A 500ml bottle with a best before date of 16th September 2015 and poured into a weizen glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a hazy copper colour with a nice three finger cream head that stuck around for a long time leaving some spotty lacing.

Aroma: Mainly caramelised banana with hints of bready malts, caramel and a tinge of pear.

Taste: Bready malt base followed by ripe banana, bubblegum and caramel. Hints of grape and raisin in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium crisp carbonation.

Overall: A very nice dunkelweizen that is very easy to drink. I would buy this again if it was available in Hong Kong, but for now, I will just have to keep bringing it back from Thailand and South Korea. (709 characters)

Nice light brown colour, but the layer of foam is not that impressive. A nose with banana and cloves which continues in the taste, although the clove prevails here. Very balanced and superbly smooth. Well done. (210 characters)

Taste: bubblegum, great wheat base, well developed malt
Feel: light to medium bodied, but the carbonation adds a deep chewiness.

Overall: One of the first beers to make me obsess over beer. Still doesn't disappoint. (335 characters)

Serving Type: 500 mL Bottle

A- Light Brown/Copper pour topped by a thick white head with excellent retention.

S- Sweet Caramel, chocolate, cloves, and Banana. Classic Hefe taste with a bit of a darker chocolate taste that gives an interesting twist.

T- Sweet Caramel along with the classic Hefe Banana that is backed by a bready malt backbone. Sweetness is balanced out by clove spice.

M- Nice substantial body with fairly low carbonation. Fairly standard for a German Hefe.

O- Great German Dunkel that drinks like a dream (532 characters)

look: 5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.75

Appearance- Light brown in color and very hazy. Pours a thick, foamy, three finger tall head.

Aroma- Caramel, chocolate, banana, spice (almost cinnamon like), and a bready wheat malt.

Taste- Sweet at first with caramel and banana flavors followed by a bready malt in the middle. Towards the finish the sweetness is balanced out by spice and chocolate flavors.

Feel- Medium bodied, medium/high carbonation, and mostly clean in the finish but a little residual sweetness in here too.

Overall- Great balance, great flavor, and a great beer overall. Sometimes dunkelweizens can be too sweet, but this really blends the best parts of the caramel/chocolate off a dunkel and the banana/spice hefeweizen flavors. Neither part of the beer over powers the other. At 5.3% abv this packed with flavor and makes for a great session beer. A must try beer for the style. (865 characters)

Beautiful appearance with the amber brew topped with a fine-grained foam and swirling with suds in the Kasteel chalice. Spicy, clove-scented nose. Flavor of slightly sweet malt with the Hefeweizen flavors and a dark roasted tang. Just a slight bitter note at the finish. Delicious and light bodied for a refreshing quaff.

The Germans seem to have this creamy mouthfeel figured out. One of the pleasures of this beer is how lush and mouthfilling is is. This seems like the gold standard for the Dunkelweizen style. From the half-litre bottle purchased at a Fred Meyer supermarket in a town in northern Washington, to give you an idea how world-wide this is. (657 characters)

Bought this along with the Julius Echter of the same style to compare. Enjoyed this one more! Cloudy amber pour with offf-white sticky head - looks yummy! Aroma of ripened fruit, yeast, spices and some wheaty malt. Flavors are mostly the same, with a creamy mouthfeel. Finish is clean, soft, and mildly sweet. Very nice! (320 characters)

LOOK; Cloudy copper in a weizen glass with a rich cream colored head.
Smell; Banana, clove, dark bread. Not strong but enticing.
Taste; Banana, bread, caramel, subtle clove and hop flavors. Heaven!
Feel; Thick, moist, tingly.
Overall; I can't say that I've ever had a Weihenstephan that is less than great and this is a stellar addition. I had this years ago and proclaimed it the best beer I had ever had. Lots of competition, but it's still near the top. (460 characters)

Very tasty beer! Scents of fruitiness and hops dominate when the bottle is cracked. I smelled either hickory or some other smokey kind of scent about half way through the bottle. I tasted caramel, cinnamon, and very subtle banana bread. 30 seconds after a sip I can taste some sort of berry flavor which is sweet, like strawberries along side a gentle maltiness. Somewhat complex, and a good beer to share with a close friend at a bbq for those who like to savor a beer. Overall, very pleasant beer. My favorite so far from Weihenstephan. (538 characters)

Poured into recently bought weizen glass.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown color. A big rich off white three finger head rose above the glass and fell at a nice pace leaving some rings in a speckled sort of nice lacing.
The smell had a good amount of banana esters and a rich coffee and chocolate underneath.
The taste was mainly the same and offered a soothingly sweet rich cocoa aftertaste. The finish was semi-wet but thick.
The mouthfeel sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Sweet banana and a light spice rolls over my tongue.
Overall, this was a wonderful offering on a cold SE Alaskan Spring afternoon. (667 characters)

Purchased at the LCBO for around $3.50 for a 500ml bottle. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a high 2" white head that lasts for a few minutes. Medium brown color. Unfiltered

S- Pretty good malt.

T- Nice sweet dunkel. Good malt some hops and nice cinnamon. Good body and blend. Complex to say the least. Impressive for mass produced.

M- Creamy good

O- Nice beer. Would score higher if the metallic scent was not there. Will buy again

Food Pairing

This very good beer went well with.... BBQ'd hamburgers! Topped 'em the way you like 'em. This time it was grilled Portobello mushrooms and provolone cheese

Nose highlights lots of brown malts and fruity esters. Flavors start with a welcoming brown malty sweetness, then a sour apple fruity esters, and ends with clove spice. Minimal hop presence. Perfect level of carbonation. Clean and refreshing. (243 characters)

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel - Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan. .Poured from the bottle into a weizen glass, this beer has got a cascading four finger thick head, web-like lacing, and a clear mahogany brown body.

Smells like grainier malts, along with a touch of toffee and caramel

I taste toastier malts, a bit of raisin, and a reappearance of the aforementioned caramel.

The mouthfeel I'm picking up with this brew is clean and crisp.

Overall, I'll give Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel - Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan a 4.75. This is a very easy drinking dunkel that has just the right amount of taste. (677 characters)

A: hazy; brownish amber - like a watered down Coke; 1 finger off white head that receded slowly to a thin cap; nice lacing;

S: equal parts clove, nutmeg, and banana;

T: clove and nutmeg are predominant throughout; banana in the background at the beginning, but it becomes equal to the clove and nutmeg by the end; no bitterness;

M: light to medium bodied; high carbonation - effervescent; dry finish;

O: too much nutmeg character for my taste: (447 characters)

16.9 oz bottle poured into weizen glass. Appearance is cloudy brown that goes from diluted iced tea at the bottom to caramel at the top. A billowing tan head settles to a cap of tiny bubbles. Aroma is clove and other mulling spices, yeast, tart apple, green banana, and some sweet malt and earthy bitterness on the finish. Taste is medium banana bread sweetness initially, assertive clove spice, and light caramel on the swallow. Light-medium body, super full,creamy texture, lively carbonation, and a long mouth-coating malt and clove finish. (543 characters)

Look: cloudy amber brown with gigantic head and yeast sediment

Smell: banana, clove

Taste: orange, clove, caramel, spice, not overly sweet, hint of herbal hops toward the finish.

Feel: lots of carbonation, light body

Overall: A delicious and refreshing wheat beer, notable for its subtle balance. Rating it is hard because I don't know a lot of wheat beers and this one seems to check all the right boxes. I definitely like that it's not too sweet. That said, it didn't bowl me over - I guess it could be a matter of the style and personal preference. Also, I guess it would be better on a hot July day versus a freezing cold February night ;-) Anyway, highly recommended as an authentic German wheat beer, despite the price tag. (738 characters)

This is my 2nd offering from Weihenstephaner. Poured from bottle into an oversized pilsner glass. You can see the yeast as you pour it, which isn't always the case with inferior hefeweizen beers. Color is a cloudy amber while being poured then settles into a tobacco brown with plenty of visible yeast, and a two-finger white head that slowly dissipates with almost no lacing. Smells like wheat bread, I am not kidding. Reminded me of Sara Lee. The taste is very bready, with rich wheat flavors and little hop presence and a sweet finish. Definitely the best wheat beer I've ever had. Carbonation is lively, and doesn't feel very heavy at all. However, it is very filling, a true meal in a bottle.
