650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2012 bottle.

Appearance - Dark brown. Big khaki head. Thick collar. Reddish transparency at the edges.

Smell - Some roast. A lot of acids and cherry fruitines. Ruh roh. No barrel.

Taste - And it's infected. Lots of fruity acetic sourness. Some roast still comes through, but it's fully infected.

Mouthfeel - Dry. Well carbonated. Sour.

Overall - Obviously, I had a different experience than everyone else.

Got a bottle through mail order...interesting black tape over cap on 22 oz bottle. Bottled in 2012...5.5% abv. Photo of oaked stamp is in different place than photo in picture as of 2.2013.
Poured in Stone tulip glass...black with smallish dark head.
Big aromas of bourbon, molasses, dark roasted malts.
Modest carbonation and penetrating mouthfeel.
Flavors of bourbon, oak, dark roasted malts, cold coffee, minerals, carob. Slight bitter coffee, Italian herbs, funky fruit rind juices, some astringency, slight aspirin...let's give this 5 minutes...
OK...back and there's a slight bubble swirl that's real pretty, the aroma remains large, and the tastes are big and bold, rough and somewhat mouth puckering. I can't say this is easy or delicious.
Uh oh...just gave it to my experienced tasting partner...she says: "that's harsh...smoky, too smoky."
There's a rough imbalance of herbs, burnt malts, funky yeast for this mixture, and odd tropical fruit rind flavors. It's not particularly bad, but many may think so. I think it's interesting and I applaud the mix, but it's not especially tasty.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of Crabbicuss. I assumed this was the regular version until noticing the "OAKED" stamp across the label. Nice surprise. Bottled in 2012 and poured into an Allagash goblet.

A - Pours midnight black with about a finger of mocha head. The head dies to a halo after a few minutes, but leaves behind a tiered lacing.

S - Roasty character on the forefront along with noticeable contributions from the barrel and its contents. Sweet toffee is balanced with bitter blackstrap molasses. The aroma is quite complex and vibrant considering it's un-imperial status.

T - Starts with smooth, roasty grains and a mellow sweetness. The whiskey flavor is big on the first sip, but fades as my pallate acclimates to the other flavors. Diminutive cola flavors and slight hop bitterness hit in the middle. The finish is mostly clean with a slightly bitter coffee linger. Flavorful.

M - A little bit thin, but otherwise pretty good. Carbonation is fitting for the style.

O - This is a very good porter with complex aromas and flavors. The whiskey aging adds more to the aroma than the flavor, in my opinion. This beer never gets too sweet, roasty, or bitter, but balances each of these elements nicely. I tend towards BA imperial stouts so this was a different playing field for me. I was impressed nonetheless. I recommend this beer if you can get it.

Thanks to queens1130 for sharing this one at jmgrub's tasting.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, and some woody aromas. Taste is much the same with a slightly tart flavor and a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but not as good as I was hoping for.
