hefe perfection as you can get.

M- medium bodied smooth, and creamy.

D- near perfect. very easy to finish and at 5.6% ABV, this is very sessionable. the low price makes it even more attractive. check this out if you get the chance and havnt before.

Reviewed on 4/23/08. Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a large white head. Aroma and flavor of spices (the spices are especially present when the beer is fresh...of the hefes that I've had, it has the most spices). Also your traditional hefe flavors of banana and some light fruits. A good hefe, probably one of the best. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

Please don't drink this beer. I already have a hard time obtaining it in my region.

Appearance - beautiful golden haze in the weizen glass is warming to the eye. The initial head is exceptional as a fluffy, creamy cloud. The carbonation is balanced and the head retention is great as it clings from the top of the glass all the way to the finished bottom. I love the glass as it refreshes the head from mild aggitation with each mouthful.

Smell - sweet banana, clove and bubble gum. Mild yeasty bread-like aroma.

Taste - similar to the smell with greater detection of mild spices. The specific dominance is the bubble gum banana characteristic which fits the style well. Citrus tones are also noted.

Mouthfeel - medium weight with a dry finish. I'm wondering if the hefe leaves a slightly pasty feeling behind... The texture is thin and smooth with perfect carbonation.

Drinkability - this beer is definitely a session beer.

Poured from a 500 mL bottle

Got this at Bert's Bier Huis in Utrecht

From a bottle into a Weizen glass

APPEARANCE: Deep yellow golden orange with a big fluffy white head. No carbonation evident. A thin film sticks around and lots of lacing lines the glass.

SMELL: Wheat malt dominates the nose. A good amount of clove and a hint of banana and lemon in the background. The malt is the strongest component, and the rest balance it out quite nicely.

TASTE: Wheat malt and slightly sweeter than average. Mostly malt qualities with a healthy dose of clove and some banana undertones as well. A slight bit of bread at the end. Definitely enjoyable.

PALATE: Medium thin body and slightly creamy on the palate. Goes down smooth and finishes slightly sticky. Carbonation is light but very appropriate for the style. No bite and feels right.

OVERALL: Feels and looks right, and has a nice malty taste profile as well. A very drinkable beer that could be drunk all night. This is actually on tap everywhere in Holland and it often turns into my session beer. I'm glad there's a top notch German weizen readily availible on tap here.

A- Cloudy organge/yellow with a very nice head. Great retention.

S- Sweat malted-wheat, some citrus, and only a bit of banana

T- Taste of sweet malted-wheat and some spice. Not a lot of citrus. No banana that I can pick up on. Almost no bitterness from the hops. Very clean finish.

M- Carbonation is good. Leaves almost no coat, and fades out quickly.

D- With the spot-on carbonation and clean finish, as well as slightly milder flavors (for a weissbier), one could definitely drink a few of these.

Overall, this is not my favorite wheat beer. It just doesn't meet the expectation I have for wheat beers in the flavor category. But, it's definitely a good one; worth trying.

A cloudy orange pour is topped with a huge, but delicate off-white head. Retention is amazing as straight lines of orderly bubbles march to the top. When all dies down, some thick lines of vertical lacing are left all the way to the top of the hefe glass. The smell is very complex with bananas, spice, clove and vanilla. Tastes is just as complex as the smell with creamy bananas, vanilla, cloves and apples all mixed in perfectly. Mouth-feel is medium-bodied, and I'm left wondering how this hefe has gone under my radar for so long. Liquid gold.

L: Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a tall and thick white colored head that laces the glass very nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet wheat malts, hefty aromas of banana and clove.
T: Tastes very much like the nose - big sweet wheat flavor underneath a nice banana and clove flavor that really completes it.
M: Smooth, a bit heavier than it looks, perfect amount of carbonation, refreshing.
D: Very drinkable beer and it should probably be the gold standard for hefeweizens.

Not really seeing what is so phenomenal about this brew.
I tried it once and was not impressed (although it was after having a Duvel, so I thought I owed it another chance).

Still, same thing here. Looks good, smells like a pretty standard hefeweizen, good body, but the taste just isn't there. It seems to me to be rather one-dimensional.

This was the perfect beer to quench my thirst. Poured into the appropriate glass at Zeno's...

A: Just as expected...extremely hazy yellow with a nice creamy snowblind white head. Tons of active carbonation, but its hard to see through the haze

S: Very, very light in smell and very fruity. Tons of banana, orange and lemon scents. Yeast scents and some yeast spice (clove, pepper) come through as well.

T: Extremely crisp and clean with fresh light fruits. Tons of banana, orange and lemon that really blend well with the spice of the yeast. The yeast spice is not overpowering, but it has a nice pepper aspect that goes well with the rest of the beer.

Overall, an incredible hefeweizen...rivals East End Monkeyboy as the best in my opinion.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier pours a good looking yellow-golden with a big, fluffy head. This easy drinking beer has a great banana, clove, and malt taste. Wow, what a great feeling going down. Really like it. Nice lacing here on my glass also. Great sessionability. One of the best things about this beer is that it's available all across the fruited plain.... it's even here in Alabama.

Served on a weizen glass from a 16.9 oz brown bottle.

Appearance: Cloudy, orange honey-colored with a rich, creamy head that settled to a consistent ring.

Smell: Exquisite bouquet ranging from banana to a slight clove. Very rich, floral aroma with a touch of spiciness.

Taste: Such a perfect balance between the ingredients. No bitterness whatsoever. The banana aftertaste is quite fantastic.

Mouthfeel: So light and thin on the palate, this beer goes down ever so smoothly.

Drinkability: This beer is so easy to drink. Hands down the best hefeweizen I've ever had. I was just missing the weisswurst to accompany it.

Appearance: Cloudy and golden. Pours with a creamy white large head. The head is reminiscent of a bed pillow. It just invites you to dive in. No sediment on the initial pour, but its a pretty large bottle so there might still be some in there.

Smell: Bannana, yeast, and some excellent spices. Not too overpowering. A great supplement to the taste.

Taste: This is what a hefe should taste like! Delicious banana, citrus, yeast, cloves, and a slight hint of citrus. I love how the taste lingers in your mouth and invites you to drink more.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, Perfect carbonation and finishes super dry. Awesome.

Drinkability: The taste, mouthfeel and complementary smell really make this probably the best hefe I have had to date. I can't wait until next summer when I can enjoy this on a regular basis.

Poured from 500 CL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Huge heaad with great retention. Head is like a cotton ball just floating on top of the brew. The body has a golden color with some honey accents.

Smell: Nice peppery citrus nose - big draw of banana

Taste: Taste is quite light, with some banana - and a spicey, metally finish.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied - leaves almost no aftertaste. Creamy.

Drinkability: Very light and refreshing. I was hoping for just a bit more flavor - but otherwise, a delicious brew.

One pint .9 oz brown bottle with no date but marked 6228 on the back.

Pored into a weiss glass this beer is cloudy lemon gold with an immense cloud of off white foam. Patches of fluffy lace ring the glass.

The scent is so strong I notice it from a foot away. Lemons, wheat, yeast, fresh dough, coriander, pepper.

Taste is sweet with lemons, green banana, softly sour yeast and wheat, fresh doughy bread. The sour lemon finish tickles the sides of the tongue a minute or two after the sip. Really a vivid sucking on a lemon sensation; nice! Mildly spicy with coriander, clove and black and white pepper. There's also a very soft nutty flavor buried in there.

Mouth is creamy but a tiny bit thinner than I would prefer.

Drinkability is excellent. The beer disappeared rapidly and left me wishing I had another bottle of it.

This is certainly one of the best hefeweizens I've had and I can only dream about how fantastic it must be when fresh off the tap in Germany.

Big thanks to Lynx1245

Appearance: Pouring viciously results in huge, pillowy white head. Liquid is banana-colored and quite cloudy, with no apparent sediment. Light lacing and medium retention.

Smell: Banana, sour yeast, clove, spice, and some tangerine. Maybe some citrus as well.

Taste: Mirrors the smell, yet not as pungent. Aftertaste is exceptional - loads of banana.

Mouthfeel: Very creamy with medium-light body and lower carbonation.

Drinkability: Could drink this all day. Flavor is a little underdone, which makes it that much easier to drink.

Poured a pint from bottle into hefe weizen glass. Huge head , which was very alive yet not over carbonated. Nice retention with consistent lacing throughout. Hazy golden-orange in color

Smells of typical hefeweizen with cloves and slight citrus and banana. Tastes of cloves and fruit with a nice creamy head. Slight hops at the end that pairs nicely with the sweet fruityness.

Mouthfeel is a very nice balance of carbonation and rich body.

Overall drink abilty is above average compared to other similar hefe weizens. Not to heavy, not too over spiced , soft on the palette but with good balance of flavors

Smell: wheat, bananas, cream, some citrus and other fruits (pear, peach, some apple?). Some sprices, too, although I cant nail them down. Overall: lovely, rich smell.

The appearance, by the way, of this beer is very nice, with deep yellow color and white creamy foam.

Taste: really smooth, rich taste - bananas, wheat, pear, cream, apricot, some spices.

This is the best weissbier Ive tried. Excellent.

A: Very cloudy, murky orange-gold. An incredible, thick, rocky white head bubbles up and sticks for a long while. Lace clings to the sides of the glass.

S: Sweet wheat malts, a spicy nature reminiscent of pepper, yeast, and lemon peel. Maybe a little clove as well.

T: Full-bodied malted wheat and barley, earthy, citric yeast notes are prevalent. A definite clove flavor hits the tongue with a bit of crispness. Hops provide just a little twang of bitterness. The finish offers a bit of peppery spice and some nuttiness. Some faint banana flavor is also present near the finish.

M: Slightly crisp, medium to full body with very creamy carbonation from very small bubbles. Finishes very clean and on the dry side.

D: Wow, this is really a great beer. The appearance is stunning and the flavor is complex and very expertly balanced. It's not too robust to drink several of, but it's a rewarding beer.
