Thanks Steasy66!
Appearance. Pours black with 2.5 fingers of khaki head that never really settles to less than half a finger.
Smell. Bourbon and raisins, light sourness, and some decent barrel notes. Hmm, smells infected.
Taste. Acidity seems out of place, going to have to say this one's infected. Some dark fruits and chocolate, a bit of bourbon and wood. Hard to get past this acidity.
Mouthfeel. Thin and watery ...probably due to the infection. Medium+ carbonation.
Overall. Not good at all. Hopefully this isn't what the brewer intended, with the acidity I think not.

Found this bottle hanging around suspiciously a while back, picked it up, & relocated it to the fridge. Finally getting around to it. 750ML swing-top bomber with a thin line of tap to keep the top swung in the proper direction.
Top popped with a minor explosion. Predictably, the beer pours hot, & I have to be delicate to keep the fizz in the glasses. Given the 'cask' in the name I guess I assume this would be tamer in the carbonation category. Dark. Scent is drifting between 'odd' & 'off'. No bourbon, just a bit of spruce mixed with rain-pattered earth. Hmmm.
Ode to a Russian Shipwright - Bourbon Cask Aged is like watching beautiful twins bloody one another. The bourbon is there, the spruce is there, but the combination feels like a horror flick taking place in my mouth...blech. The huge carbonation of Ode is here too, & it's not helping. I feel like I'm going to have to get up & belch in the middle of the night after just a few sips.
Olvalde's first miss for me. I don't know if this is an off bottle or the flavors just didn't work for me. I was really looking forward to it, but it's downright awful. Sad sigh.

2013 Vintage
A= Pours a deep black color with an average looking brown head that rises to a finger and holds pretty steady there. There is some spotty lacing.
S= The smell has a definite bourbon aroma with a little oak in there. There is a nice sort of juniper spice from the original ode. A nice dark roasty malt aroma comes through as well.
T= The taste is again a nice bourbon flavor which I notice first. The bourbon is about perfect in this. It isn't overpowering and lets the juniper as well as the roasty malt come through while still coming through. This is about as perfect as the mix of bourbon and beer can get.
M= Super smooth and creamy.
O= This beer is a supriser. I liked the original ode and for some reason didn't think this would be as good. I was wrong. This beer is wonderful. A great mix of bourbon and a wonderful beer. Get this beer if you see it it's worth it.
