Tasted on tap at the Village Pub in Inglewood.

A muddy chocolate brown pour with a finger of white-colored head leads to a nose of chocolate and caramel with a vague nuttiness and also some leafy edges. On the palate, creamy malt and apricot lead to dark bread, chocolate and coconut, all tucked into the brew's overall nougaty character. The bitterness is mild while the beer dries out on the more robustly flavored dark chocolate/bran-like finish.

Overall, one of my favorite CalfKillers so far- easy-going and very sessionable. Without a doubt, these guys are the best up-and-coming brewery in mid-TN. Their best brews seem to have that chewy, creamy nougaty malt up front, while closing dry and crisp with a very bran/flaky-dry maltiness. Bars serving CalfKiller now define where I drink in Nashville.

Growler fill from FMcD in Nashville. Poured into NB globe glass.

My first foray into this type of beer (that I know of). Had this beer multiple times but never had a chance to review til now. Pours dark, a deep amber color when held to the light. A thin brown bubbly head dissipates pretty quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Smells great, dried fruit, caramelized brown sugar, heavy malty goodness!

Tastes even better than it smells. Typical brown ale flavors, nutty, malty, but also hints of chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Dried dark cherries, almost smoky. I'll have to sample other versions of this style b/c to me this has to be one of the best.

This beer looks like it could be heavy but isn't. It's pretty light bodied but leaves a nice little coating after swallowing. Somewhat frothy but not overly carbonated. Very satisfying, a great fall beer.

Overall, another great example of why Calfkiller is my new favorite brewery. Can't seem to get enough from these guys.

I had this on-tap at the Mellow Mushroom in Franklin, TN.

A: Poured a dark, amber color, with a mild translucence, and a good bit of chill haze. The head was about 1/8 finger or a tinge more.

S: Sort of like a brown ale, with a bit of toffee character, slightly grainy, and with a fresh filtered water undertow.

T: Not quite as full as an American Brown Ale, but afterall, this wasn't meant to be American by any means. Grainy, caramely, nutty, and with sort of a sugary disposition given the style.

M: I personally though this was too sweet to be a highly drinkable brew, but that's just me. There was virtually no lacing, and it had a mildly bitter finish.

O: This should have been gulpable, but I struggled through my pint a bit. Others on here seem to have liked it better than me. I guess I should try it again someday.

Had this on tap at the Bearden Beer Garden in Knoxville, TN. Pours very murky and almost a purplish brown color. I am not sure what style this is supposed to be but it seems like a mix of several. There was a definite Belgian character to this whether it was the yeast or maybe some candi sugar or something. Tasted pretty good overall. Aroma were slightly sweet and Belgian like with some cloviness. Flavors were pretty tight as well. A definite change of pace and a decent beer.
