Had this on tap at the Flying Saucer in Nashville, TN.
Brown opaque sort of like Mott's apple juice with small tan head that dissipated. Bready and malty aroma. Sweet burnt malt flavor dominates. Fruit flavors also come through (plums?). Very lightly carbonated. I did not detect any banana nor cloves flavors, which I would have also liked, but was good tasting nevertheless.
Serving type: on-tap

1 pint, 0.9oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a rich brown with ruby undertones with a tall cream colored head that has good retention and some lacing.
Smell is of sweet roasted malt, picking up some fruit like banana from the yeast, as well as clove and faint hops.
Taste is similar to the smell, sweet malt up front, with banana and clove in the finish with slight spiciness present throughout. Mouthfeel is highly carbonated and soft, some creaminess as well.
Overall, one of the best Dunkels out there and is always good to have some on hand.

A: 4.25 Pours a hazy, reddish-brown with a large off-white head.
S: 3.75 The aroma is mostly bread, esters, yeast, and malt with some light hops in the background. There’s a little bit caramel with the malt, but it’s very faint.
T: 4 Slightly sweet at first with a good amount of fruity, spicy esters following. The malt and hop levels are very nice, but not adding anything particularly interesting. This dark version is actually quite similar to the original.
M: 4.25 The body is pretty light and quite refreshing for a “dark” beer. Carbonation is very nice and enhances the fairly muted flavors.
O: 4 This beer is very nice, however it is not particularly interesting. As mentioned above, it’s very similar to the original version but there’s a little less going on. I was hoping for a bit more roasted malt to come through on the nose and palate, but it’s still very good and easy to drink.
