Near black in colour, off white head with little in the way of lace. Smell is of belgian yeast, dark fruit, plum and a bit of raisin as well, a bit of bittersweet chocolate and some coffee are there to weigh in for the stout side of things here. Taste is roasty with belgian yeast, a little bit of tart funk from the yeast come across as well, dark fruit and a bit of chocolate, light bitter coffee and chocolate in the aftertaste. Light carbonation, medium body, decent feel. Not bad, certainly something that tasted much better than the nose suggests, didn't realize it was 6.5% thought it was maybe around 4.5-5%, I may have this again at some point but nothing I was too crazy about to order repeats of.

Dark side Day at Bar Hop. Expecting a sweet stout, I got a black body with a little head. A dry stout, some sugar. Not so drinkable.A little roasty aroma.A bit above average mouthfeel. Somewhat chalky and ashtray. I would like something a lot cleaner.

On-tap at Sessions 99 festival. Interested to try this one, being a fan both of Spearhead's Hawaiian IPA and Belgian Stouts.
Beer is black with a small tan head. Smell contains Belgian yeast, some dark fruit, a bit of candied fruit, fig and plum. Certainly more "Belgian" than stout.
Taste brings the stout equation into the mix. Roasted malt, dark fruit, plum. Fairly bitter.
Medium bodied, low carbonation.
Overall, OK. Sort of disappointing. I will give this one another chance for sure, but I wasn't thrilled on the first go round.

From notes taken earlier tonight at imbibe in Kitchener, although Kick-Off has said they will also have a keg tapped later this week...
A thin near-black pour with the minimal chocolate-coloured head disappearing quickly. A promising aroma that is more chocolate malt-forward than Belgian, with all the roasted malt that entails. The taste also enjoys many positive stout characteristics revolving around roasted and toasted dark malts, but there is an undeniable "Belgian yeast" to the finish, that lingers long after the last sip.
Although well brewed and exactly as the moniker promises; it’s more interesting than I'd expected, but Belgians will never be my first choice.

A coffee dark brew with next to no head and no lace.
Lots of chocolate and charcoal both in the nose and to taste. Tarry. Too much burn I think to be really enjoyable. Some caramel sweetness as it starts to warm up. Soft to drink on the palate.
Too one dimensional. Too much char.
