Rogue Harbor's Rye IPA has a brownish orange body and a thin, light tan head that is made up of tightly clustered bubbles and is quite creamy looking. The retention is pretty good, and the lacing on the glass is very nice.
The aroma has a lot of seedy, bready rye to it, with a noticeable hop kick.
The taste is pretty close to the aroma, making for a pretty good rye beer. Hops come through right away, with resin and pine making up most of the flavor, with a good bit of bitterness to back it up. Just a hint of grapefruit joins the hop profile as well. The malt takes over next, with a little bit of sweetness and a noticeable amount of caramel. A lot of bread flavors enter into the mix as well. There is some seedy, spicy rye mixes with more traditional bread flavors.
The mouthfeel is smooth and substantial feeling.
This is a really solid rye beer/IPA that balances a generous helping of rye with a good bit of hops. Other malts are used, but the rye is the undoubtedly the star of this one. It could have been added as a rye beer or an IPA, but I went with IPA. The fact that IPA is in the name convinced me that IPA was the style while rye was an ingredient.
