Wow, lots going on here. Pours a fairly lighter orange than expected, with citrus flavors upfront, pine in the middle and a bitter/dry back-end. For whatever reason, a lot of the double IPAs I've tasted of late have gone a similar route. Would have liked the citrus flavor to stay on throughout; the fact that the flavor drops out near the back end is a bit of a red flag for me. Mouthfeel and carbonation are moderate; overall not a bad DIPA, but not necessarily something I'd seek out again.

Kind of your typical IPA. Nothing special or new to stand out. By no means a bad beer, but with the glut of better beers on the market for cheaper, not one I'll be returning to soon.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Deep opaque amber orange, with a little bit of rising carbonation, and also a bit noticeable. Head is relatively small, manages at least slightly larger than two fingers, and has very good retention. Soft white in color, with some creamy character and island puck appearances, with ring like lacing as well. Decent looking IPA.

Aroma takes a turn for hop bomb, but manages excellent balance with some distinct characters. Creamy vanilla aromas and mild sweet malts, with sensing amounts of caramel and icing sugar. Hop angle goes for subtlety with slightly dank, slightly juiced but with a tea like earthy quality. Inviting, not large, but also buried.

The first taste is quite surprising as a quick biscuit malt hits the palate at first. This is quickly knocked down with a sharp hop cutting through nicely in the middle, juiced but also pine and very dry like in flavor. Lots of sharp tea and similar qualities with a very light body passing over the tongue. Finishes with a nice mix of powdered dry grain malt and flour, with a large hop bent, that accents much of the tea and dry herbal angles present. Big leafy herbs and slight orange on the finish as well, just a touch of toast in a style that doesn't exhude malt character which is a nice surprise.

Real interesting take on a large DIPA for a change. Not mind blowing, but definitely in a unique realm all it's own.

Bottled dated 7/13/17, meaning it was bottled on 7/13/15; drank on 10/17/15 in a tulip glass; not sure I would want this beer to age an extended period of time

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellowish orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high off white head that died down, consistently leaving a thin head covering the surface and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderately strong aromas of grapefruit are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of orange citrus and grapefruit along with hints of pine and a moderate amount of bitterness. The orange flavors linger through the finish, when slight hints of alcohol also appear.
M: It feels medium-bodied, crisp and a little dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a rather bold IPA that packs in a lot of citrusy aromas and flavors along with a substantial amount of hop bitterness. The alcohol is mostly well masked from the taste.

A: Pours a slightly hazy apricot to peach in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some orange + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to large patch of thick film in the center of the beer with an extremely thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit hops with some lighter aromas of tropical/mango hops.

T: Upfront there is a light amounts of malts with hints of caramel sweetness that is followed by moderate to strong flavors of citrus/orange, citrus/grapefruit, tropical/mango, and pine hops. Light to moderate flavors of bitterness which lingers. Very light hints of alcohol in the finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with light amounts of dryness.

O: There are rather intense flavors and aromas of hops with fairly aggressive amounts of bitterness and a hint of booze making this beer not the easiest to drink. Very enjoyable and one I would like to have again.

An excellent IPA, and one with a little different flavor profile as well. Pours beautifully- a classic IPA color and head with excellent lacing. Smells a bit grainy, but that isn't reflected in the taste. There are also nice grassy, herbal, and citrus aromas. The taste starts very herbal, and a bit grassy, transitions to citrus, and ends with a big blast of bitter pine. There is enough malt to support the hops, but not make it sweet. A great IPA.

Best before 05-02-16, so i'd say it's fairly fresh. Sure smells like it, right after popping the cap.
Pours hazy orange, building up a rich two finger and a half fluffy white head that doesn't rush anywhere. Later on a thin cap remains and a very sticky lace.
There's a perfect marriage of citrus and pine in the smell, all atop quite a lot of caramel, with some sweet tropical fruit (papaya, pineapple, faint lychee and mango) and orchard fruit (apricot, peach, pear). This should be great.
Huge pineapple in the front, probably the clearest i've found in a beer, followed by tons of bitter citrus, like grapefruit and lemon peel, getting sweeter in a flash second, with tangerines, pomelo, limes, also some peach and perfumey mango. Nice caramel helps the sweetness, also some honey with quite a lot of floral notes. Big green notes, like pine resin, weed, hop oils, a huge fresh leafiness follows, and sweeps away any sweetness, giving room to a huge, dry, spicy bitterness.
Medium body and carbonation, creamy, almost oily. Fitting for such a rich heavy IIPA. Aftertaste is a hop nuke fallout, leaving nice fruitiness and big bitter green notes. You don't have time to feel any alcohol.
A rollercoaster, with a big surprising complexity, but in the end perfectly balanced, great flavours, incredible hops.

On tap at When Pigs Fly. In a snifter the beer was a hazy orange color with a small white head. Still, there was a good deal of lace.

Aroma of citrus, pine, and caramel. Very pleasant.

The taste was even better than the aroma promised. Caramel up front, then grapefruit and orange. Some mango. Later the piney hops appeared.

A hoppy beer, but nicely balanced.

I enjoyed this beer, and hope it lasts for a while at the restaurant.

Appearance: murky, pale orange with a fine, tan head that has several minutes retention

Aroma: bright citrus - orange, with pineapple, kiwi; a nice mix of sweet, tart, and exotic; floral too, and honey; bitter resin lingers in the background

Taste & Mouthfeel: intense spruce-flavoured bitterness gives a solid burn with only hints of citrus presented in the aroma making it's way to the palate; pithy and heading towards window-cleaner territory, especially in the finish - that of course goes on forever; smooth, medium body; it's like licking the sap off pine needles

Overall: too bad the taste is such a departure from the tantalizing aroma, it had hints of being great, which makes me think this may have been had too long after bottling (another possible casualty of the LCBO); would give it another go given the chance
