Got this beer in the pint size bottle at Dara's in Boston.

Poured into a hefe glass. Mit hefe. Great dunkel color. Copper, horizon like color and thick mocha head. This head is not going anywhere.

Smell is definately not heavy on the esters as one might expect. Very chocolate like. Some smoke and clove.

Taste follows the smell. Chocolate, smoky and some clove. Very little fruit and bananna. The malt flavor is really on display with this beer. Nice balance of thick mouthfeel and carbonation. Definately a play on the palate.

This style seems to be all over the place. From lots of ester presence to lots of malt presence and everything in between. If you like the malty emphasis, then you will like this.

500ml bottle poured into a weizen glass.

A = Milk chocolate color, light evenly hazy translucent liquid, off white head of small bubbles.

S = Bananas and milk chocolate are the predominant themes in this one. Well balanced smells.

T = Good sweet flavors of whole wheat bread, fruity banana, tart citrus. Lot of great flavors and well balanced. Only downfall is that it is a little too watery.

M = Medium bodied, good mouthcoating.

D = This is a very pleasant drinking beer, I could easily see having several of these at the biergarten.

From the 500ml bottle with no freshness date, into a pint glass a red-brown clear with moderate to low carbonation in the pour. Two-finger pale tan head fades slowly to a cap and scattered lacing. Decent looking. Nose is malty and hoppy, and average overall. Tastes crisply malty with subtle coriander spice; light by and large and not bitter at all. Mouth is semi-viscous, middle-bodied with moderate carbonation, smooth and nicely pleasing. Drinkability is decent; it’s thirst-quenching, light and refreshing in the way that most macro beers wish they were (and claim to be). Sessionable, sure, though not remarkable.

Overall: A good “dark hefe,” definitely worth a try. This would be a good one to introduce to your friends who “like hefes but not dark beers.” Yet another step on the path to great beer.

Code of 3018 stamped on back.

A- Pours a murky brown with an off white huge rocky head. I poured a bit too aggressively.

S/T- Unlike the regular Hefe, this dunkel is heavy on the banana flavor, along with wheat. It tastes like caramelized banana. It's fairly sweet overall.

M- A bit too carbonated, which I didn't find with the Hefe. A couple vigorous swirls and it works out enough of the carbonation and then you're fine.

D- Pretty tasty. I had this with smoked pulled pork sandwiches and it complemented the pork and honey bbq sauce I was using nicely.

Not sure on the date of this. Poured into an Erdinger Weissbier glass.

A - Pours a deep hazy golden brown with a great big lively head and bubbles rushing to the top of the glass. Beautiful beer in this glass.

S - Crisp citrus, roasted malts, spicy yeastyness. Smells great.

T - A bit bland, not quite what I would have expected from the nose. It's all there, just quite subdued. Tastes pretty good, dark roasted malts, a citrusy bite, some yeast. Just not as lively as the nose.

M - Medium body, very smooth and crisp. Pretty nice mouthfeel.

O (D) - I don't particularly like or know this style, but it's a pretty good beer. I would seek it out in Germany, but not in the States.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO- Decants a murky brown with orange hues as it is held up to the light. In the aroma, there is soft fruit, banana, some spice, clove, some dark fruit. Tastes of sweet banana and clove, dark fruit and a bit roasty/nutty with some yeast towards the end. Very creamy and fulfilling finish. I like this quite a bit.

Pours a ridonkulously murky oaken brown with a big, tan head. A thick ring sticks around for the entirety and leaves plenty of lacing.

The smell is malty, spicy and sweet. Definitely smells a bit like banana bread.

The flavor is fantastic. It's got the big banana and clove action from Weihen's hefeweizen, mixed with a nice rounded maltiness. Really delicious stuff. It has a good sour zing to it as well.

Mouthfeel is crisp and lively with good carbonation. Medium-bodied and dry, though not as creamy as the hefe. This is yet another killer summer beer. But shit, I'd drink it year-round.

Drinkability is as good as it gets. You'd be hard pressed to find a brewery that makes weizens as good as Weihenstephaner.

Poured from 16.9 oz bottle into weizen glass.
A: Pours a wonderful hazy brownish yellow-orange with moderate to high carbonation producing a 2-3 inch thick tight bubbly white head. Good retention.
S: Wonderful banana, yeast, clove, and malt. Simply perfection.
T: Follows aroma well...banana, clove, yeast, and malt notes. Hint of cinnamon. Very nice.
M: Medium body. Taste lingers a bit on the palate which is nice.
D: Highly, highly drinkable. A great session beer. Would love to have this fresh from the brewery. Excellent example of style.

Pours a rich creamy deep brown color. Super fluffy marshmellow sweet tannish head. Very balanced banana, toffee malt sweet smell. Taste was unbelievable. Balanced sublte hops, followed by sweet malty body of bananas, cloves, hints of vanilla, and crisp delicious wheat and malty sweet finish. Make sure you swill the bottom of the bottle to get all the yeasty goodness out. Medium to thick bodied, great finish, malty sweetness throughout. Very delicious by itself or with a meal.

music: Moke - Moke

eyes...
rice krispies snap crackle and pop head, that sticks around a bit for fun, hazy amber brown mud, dark red/brown clay, minimal lacing. nice.

nose...
sweet and grassy, some apricot notes, definite sweetness seems to be the fattest sensation, dried honeycomb, a pinch of cinnamon, smells very very good

taste etc...
the carbonation floats this one well, making the body feel medium, filling the mouth well, sligh bitter tastes are left behind inthe corners of your mouth when this one slips away, very easy drinking except maybe slightly over carbonated (burp), has a mild bannan esque flavor, oddly enough it reminds me somehow of Malheur 10... ? ?

verdict?
not totally for me, not bad, a little too fruit (sweet) like for my personal tastes.
