eyes...
rice krispies snap crackle and pop head, that sticks around a bit for fun, hazy amber brown mud, dark red/brown clay, minimal lacing. nice.

nose...
sweet and grassy, some apricot notes, definite sweetness seems to be the fattest sensation, dried honeycomb, a pinch of cinnamon, smells very very good

taste etc...
the carbonation floats this one well, making the body feel medium, filling the mouth well, sligh bitter tastes are left behind inthe corners of your mouth when this one slips away, very easy drinking except maybe slightly over carbonated (burp), has a mild bannan esque flavor, oddly enough it reminds me somehow of Malheur 10... ? ?

verdict?
not totally for me, not bad, a little too fruit (sweet) like for my personal tastes.

Poured from a bottle into glass mug and served at approximately 50 degrees.

A: poured a beautiful brownish copper color with half inch head that lasted and left good lacing through the finish

S: a very dynamic aroma from opening the bottle to the last drop consisting of biscuits, bready and hop notes, and a touch of wood

T: fantastic, flavors that came through matched and were brought out more intensely by covering the entire palate, bready, some hops, and a smooth finish

M: medium/full mouthfeel coating the palate just enhanced the flavors even more

D: filling, could only drink one or two but what an experience those two would be

If there is a perfect beer, this is it! From first opening the bottle through the pour and right to the finish this beer is superb!

I have been looking for a good beer in this style striking out a few times but I hit the jackpot with this one.Poured a rich brown/copper color with big blooming head.Smelled of caramel and toffee with come faint smokiness to it as well.Pretty nutty flavor with some fresh tartness in there, pretty complex and rewarding.Should have known this was the brewer who would get this beer right.

Appearance – Very cloudy and “dirty brown” in color with a tight foaming head that sprang from the glass in an instant. The head showed good retention and was lightly tanned, making this very nice to look at.

Smell – Oh, Lordy, have I finally found a true imported Dunkel Weissbier? The strong yeast aroma is a long-awaited pleasure to my olfactory bulb. This one takes me back to the Stammtisch at the Goldener Anker.

The yeast aroma is slightly toasted and beautiful. There’s the traditional banana notes along with some spicing (maybe clove or cinnamon?), but all the second-tier players are in the background. The yeast steals the show here, as it should.

Taste – This has an excellent and traditional flavor. The toasted yeast from the nose comes out well at the taste and continues to improve as the bier warms (I should have poured this “warmisch”). The typical banana notes are muted but noticeable along with some light spicing.

Mouthfeel – This is where many miss the mark, but here we have an excellent, authentic example. The carbonation is not light, fizzy, and cheap as it is in a lot of wanna-be pretenders. Here it is soft yet full and completely unobtrusive to the flavor. This bier is medium-bodied and right on target.

Drinkability – I grabbed this big, yeasty bottle as a snack instead of a bag of chips. It is just as filling, much healthier, and tasted a hell of a lot better. I’ll nurse this through the afternoon, letting it warm to room temperature before starting on the New Year’s festivities.

Update – I rated this 2003 vintage on New Year’s Day ’04. I thought, now that a year has passed, I’ll re-review it with an ’04 vintage to see how it has withstood the test of time.

This is just a lovely example of the style by any measure. Brewed in the “oldest brewery in the world” just outside of Munich, this Bavarian import brings all the authentic Dunkel Weizen flavors right to your living room. The aroma is so dead-on for the style that they ought to have a picture of it on the BJCP style guide page. It is easily the most authentic Dunkles that I’ve had here in the US, and rivals most that I enjoyed in Germany.

Review #100! Pours a swamp-like hybrid color, dark copper and dark tan, opaque and murky with an off-white head that plumps up big time and looks super thick and creamy. The head is long lasting and easy to conjure up from nothing due to the volatile nature of the brew. Nose hits just like you'd expect with an initial bubblegum hint, quickly surrounded by clove and some other kitchen spices, maybe coriander. Both malty and fruity on the tongue - bananas are, of course, the most prevalent, followed by plums and grapes. Yeast sinks into the tastebuds and provides a nice, toasted-bread-like backbone for the sweet fruity malts to stand upon. No real apparent bitterness here, and hops aren't noticeable unless you try extremely hard (and even then, it's probably all in your mind). But this brew was meant for the malt! Thin-medium body with a great deal of carbonation, leaving a nice snap on the tongue up front and through the finish.

Another amazing brew by Weihenstephaner. Hits all the marks and traits you'd expect from a hefeweissbier - bananas, cloves, breads, yeast, toasty malts, etc. Remains simple while exceeding at everything it does. This is a must-try, and the best part is that it's readily available in most places.

Poured into a Widmer hefe glass. Looks a dark brown, cola color with a huge tan head that stick around and millions of bubbles.

Classic aroma of banana and clove, but has an added maltiness that really takes it to the next level.

Slightly sweet, toasty caramel bounces in and out of the flavor into the finish and fade. Soft with subtle spice character to compliment the malt. Fantastic!

A- Caramelized brown color, thick creamy sea-foam head.

S- Sweet fruits up front, malty caramel undertones and, of course, light banana cloves.

T- Sweet wheaty flavor with roasted and toffee essences, sour barely at the end. I can hardly believe how well balanced and tasty this is!

M. good mouth feel, a little dry, but all around full body.

D- Pretty filling, but i still prefer it over a regular hefeweisser.

This is one of my new all-time favorites. Drink up!

Pours a murky brownish color, looks like apple cider. Fluffy head, no lacing (what am I doing wrong?). Cloves, banana dominate in the smell. NIce wheat beer flavor, again with a bananas and a medicinal cloviness (is that a word) dominating. Mouthfeel is smooth, but seems a bit thin. This is a pretty good brew, I could drink a couple pints of this no prob.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a Weizen Glass. The abv is listed on the label at 5.3% and there is no freshness date.

Appearance: It has a deep hazy orange amber body with visible carbonation. A quick pour fills the glass with foam. After a minute to settle I very slowly finished pouring and ended up with a nice three finger head. The light beige head hangs on well and makes lots of cool lace patterns on the glass.

Smell: Big German yeast notes rush up to fill my nose. The aroma is all about the classic banana notes with some mild clove and bready sweet malt.

Taste: The best way to describe this beer is that is like banana bread with nuts and chocolate chips. The palate is a firm medium body with nice active carbonation.

Notes: Outstanding!!! This beer is a work of wheat beer art.

Pours a very dark amber with a massive head that takes several minutes to subside. Very sticky lacing down the glass. Aroma is sweet bready yeast and some fruits. Taste follows the aroma with a certain brown sugar taste to it. Nice interplay of the sweets with the fruit. Mouthfeel is very good and beer is very drinkable. You could session this beer very easily.

500ml bottle poured into a Stella challis.

A - Huge, pillowy eggcream white 4-finger head that falls slowly, leaving rings around the glass. Cloudy and dark dried apricot orange.

S - Ripe bananas on the pour. Banana custard in the glass. Bazooka bubblegum. Hints of clove, dense and moist fresh bread, and lightly toasted malt.

T - Whole grain banana bread with a good touch of clove along the sides of the tongue, providing a great balance between sweet and spice. Sweetness of a thick banana and caramel cream with wafers dessert lingers on the finish, but it's not cloying. Spend some time between sips and tastes like peaches and nutmeg appear.

M - Somewhat fizzy, with a smoothness that follows. Good carbonation. Excellent body for the style. Refreshingly snaps off at the swallow. Finish is longer than expected, and a tad dryer than the sweetness of the taste suggests it would be.

D - This is one very delicious dunkel. I'd love to find this on tap someday, or pair it with some grilled brats and sauerkraut. Has all the exceptional quality of its regular brother with a bit more character. I could easily drink several of these and still wish for just one more. Simply outstanding.
