Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: t0rin0 on 07-13-2011

The Citizen Belgian Ale is inspired by the timeless Tripel style ales of Belgium. Using a traditional high gravity "Abbey" yeast strain that encourages the production of highly palatable ethanol notes supported by Aromatic and "The Citizen" also exhibits the noble hop spiciness that is common to most Belgian Ales. Reigning in at 7.0% ABV this is the Brau's strongest offering in our flagship portfolio. Become a Citizen of the world, one sip at a time!

Pours a light amber with not a lot of head. The smell was very subdued but had some nice grapefruit scents to it. The taste was a bit mellow throughout with some hop flavors on the end, but little Belgian wheat or other flavors. Not bad, but I like a lot of their other beers more than this one.

The citizen is a beer I upgraded after sampling it at warmer and warmer temps.

One has no business drinking this beer at anything but cellar temp. It's also good as a lunch beer and with coffee. (almost needs the bitter coffee to pull it away from sugariness.)

a - Hazy bright orange color with one inch of off white head & moderate carbonation.

s - Smells of wheat, citrus hops, spices, and bright yeast. Ripe pear, peppercorns, shortbread biscuit, flowers. Much better at cellar temp.

t - Taste follows smell but gets better yeast, wheat, bready malts, sugar cookies,
grains, and fruit. Starts a bit medicinal, but that fades to a more pleasant flavor as she warms. Pretty delicious.

m - Medium to light body w moderate carbonation. Clean finish, great with lunch. Bright, juicy, gets better as it warms.

o - Wheat and citrus, bright, brassy yeast. Grows on you. Good with food. Good effort.

As A bros wrote " complex, this is not one to just knock back as each sip peels back another layer of flavor." True. Upgrade!
