On tap during the 1st Anniversary party.
Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a hazy amberish orange with a thin white head which leaves spotty lace.

N: Very muted floral and citrus (grapefruit) along with some herbal notes. Perhaps served and consumed too cold.

T: Nice sticky pine followed by citrus and some sweet malts. Well balanced.

M: Medium body and semi-moderate carbonation. Dry and bitter finish.

O: Enjoyed on a warm afternoon. Easy drinking.

Consumed at LAB Brewing Company, Moorpark CA on May 28th, 2012.

Beer is a clear, medium amber/orange. A very fine head contributes to excellent sheeting.

Oddly, not much aroma from the pint. Some hard to define citrus.

A dash of sweet malt up front before strong, prickly pine resin and bitter oranges obliterate it. Malts show up again briefly as a nebulous sweetness, but flavor quickly segues to parching and dry at the end. VERY bitter as it lingers on the palate for a week after each sip. Massive amount of flavor.

In the mouth, the beer is well-carbonated, lively and slightly oily.

Another West Coast hop bomb. I did not finish my pint (really a 12 ounce pour). I didn't enjoy this one in any way, though it's probably executed exactly as intended.

On tap at Enegren Brewing Company in Moorpark, CA.

Pours a slightly hazy copper orange with a 1/2 inch foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thin rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt and some citrus zest and herbal hop aromas. Taste is of citrus zest, grapefruit, herbal hops, with a nice malt backbone. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel and a medium body. Overall, this is a very good DIPA with a nice hop presence in the flavor.

So from what I've read, this beer is aptly named in honor of a recently passed K9 of one of the owners/brewers for the protection he/she provided to them over the years. This tasting was from batch one, from the first keg sold out of the brewery, purchased at "Lemmos Grill" on a sunny afternoon.

A: Served in a Samuel Adam’s perfect pint glass, this Imperial IPA pours a cloudy & hazy bright orange copper color with a healthy two inches of foamy, creamy, beige colored head that leaves swaths of generous lacing. The head faded slowly, and clung to the side of the glass as it dissipated, but eventually settled into a healthy quarter inch of foam bubbles resting on top of the beer.

S: The initial aroma’s are floral hops, caramel, and sweet malt. The aroma's are fairly well balanced. Ranging from orange peel, grapefruit, juicy pineapple, pine needles, with strong but balanced sweet caramel malt in the background as a backbone.

T: The taste mirrors the nose beautifully, and starts off with the floral hops on the draw, followed by tropical fruits, juicy grapefruit, orange, and pineapple, a kiss of toffee and solid caramel malt in the middle, ending with a medium bite of bitterness on the finish. The alcohol barely registers in the warming, and is well hidden while sipping, adding to the balance of the beer.

M: Mouthfeel is medium to full in body , medium carbonation, with great head retention.

O: A nice refreshing sipper on a hot day. It is well balanced, and has a lot of complexity going on for it. Easy beer to sip and savor, and for the first run, of their first beer, on new equipment, I'm gleefully looking forward to picking up a growler of this very soon.
