Growler fill @ Frugal McD's. Got the last of the keg too. Poured into NB Globe glass.

A: Hazy, cloudy, deep copper and orange. Great looking beer, resembles the look of a heavy IPA.

S: Orange citrus, grass, biscuity malt. A good overall hop essence, not too strong but noticeable.

T: Well balanced hop flavor that doesn't disappoint. Great aftertaste, bittersweet, sticky, fruity, and floral. Hops are not overpowering which allows other flavors to compliment the beer.

M: Smooth, slick, light bodied with medium carbonation. A nice mix of creamy froth without being too heavy.

O: This brewery is amazing. Really glad they made it to Nashville. Grassroots is a great pale ale and represents the style perfectly.

Pours a hazy, dark gold or orange color. The head is 2 fingers high, tan, with very good lace. Aromas are of grassy hops and spicy citrus, like orange peel.

The taste has a moderate bitterness with a crisp, citrus flavor. A light sweetness from the pale malts makes for a nice balance. Carbonation is fairly high with a medium body. Finish is clean, with an aftertaste of spices and hop bitterness.

Overall this is a very good pale ale -- flavorful without being too heavy handed on the hops. A good session beer to pass an evening with.

a well made and tasty, if quite generic american pale ale. i like a lot of whats going on here, and think its a fine example of the style, but it blends into the crowd way too much to hold my attention longer than a pint. the pour is unimpressive. the color is nice, but the yellow beer goes all the way up to the rim of the glass. no head at all. this could be as much the bartender as the beer itself, but thats not the best presentation in the world. it smells and tastes pretty hoppy, with a mix of higher alpha C varietals and something a little more european and grassy, even spice for a minute in the finish before the bitterness takes it over. grain base is really simple, mostly or entirely pale two row base malt, without any wrinkles presenting themselves to me here. carbonation is sub par, but the beer has a drinkable lightness and cleanness to it that flatter the style. my first beer from these guys looks like one of their more elementary ones, and it was quite refreshing, but i want to try some of their others. who knew tennessee had such a vibrant craft scene?
