2nd of the five bottles of the gift pack. Poured the 500ml into traditional hefeweizen glass that came with the pack. Excellent, though not as inviting as Hefeweissbier.

Pours with a huge three-four finger thick off white head. Has good retention. Decent lacing. Color is copper-brown. Against the light, the top is darker compared to the bottom. A lot of cloudiness as is typical of wheat beers. Not very dark. Slightly less number of bubbles.

Smell is more banana and cloves, with the former dominating. Slight hints of dark malt and some sweetness. This one is more banana than hefeweissbier.

Taste is very much similar to the nose, with dominant wheat beer taste. Slight hop presence. Bready taste. Not a lot of sweetness. Overall taste is well balanced. No hints of roasted malts.

Mouth feel: Light to medium bodied feel. Moderate on carbonation makes it much more drinkable. Refreshing but not as much as its hefeweissbier brother.

Overall style wise it scores 4.25-4.5 Personally It is a good beer but nothing that i am a fan of. I did not like it much. 3.5

Amber and brown in color with a slight chill haze. Poured with a huge, billowy off-white foam with excellent staying power that leave thick sheets of lacings on the glass. Sweet banana and clove aromas with an earthy sweet toasted malt aroma beneath. Creamy smooth delicate feel with a clean crisp finish. Combination of sweet banana and light toasted malt flavors up front followed by spicy clove flavors through the middle that usher in a light hop bitterness toward the end. Like the feel the flavors finish clean and crisp with a sweet fruity banana aftertaste. Fabulous, earthy, delicate aromas, flavors and feel.

A: Pours a hazy medium brown in color with some golden and orange highlights when held up to the light and moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a three finger tall beige head that reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer evenly and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of banana and clove along with some lighter notes of wheat, darker malts, yeast, and spices.

T: Tastes very similar to the smell with wheat and darker malts upfront and moderate to strong flavors of banana, clover, yeast, and spices.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Refreshing and smooth.

O: Enjoyable and extremely easy to drink - sessionable and refreshing.

Drank from a one pint, 0.9 fl.oz. bottle purchased at Cambridge Wine & Spirits, Cambridge, MA
Served in a weizen glass

The initial pour yielded a hazy, copper-mahogany body that was topped by a five-finger, light tan, billowing crop of foam. The head was super dense and creamy and it deposited drippy patches of lacing along the glass. When the sediment was added to the beer it became turbid. A dramatic plume of yeast cascaded down through the liquid, reminding me of when cream is slowly added to iced coffee.

The nose was fantastic. Spice notes dominated. Clove, nutmeg and allspice were quite apparent. Crisp, powdery and yeasty. Bubblegum came through strong. Semi-sweet overall. A hint of smoke was noticeable as well.

The flavor profile was a half step below the aroma but very impressive nonetheless. Like the nose, the it too was very spicy. Clove and nutmeg were the most dominant spice notes. The beer was wheaty and tart in the center. Yeasty and phenolic with strong bubblegum and banana notes. The finish was crisp and dry. Supremely balanced and drinkable. Toward the end of the glass, some earthy hops began to appear.

The mouthfeel was super slick and creamy. Lighter bodied but remarkably smooth.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel is an outstanding offering from an fantastic brewery. I love finding beers this good that are neither expensive nor that difficult to come across.
