Brewed with DC Brau with 50% oak smoked wheat malt. This is a Grodziskie-Gratzer, which is a sour smoked wheat beer who's roots go back to the 1500s.

The beer is crystal clear yellow in color with a few fingers of fluffy white head. Great retention and carbonation.

The aroma is slightly funky, smoky, and musty. It smells an old German beer to be honest, with a nice amount of funk to spice it up a bit.

The taste follows the aroma and is light and smoky. The funk, however, leaves an aftertaste I don't much care for. As a whole, the beer really isn't that tasty.

Extremely light body that is carbonated well. The smoke and bad aftertaste don't help this beer's drinkability.

Overall, I wouldn't get this again. It was my first foray into this style, but I really don't much care to delve into it again.

Poured on tap at the Westover Market Beer garden in Arlington VA into a clear solo cup.

A light dull lemon yellow body is presented with a faint white head. Some slight lacing is apparent while drinking, but a fairly simple looking brew.

Nose is a real nice malted smoke, very similar to Schlenkerla's Lagerbier. Airy and whispy, simple but not overpowering. Straight forward smokey malts not much else.

Taste is let down slightly by a very weak body feel, but that seems to be by design, it's perhaps the only thing I would say on this beer that is it's weakest character. Flavor is of nice smoke, and some chew like malt. A good amount of carbonation on this even with a slight wet body. THe smoke character on this is very tolerable on the palate.

Overall considering it's very light abv which I was unaware of, this makes for a great session brew, I would have this again easily and real drinkable.

Moving this to the correct listing.

An excellent beer IMO, I had a glass and a half at Church Key last night. This is more of a smoked kellerbier in the Czech vein than a typical smoked beer.

Yellowish with a dense, white head with nice retention and some lacing, this looks good. The nose is glorious. Moderately smoky and slightly meaty, slightly butter with some hops, lemony, slightly lemon rind-like and a little biscuit. The palate opens smoky and with a moderate buttery yeast character. I'm usually not a fan of DMS, even when it's considered appropriate for the style, but here is works, lending a richness and a fullness to complement the smoky, slightly oily meaty flavor of the smoked malt. Not really doughy, the malt character is rustic and rather biscuity. With such a low ABV, the mouthfeel is a little watery, but the smoke and the yeast go a long way towards tempering this shortcoming. Light in body with medium-high carbonation, this beer is an excellent session beer. Highly recommended.

Brewed at DC Brau in collaboration with the yet to be opened Bluejacket brewery, the revival of an extinct style, the smoked hefeweizen. Awesome.

Beer is yellow and completely hazy to the point of being white. Nice high carbonation and soft white head of small and medium bubbles, leaving a nice cap on top of the beer.

Aroma is yeasty, bready with a hint of smoke.

Beer is light in body, wet on the palate, hints of smoke without being overwhelming, a nice beer for sure. The breadiness comes through as well as the smoke, it isn't a heavily smoked beer though, just a nice clean beer with a smokiness to it, great finish. I'd have it again for sure.
