Poured this bottle into a proper weissbeer glass. The beer was a hazy brownish apricot color with a massive billowy, creamy head. The nose offered bananas, toast, lemon, and apple.

The flavor started out a mild, bready, honey-like maltiness and quickly developed into tart, fruity, spicy flavors of apple and pear with a touch of clove and toffee. It is wonderfully refreshing and balanced with the perfect hop accompaniment. This is by no means a palate-wrecker. It leaves you thirsty for more. Mouthfeel was thin-to-firm and ideal for this style.

Overall, this was a terrific beer. It's just like the regular hefeweiss (which is a classic brew), but with a toffee-like hint to the flavor.

Bottle purchased from Hyvee in West Omaha, NE
No obvious bottled on date, just a "0291" code.
Poured into a Weihenstephaner weizen glass.

Pours a huge head that requires multiple small pours to fit the entire beer into the glass. Head composed of small bubbles, very dense foam, almost meringue-like when it dries out upon hitting air. Maintains a 1cm head throughout, but as it descends initially, there's some nice lacing that's left. Leaves lacing with each swirl and sip, too. Body is a hazy, brown color, but when held up to a light source, it's dark copper with yellow highlights. Carbonation is steady and substantial, supporting the consistent layer of foam.

Aroma of ripe bananas, banana bread, bosc pears, yeast, clove, and allspice. Dominance of malt, phenols, and esters in this beer, slightly heavier and "darker" than the hefeweizen. Trace flavors could be a bit more pronounced, but otherwise, really solid.

Opens with mild malt sweetness on tip of tongue. Mid-tongue reveals the depth of flavor, including banana bread dough, toasted malt, allspice, and yeast. Making way to the back of the tongue reveals a bit of tartness beginning on the transition to finish, fading to brown malt sweetness meets clove/allspice. Lingering aftertaste of semi-sweetness, clove/banana/yeast mashup. Good, could be slightly more expressive in the front.

Medium-bodied throughout, with a modest amount of carbonation that feels as if from "small" bubbles. That is, not an explosion of easily felt, painful carbonation in the mouth. This generally gives the feel of "softness" and "smoothness" on the palate. Finish is dry.

Overall, one of the better dunkelweizens I've had. May prefer the hefeweizen over this, but still quite good.

On tap at the Braustuberl Weihenstephaner, Freising and poured into the appropriate 0.3l glass with a couple of fingers head

Dark to mid/nutty brown in colour (there wasn't much lighting in the cellar room we were in, so difficult to be precise on this one!)

Full of flavour with banana, cloves other spices and a malty/bready taste, and possibly a small hint of caramel/something sweet?

Malty, slightly spiced and banana were the smells that hit me

The mouthfeel was good, but not up to the same quality of the hefeweiss, still a pleasure to drink none the less

kept a good finger of head throught drinking and lots of lacing present at the finish

Pours out a cloudy, nutty brown with a creamy tanned head. Smells like banana nut bread with cloves. Little toastiness too. Tastes like banana nut bread too. Little bit of sweetness in the finish. Creamy, fluffy mouthfeel. As always, Weihenstephaner puts out another stellar beer.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass.

Look- dark amber color, maybe a little murky, with about two or two and a half fingers' worth of foam that dissipates somewhat quickly.

Smell - exactly as it's described. It smells like a Bavarian hefeweizen, but darker due to notes of caramel or something along those lines maybe.

Taste - very interesting taste! Not at all what I was expecting. It does still have that Bavarian feel to it, but it's spicier than I would have imagined it to be. It's not wild and crazy though. The purity laws would prevent that.

Mouthfeel - very well balanced brew, not too far on the side of watery or creamy.

Overall - very good brew that fits exactly with the style.

A - Hazy nut brown color with a cream colored head that sticks around for a long time and leaves great lacing.

S - Yeast, wheat, toasted malt, bread and banana and bubble gum yum!

T - Great taste of predominately banana and bubble gum which is balanced out by bready yeast, toasted malt and some wheat. A great example of the style with tons of flavor.

M - Medium bodied, with medium carbonation, you can almost feel a bit of texture to this beer, definitely not watery.

O - Just a very solid beer that should please all beer lovers and even none beer lovers. Great beer for any time of year and any occasion.
