Notes/Commercial Description:
The Citizen Belgian Ale is inspired by the timeless Tripel style ales of Belgium. Using a traditional high gravity "Abbey" yeast strain that encourages the production of highly palatable ethanol notes supported by Aromatic and "The Citizen" also exhibits the noble hop spiciness that is common to most Belgian Ales. Reigning in at 7.0% ABV this is the Brau's strongest offering in our flagship portfolio. Become a Citizen of the world, one sip at a time!

A- Orange body with some amber highlights. A slight haze to the body that prevents crystal-clear transparency, but enough for light to come through. Head is thin and frothy, with a cream color to it.

S- Banana, clove, herbal hops, toast, bready malt.

T- Taste has a pretty diverse mix of flavors to it. The yeast comes in first with some peppery notes, the big toasted malt bill provides lots of breadiness, with banana flavors sneaking in towards the end. Slight mix of herbal hops in the, with a hint of citrus as well.

M- Crisp, medium-full bodied, sticky lingering aftertaste. Finishes dry.

O- The yeast and the malt dominate this one. It's very different than almost all of the BPAs I have had, but not necessarily in a bad way. It's just different. I probably would not get it again, but I didn't hate it.

Surprised to find something this good in a can!

The malt sweetness and yeast hits right away. A little bit of honey and citrus aroma. Heavy but went down easily despite the 7% ABV. Mouthfeel a bit "sticky" for lack of a better word. Could have used a tiny bit more hopping for balance - I expect any Belgian-style to emphasize the malt and yeast more than the hops, but it was almost *too* sweet. I'd still buy it again, though.

Packaging: 12 oz. can

Purchased: Received in a trade

A: Cloudy, honey colored beer, capped with a finger of offwhite head. Lacing is good and retention is fair.

S: Smells are a pleasing combination of sweet, bready malts, earthy tones, rich fruits and typical Belgian yeast aromatics.

T: The taste starts out with sweetness from the malts and fruits, and then has elements of spices from the hops and some woody qualities. Bitterness is very low.

M: Body is thick, with a finish that has sweetness of ripened fruits and malts.

O: Overall a very good Belgian pale.

Thanks go to Treyliff for this trade!

Pours a dirty blonde color with little to no sediment. The beer is cloudy and unfiltered. The aroma full of Belgian candi sugar, bubblegum and clean alcohol. In the taste, brown sugar, candi sugar, wild flower honey and a fruity Belgian yeast kick. A little bubblegum is there in the flavor too. Medium bodied, medium high carbonation. Overall, a nice Belgian pale in a can.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. Base of the can reads, "KISS ME 04/08/2014".

A: Cloudy, honey-colored body. Half a finger of white head that quickly dissipates and leaves little lacing.

S: Fruity yeast. Tropical fruit, apple, peach. Candi sugar. Light spice with some cardamom and coriander. Sweet bread.

T: A vague, rounded spice opens with a subdued sweetness. Mild hop bitterness builds to a semi-dry finish. There is an off-putting corn element and the unshakable essence of garlic. Alcohol consistent with the ABV. A light tartness lingers.

M: Low to moderate carbonation with a moderate body. A bit oily, but smooth.

O: I started off really liking the nose on this one, but the off-flavors kinda killed for me in the end. I've given this one multiple spins on multiple days, but I can't get past the garlicky, organophosphate thing happening.

Prost!

Poured a hazy deep orangey-gold. Initially has a creamier white head that reduces down to slight presence around the circumference of the tulip glass. The aroma is mostly yeast with a hint of caramel. The taste has a nice tangy-ness to it, reminiscent of the way sourdough tastes. There are also some subtle fruit notes hiding in the back. There's a nice thickness to it and it's quite smooth. A very good Belgian-style pale ale.
