Review on tap 4/30 (increase from original flat 3.75):
Clear pour, yellow straw in color. White fluffy head that lasts pretty well.
Nose has some sweetness to open, some banana esters and light floral and sweet fruit notes (indistinct).
Taste is similar to nose, feel is quite smooth, light to medium in body. Light sweet grains more or less dominate, but not to the point of making the beer seem sweet. Essentially the bitterness act to counter more than completely balance, but the effect is nice.

16.9 ounce bottle poured into a wheat beer glass

A - crystal clear medium gold with an initial large foamy head, excellent retention and small bits of spotty lacing.

S - fresh bananas, clove, grains, and grasses. None of the notes are overpowering.

T - I honestly feel this a pretty one dimensional beer. Nothing seems to change from start to finish. It is malt forward and dry.

M - good carbonation but a little watery.

O - This is a very lite easy to drink offering, probably perfect for a hot summer day. It just isn't very bold.

Weihenstephaner Kristall weissbier 16.9 fl oz bottle $2.39(OH)

16.9 fl oz bottle poured into a stemless white wine glass. No freshness date. ( Look it up on freshbeeronly)

Pours a nice crystal clear pale golden color. A three finger thick creamy bright white head that last forever it seems. The creamy Head being thicker and taller towards the middle of the glass. Very nice soap bubble like lacing is left all over the bulb of the glass. I have never seen a clear hefe before.

The aroma is a weak combo of wheat, banana's, lemons, cloves and other spices.

Taste follows the nose. But the malts are heavy, the wheat taste is very low. As well as other tastes. The banana's aren't very strong nor are the cloves. It's well balanced but the all the tastes are subtle. Maybe a clear hefe is not such a good idea, is it taking away all the flavor? It don't taste no where near as good as the original hefe.

mouth feel is OK. carbonation is good. Malts cling to your palate. It's just that it lacks that spicy/clovey banana feel that clings with the aftertaste. It has it but its weak.

Overall, i have walked past this several times and finally i said i'll give it a try. I should of just walked by to get some original hefe. Or the new Yuengling summer wheat, which is an amazing budget hefe. Would i buy this again? no. Its not the hefe style that i am growing to love. I would take some summer wheat over this any day.

Not a big fan of wheat beers with a lot of "wheat" attributes to them, have had several good ones. This one just isn't high on my list of wheat beers.

Appearance; served from brown glass bottle (capped) into tinkered, firm off white head with medium bobbles lasting 3+ minutes, deep yellow color, and very clear.

Aroma; medium strength (glass towards nose) with banana notes

Taste; medium high malts with a typical wheat flavor and medium low hops, flavor intensity seemed medium with the malts upstaging the hops with a smooth finish.

Mouth feel; medium to full with good carbonation

Overall; An alright beer, but as stated, not a fan of the stronger "wheat" beers.

Poured into a tall Weihenstephan glass

A- Pours as the label states, crystal clear golden color with a huge pillowy and foamy white head that retains long after the pour, eventually leaving a two-finger head behind with some small patches of lace

S- powdery yeast gives aromas of sugary banana candy, melon, pear and underlying clove. A hint of wheat and cracker-like malt closes out the aroma

T- subtle candy-like sweetness up front with the fruity flavors of banana and pear following, earthy yeast with a subtle crackery malt lead to a dry finish with lingers of clove and banana

M- medium body with light carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel and a smooth and crisp finish

O- as with most of their beers, this one is the standard when it comes to the style. Similar to the regular hefeweizen, but a cleaner palate. Perfect for a warm day with all day drinkability

Poured into a nonic pint glass. Bottle marked “4173”

Refreshing. One of the best beers I have ever had. You are either going to love it or hate it. Massive clove and phenolics. I first had this beer at an adult function for my child’s catholic school. It was a German themed event and everybody, even those I would not consider craft beer drinkers, loved it. 4.75

A – Clear, but no brilliant (-), pale yellow/straw colored with a white on white two-finger mousey head, some lacing. 4.5

S – Cloves, spicy, yeast, good bananas 4.75

T – Pepper spicy, slight bubblegum, very phenolic, slightly sweet, some hoppy bitterness in the finish with a fruity tartness. 4.75

S – Medium-light bodied with a dry finish, some chewiness/maybe creaminess, slightly coating. 4.5

16.9 oz. bottle poured into wheat beer glass

L: pale yellow, clear as glass; MASSIVE white head of foam that won't dissipate ... lasts and lasts and so solid I have no choice but to drink through it; head is at least 2 inches; a little stick, almost no lace, but the pour is a show.

S: sour bananas; sweet bubble gum; lemon; yeast

T: super sweet lemon yogurt; bananas; yeast and more yeast

F: a tad light but perfect for drinking lots and lots

O: wheat beers aren't my bag, but man is this good; super drinkable and fun to look at ... it puts on a show. it has just enough tartness to take a little off the sweet banana thing, which for me is perfect. at some point I'm going to get more serious about trying more of the wheat beer family, and I have a feeling this brew is going to stick in my top five ... right now it's No. 1.

look: 4.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

A- Like almost every Weihenstephaner beer I've had, I get a massive, foamy and chewy head (pale white in color) on the pour. Below is a golden liquid with brown hues, perfectly transparent and displaying an intense, steady carbonation. I expect such beauty from these brewers, as from a visual perspective (at the least), they are always works of art.

S- A punch of clove and banana. It's very straight forward and if there's anything else going on there, I'm hard-pressed to detect it between or around the prominent aromas I just mentioned. There's some sweet malt I find with a little more effort.

T- Just like the nose, very heavy on the banana and clove. It's also sweet and bready and there's some yeastiness and lemon zest.

M- The beer is very effervescent and there's a yeasty tingle. The beer is medium-bodied with some sweetness and creaminess bouncing off of the more aggressive, bubbly yeast feel.

Another tasty beer from Weihenstephaner, heave on the banana and clove. I'm a bit more partial to the darker beers with a bit more nuttiness and malt, but this is still a superb beer.

Pours a crystal clear light golden with a massive head and lacing. Light nose of yeast coupled with lemon and banana. Light medium body with a smooth texture that is attacked by the effervescence of this well carbonated ale. The flavor profile begins like the nose then progresses to a subtle clove spiciness. The finish is clean with a nice clove twinge that lingers. While outstanding in its own right, it tastes like a light version of Allagash White.

A: fluffy eggshell head, inches deep, settles to a centimeter or two; per the name , translucent light-gold straw; sudsy short-lasting lacing
S: heady lemon-yeast, fresh; light bubble gum
T: sweet, bready, buttery/creamy (weird in a light-bodied beer, I know, but if weissbier is liquid bread, this would your liquid butter rolls!)
M: light but has more of a medium presence because of the oil/butter feel; dryish
O: The degree of presence in such a clear beer is surprising, but enjoyable. That sense keeps it being a refreshing beer, which most other elements would play into, but it's quite well done.

Tried this a couple days ago. Just such a great flavorful beer. Not that bitter and I can now remember the banana notes. I almost confused it with a buttery quality, that tasted great, but makes more since of banana. Over all great beer and great brewer. Also one of the best looking beers i have seen in a while.

A: Poured from the bottle into a Weihenstephaner glass. Light golden and perfectly clear with a 3 finger head. Gorgeous.

S: Bananas and bubble gum

T: Bananas, bubblegum, and clove. Spicy on the tongue and oozing with flavor. Lingering yeasty banana notes.

M: Light bodied with a semi dry finish.

O: Just a perfectly crafted beauty. Can easily drink a few of these at 5.4% in the summer time on the porch but I'm fine with drinking this in the blizzard right now too. Not a fan of wheat beers really, but this is magnificent.

Serving: Bottle into pint glass
Served: 25 Jan 2014

Appearance: A rich golden yellow, crystal clear beer that pours with a foamy white head which slowly dissipates. Leaves some lacing, but not too much.

Smell: Much like one would expect, the traditional Weihenstephaner banana-cloviness comes out in the nose.

Taste: The banana-clove flavor is the most pronounced in this beer, again, as one would expect. This one is far crisper in flavor than its unfiltered cousins, leading to a much drier beer.

Mouthfeel: Bubbly like champagne. The carbonation is perfect on this one, and leads to a lot of additional body to make up for the lack of suspended yeast as in regular hefeweizens.

Overall: Finally, a Kristallweizen I can get behind. This one maintains all of the banana-clove flavors traditional to the style and rather than tasting like a diluted hefeweizen, this one drinks crisp and clean leading to a dry, but refreshing finish. A great beer, and the best Kristallweizen I've had to date.

DATE TASTED: December 31, 2013... GLASSWARE: Weihenstephaner weizen glass...OCCASION: home fore New Year's Eve and hoping this beer delivers like champagne... APPEARANCE: as advertised, crystal gold, mildly effervescent base; thick, cumulous white head; good, persistent, wavy lacing... AROMA: banana, clove, bubblegum and yeast; unmistakably wheaty... PALATE: bubbly, beefy body--yet light and fluid; crisp and clean, with an almost medium-bodied presence...TASTE: bubblegum esters front and center; apple, pear and some clove--an enjoyable experience... OVERALL: a fantastic filtered version of the vividly unfiltered offering; a great combination of drinkability and character; champagne indeed! its refreshing zest pairs well with light cheeses and crackers...

Briefly.

Cannot understand how I have not reviewed this yet.

Maginificent fill into the named glass.... Head forms and stays despite minimal noise on opening. Muted banana lollies and clove on nose, but springs into life on taste.
Mouthfeel to die for, only Weihenstephaner seem to be able to get such delightful carbonation.

I'd go their Hefe every time, but a minor niggle in comparison

I am not an expert with this style of beer so I am rating it per my tastes and not so much how it ranks against others. The beer poured a lighter golden fairly clear with thick head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent carries clove and biscuit. The taste is strong clove with some banana and bread. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with smooth carbonation. Overall the beer is decent but I would not drink a lot of it.

Pours a clear straw color with a massive head that slowly receded to a thick cap. A lot of lacing is left down the glass.

Not much difference between this beer and the hefeweizen. Still get a lot of yeast aromas. Cloves and bananas as well as a healthy dose of wheat.

Get more wheat flavor in this beer compared to the hefeweizen but otherwise features some excellent yeast flavors.

Does not feel as "chewy" as the unfiltered beer. Feels lighter but still expertly carbonated.

Better than 95% of wheat beers on the planet. Only eclipsed by a few hefeweizens.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a golden color with a fizzy white head of two fingers. The head fades relatively quickly, fading to leave a lighter level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is mainly of a grainy and bready smell mixed with aromas of some sweeter caramel and a bit of light fruits (banana, orange, and pear). Rounding out the aroma are some quite light but detectable aromas of some spice of clove and coriander as well as a yeasty cake aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a slightly grainy and moderately caramel sweetened flavor. As the taste advances some of the yeast and spice greet the tongue with the caramel fading but being replaced by some lighter fruit flavors of banana and citrus. More toward the end, a somewhat grassy flavor comes to the tongue as well as the grainy tastes seeming to amplify to some extent, with the mix of flavors in the end, leaving a rather nice clean and malty flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side for a brew of 5.4 % abv with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. Both are rather nice for the blend of grainy malt, sweet, and lightly hopped flavors of the beer and make for a very easy drinking brew.

Overall – A nice very easy drinking brew with some great blend of tastes making it a nice flavorful drinker.

Appearance: Pale yellow color with a quickly dissipating, creamy 2 finger head. Lots of bubbles. Lacing is slick; won't really hold to glass. 3

Mouthfeel: Medium light body with crisp carbonation. Dry, lightly sour finish. 3.25

Poured a clear light golden color in a Weizen glass with a 4F head which resolves itself
within a few minutes. Carbonation bubbles from the bottom of the glass

Aroma: heavy clove and light lemon. The clove is not as pronounced after 5 minutes.

The mouth feel: crisp clear finish, with some bitterness. The beer is quite carbonated, more than some of their other Hefeweissbiers I have tasted.

Taste: lighter clove.

Overall, this is a very good beer, but I prefer some of the other beers from this brewery.
The bitterness and lack of strong clove make it less enjoyable. I prefer more blandness, less carbonation, mouthfeel and bitterness in this beer
