Bottled in 2012 (the label does not provide the month or date).
A: A slow pour into a standard pint glass produced a very large, three finger head that a dark mocha color and very dense. After a few minutes the head dissipated to about an eighth of a finger and left some good lacing. The brew was a deep brown and opaque.
S: The aroma was full of rich chocolate, toasted barley and grains, and dark dried fruits.
T: The taste consisted of charred barley, some toasted grains, dark dried fruit, and just a bit of unsweetened chocolate along with just a little earthy hops.
M: The body was full, rich, and heavy, and very smooth, too. It only had a small amount of carbonation, which was just about right for this beer.
O: This was a good porter. Its defining flavor was charred barley. The char went just a little too far for my tastes, and, it did not have any malt sweetness to help balance all the char bitterness. This is a little bit of a different type of porter due to all the char flavor. It is an okay porter, but it is not one that is in the top tier of the very competitive craft brew market. Still, I am glad I had this beer and I will probably have it again.

Appearance: Pours out almost pitch black with a frothy tan head that leaves a very streaky pattern of lace
Smell: Surprisingly ashy, with chocolate and coffee tones
Taste: Ash, chocolate and coffee, up front, with the hops building into the finish with a leafy, resinous character
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A surprising hop bite for this style, but I rather enjoyed it
Thanks, Dave_Treat, for the opportunity

12oz can. Pours a brownish black with an inch of brown head. Good amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and earth. The taste is more of those roasty malts followed by some coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Hints of smoke. Roasted malts and earth at the finish with some more bitter dark chocolate. Velvety, slick mouthfeel. Very drinkable. Overall, this is a solid Porter I'll be buying again.
