look: 4.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Pours a golden yellow, completely filtered color, with a stable, fluffy big head.

Smells of a dough bread infused yeast character with a whiff of clove and cardamon to it, ballanced by grassy hops, together with lots of straw. Reveals ripe banana underneath, adding to the spiciness of the yeast, without loosing its white bread malt qualities.

Has a very lively carbonation, with a soft mouthfeel, resulting in a very refreshing, light bodied beer pending between spices and malts.

Tastes almost as clean as the beer looks, while the initial yeast profile shines not only due to its pleasantly integrated spices, but also due to grassy hops and a certain amount of bready malts. The malts turn sweeter after the swallow, showcasing the beers flawless taste, enriching its yeast characteristics by additional balance and complexity, as well as a copper note, brought to the palate by the otherwise soft carbonation bubbles. Finishes with hay infused yeast, weaker on the spices than during the beginning, absorbed by profound, sweeter malts, pleasantly feathered by leafy hops.

Convinces by its perfect mixture of flavors, creating a fantastic balance, tied together by a very smooth mouthfeel, while remaining its refreshing impact. (1,238 characters)

Brilliant golden color with exceptional clarity. There's a massive bright white dense two inch head of foam. Moderate lacing. Clean wheat and banana ester aroma is very appealing. The flavor is a bit less banana ester than it's unfiltered cousin, but the wheat is definitely just as present. The mouth is exceptionally smooth and crisp. Very refreshing. (359 characters)

Look: Two fingers of frothy white head dissipate rather quickly to a short mound in the center of the glass as the rather active carbonation crashes to the surface. The color of this beer is a very crystal clear straw. No lacing.

Smell: Sweet banana and spicy clove esters at the begining fades behind a nice clean wheat and finishes with the aroma of the first few chomps of a Bazooka bubble gum.

Taste: Bubble gum right off the bat and sticks around through out the sip. Banana and wheat develop before any baking spice is present and the clove is very subtle.

Feel: For a style that is supposed to be rather light, this one has a bit to chew on. Active carbonation dances around the tongue.

Overall: I was kind of surprised by how much I liked this beer. I've been having a lot of very mediocre Hefes lately and wasn't really going into this one with huge expectations. But, alas, twas love at first sip. Big thumbs up and high fives to those currently accepting high fives. (981 characters)

Not a bad beer, but the hefe' simply blows it out of the water. Here goes:

A: Good. Relatively clear but slightly hazy straw color. Pours a very large head and has adequate carbonation. Lacing is minimal, however.

S: Very grainy and grassy. Lightly-kilned cereal malt complemented by grassy hops. Some lemon as well. Good, but graininess isn't exactly a virtue.

T: More complex than the smell, which is good. The beer, however, tastes a lot like a muted hefeweissen. Some of the banana and wheat of the traditional weihenstephaner hefeweissen complemented by grassy hops and yeast. Good, but the regular hefeweissen is just so much more robust.

F: Too light and watery.

O: Good beer, but I don't mind drinking from cloudy beer if it tastes better. (767 characters)

Poured into a teku glass out of 500 ml bottle
poured a brilliant straw color with a huge 2-inch fluffy white head. Retention is very high and lacing was big and pillowy.
Smell was of clove, banana, spice. Alcohol not noticeable
Taste follows the nose with the banana and phenolic flavors shining along with that German hefe yeast.
Feel is on the lighter side of medium and the carbonation is moderate. A little sweetness on the back end.
Overall, this is another solid brew from Weihenstephaner. (498 characters)

500 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Purchased while doing a little cross border shopping in Niagara Falls, NY. Prices came to about $4 CDN after exchange rate. Been looking for this beer for along while now, but it has never been available in Ontario.

Appearance - This looks like a magic act. Pours crystal clear golden in color, not unlike a good quality Munich Helles lager with plenty of bubbles. The head however is all hefeweizen, three plus fingers of billowy white head leaving behind multiple rings of lacing with a near eternal head due to great retention.

Smell - Banana, yeast and clove dominate although it is more subdued than it's more famous hefeweizen brother. A bit of a minerally aroma in behind the fruitiness of this beer.

Taste - Yummy banana and powdery yeast, hint of bubblegum. The clove flavor is dialed down a bit as is the overall banana taste, but this is still a delicious German Wheat beer.

Mouthfeel - Ridiculously smooth, with high carbonation that just fits, soft delicate feel in the mouth, although the body is at least moderate.

Overall - Absolute top notch brew from the brewery that is the godfather of all German wheat beers. Flavors are the same as its notorious hefeweizen twin, although to me appeared to be dialed back just a tiny bit and the aroma is less fragrant (although that improves too as it warms). What else can be said about such a great beer? (1,417 characters)

A beer like this is proof why tekus are not the end all and be all of beer glassware. Anyone who has ever tried this beer and knows the history behind the style knows that one needs a fast long pour to assist in opening up the correct nuances of the aroma and flavor.
With that in mind, a friend of mine and I conducted an experiment to correctly displace the teku altogether. This beer was poured into a weizen glass and a teku.
Though the color was the same in both glasses. The head was extremely short in the teku and showed lack of lacing.
This ended up not showing enough clove in the aroma in the teku. Sweet bubblegum, typical of the style was more pronounced in the weizen glass.
This ended up even messing up the flavor in the teku. Luckily, the correct glassware saved it.
The mouthfeel was pretty much the same in both glasses. Besides a glass isn't really going to ever change the mouthfeel of any beer anyways. Smooth clove, sweet bubblegum and light banana.
Overall, for the style and as many times I've had this, its awesome. When you pour it into a teku, you look foolish and you're crapping on the style. (1,122 characters)

Poured into a Weizen glass. Striking crystal clear golden color with huge bright white head. Nose has yeast, banana, clove and faint malt. Taste follows the same with a clean finish. For a filtered hefe, the taste was more than I expected - a pleasant surprise. Just awesome. (276 characters)

Quite possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a glass. Pours a light, crystal-clear golden yellow with a thick, pure white head and clouds of carbonation rising continuously. Clean taste and crisp finish, pleasant but not overbearing on the spice. Highly recommended. (281 characters)

Poured into my weizen glass, naturally, around cellar temperature.

A sparkling golden yellow of stunning clarity, topped with a cap of pure white foam that is fed and kept alive by a persistent and frenzied storm of carbonation rising ever upwards.

I get the classic banana and clove for sure, accented by some lemon and a wonderful crisp bready, biscuity smell. More of a savory than sweet breadiness. Think pretzels!

The flavor lays down a sweet little bit of lemon and light banana at first, followed by a simple but satisfying thesis statement of crisp, refreshing breadiness. There's not much else to say, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It's body is fully full, bringing all the carbonation one could ever wish for. This enhances the crisp finish nicely.

This is a perfect beer to have when it's hot, or after going on a sweaty run. Not overly complex, it delivers straight-to-the-point German wheat beer refreshment. (937 characters)

This is a striking beer: a huge white head perched atop a sparkling, crystal-clear pale gold body that leaves lacing everywhere it goes. The nose is a modest banana/clove spice with floral hints. These are joined on the palate by a moderate bitter citrus note, sitting atop a foundational clean wheat flavor. The finish is balanced, with a bitter citrus note that lingers a bit. The style's characteristic light body and a slightly creamy texture add to the drinkability, while the fizzy carbonation keeps it interesting. (521 characters)

Straw yellow and clear (duh), two whole fingers of white foam and carbonation ringing down the glass. Lots of grass and banana in the aroma with more in the taste, as well as a subtle hop character and some breadiness. Fair amount of carbonation makes this beer finish very crisp and dry. (288 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a Weiss vase, the beer is a crystal clear, straw gold coloring with a fluffy, bubbly, clingy, white head. Aromas of toasted grain, subtle floral notes, grassy highlights, and hints of citrus. Flavors are crisp and smooth, with a slightly sweet citrus and honey blend on a toasted backbone, with grassy and floral hops notes to keep things cut and clean. Very light and amazingly balanced, all on a smooth, light, effervesced body. The aftertaste is toasted and light, leading into a smooth, crisp, clean finish. This is a benchmark. (558 characters)

- clear hefe with big white head
- some clove which is pleasant but a banana scent is not as much
-a smoother better balanced hefe with less flavor as well
-perfect silk smoothness feel
- overall a great beer not big on the style but this would be a great example of that style (277 characters)

500 ml bottle with a BB date of 11 Dec. 2015.
Pours light golden with excellent clarity and a high level of visible carbonation flowing up to an over-sized, frothy head.
The aroma features banana and clove with a light bready base. The flavor follows.

O: Not a favored style; even so, not as great for style as expected. (323 characters)

A: crystal clear; pale gold in color; 1 finger mousy white head that receded to a thin cap; nice lacing that lasted;

S: clove and banana; a little bready; a hint of skunkiness;

T: clove for a moment, then banana mixes in; finish is a balance between clove and banana with a mild bitterness;

M: light to medium bodied; highly carbonated - effervescent; crisp; dry finish;

O: very refreshing; (394 characters)

This one has a little more zip and tang than the unfiltered version but it's still replete with banana and spice goodness. I think I prefer the style with the yeast, to take the edge off, but this is still a mighty fine drink. (226 characters)

Holy cow bubbles. Every gulp made me bloated until I burped. It really is crystal clear and smells amazingly crisp. Taste is the same too but not as strong. Basically their hefeweizen filtered clean. Nothing wrong with it I just prefer their hefe and more so their weizenbock known as vitus. Bottom line is they make great beers. You can't go wrong with anything they got. (374 characters)

Very different style from what I usually drink, but this was a pleasant change of pace. It was very clean and looked like a Pilsner. The foamy head was white and creamy. The taste threw me. It has the taste of a almost creamy wheat beer that you would normally expect to be cloudy and unfiltered. This was a great taste. Creamy and had a lot of fruit notes. Very refreshing and I would suggest trying this in the warmer months. (434 characters)

Hugely foamy and effervescent head. Almost no aroma; no after-taste and practically no finish. Flavor is crisp with mild esters.

From the bottle into a tulip glass.
This is a really unique, well-made beer, a home run. As advertised, crystal clear and golden, yet packed with huge flavor. It pours a brilliant white head that stays around throughout. The yeast is the ticket here, yielding a big bold aroma like a bouquet of sweet fresh cut flowers. Slightly fruity, with a bit of hop bite. Maybe it would be better if slightly more crisp and hoppy. Yet as it stands, I'll definitely seek this out again. (474 characters)

Kkkkkkkkrystalviezbeeeeeeeerrrr

The look itself : Extremely tall head, makes up 90% of the appearance. The head does diminish but not by very much. The body is a beautiful peachy pineapple glow, sediment floating around. Mostly hazy in appearance.

Aroma : peaches, apples, candy coated sugar dreams of dying wishes. I could smell this all day. Golden Graham's. Laffy Taffy. Oh man. Yet you still know its a beer. Umm, FIVE!

Flavor : compared to the smell it's rather bland. That being said it's still good, it has a dry champagne like taste, with faint apple, pear, and pear juice, a little wheat, and club soda. All of this is fairly 2-D in character.

Mouthfeel : light bodied, very crisp, very dry. Ends just like that, too.

Overall : this obviously is still an awesome beer. Weihenstephaner does no wrong! However I was rather disappointed in this beer. My least favorite from Weihenstephaner, but better than most beers. (929 characters)

I love hefs and this beer is everything I'm looking for in an easy drinking beer. It goes down smooth, crisp, and clean. Unlike many light beers, though, there is a defined, full-bodied wheat flavor, with a touch of banana sweetness in the background and no hops to speak of. An absolutely perfect beer for drinking a few pints outside in the warmth of the spring or summertime. It went great with the rich German food I paired it with, but it could go just as easily with something as light as a tuna sandwich. It's beers like this that make me proud of my Bavarian heritage! (576 characters)
