This beer is exceptional in many ways. I'm very surprised that no one has mentioned its Belgian Ale qualities. It has the sweet tropical fruit smell and flavor, along with bubblegum, which I've never tasted in a beer that doesn't use Belgian yeast. I really enjoy the hop flavors: it's an explosion of light, smooth fruitiness without the tongue-numbing Pine-Sol experience of so many DIPA's. It's gotten pretty warm and the bitterness has become much more apparent, but I'm still going back for more sips after each sentence I write. My main complaint is the low head retention, but the scorching heat in my room today may have affected that. Super deal for $6.74.

The color is that of ripe apricot, bright orange with a heavy cloudiness. The off-white head is small but has a thickness and substantial body to what it does have. Lace is tight, thick spotting in just less than moderation. The aroma is light, but some warming brings out citrus, pith and zest mostly, caramel, and an interesting note of something like bark. This is, overall, a strange beer. Pith and dry (old?) orange peel meet caramel, dandelion, herb, bark and nut with lots of oddly roasty bread. The feel is definitely the strong point of this beer. It has a delicate but firm fluffy and soft sort of creaminess resting lightly on the tongue, balanced by consistent crispness with a bite that's not too hard but doesn't back down either. Pith dries the finish out some.

Poured on tap into a shorty pilsner glass at Barley Brother's. From notes.
Pale amber body, with slight orange apricot colors, some slight cloudy character and served with a thin white collar. Lots of spider lacing while drinking.
Absolutely dead and closed nose. While nothing faulty or offensive there is nothing here. But for an IPA you have to bring it, and this is empty and void of any hop sensations whatsoever.
First sip are definitely malt forward and the most noticeable thing going on in this beer. Finish and aftertaste bring no sense of any hop bitterness whatsoever. I am really searching here. Some chewy leaf like texture and a pretty solid juicy mouthfeel but it's as the hop flavor was stripped out. Some weird flavors on the finish that come out more like fruit additions than hop aromas, apple juice, tangerine, and nuts.
Overall this is just one of the weirdest IPAs I've had in a long time. Nothing awful, but nothing really that great either and just plain bizarre and missing hops.
