Notes/Commercial Description:
The Corruption™ IPA is DC Brau's take on a Pacific Northwest IPA. Brewed with Pale 2 row, C-10, Honey and Victory malts. Exclusively hopped with 40 lbs of Columbus hops per brew to ring in at 80 IBU. "The Corruption" comes in at 6.5% ABV. This beer straddle's the line between IPA and Imperial IPA and has a supportive malty backbone with an assertive hop presence that smacks your mouth with a dank, resinous bitterness followed by pleasant aroma's of pine sap and burnt spruce.

A: Pours a very hazy burnt orange color. The medium-sized, orange-tinted head has a dense, frothy texture. Retention is good, and some nice rings and splotches of lacing stick to the glass.

S: Big notes of resin, pine, and citrus (orange and grapefruit). Some funky/herbal tones are also present. I'm not surprised to learn that this beer uses Columbus hops. Hop aroma is at the fore, but there's a fairly firm caramel and toasted bread aroma as well, for the style. Some esters are also noticeable, giving off a bit of a raw, yeasty character.

T: Some light toastiness and moderate caramel sweetness up front. A bit maltier than many IPAs. Hop bitterness is blunt and assertive, with big pine resin, grapefruit pith, and complex herbal flavors. Sticky hop notes linger for a long while, eventually fading into some fruity ester flavor and a biting aftertaste.

M: Rather full-bodied. Some medium initial sweetness is quickly overcome by a cascade of hop bitterness, leading to the expected dry finish. There is a coating feel to the aftertaste.

O: This is a good, rough-around-the-edges brawler of an IPA. It's definitely not a West Coast-style IPA, thanks to the fairly robust maltiness and murky, estery character. Columbus hops offer a diverse and complex array of aromas and flavors, with a slightly blunt finishing effect. This is a welcome addition to DC's lacking microbrew lineup.
