Notes/Commercial Description:
Getting up early and dragging dead fish around all day is a tough gig. That’s why we want to pay homage to the hard working fish mongers down on Baldwin Street. This IPA is big, assertive and full of attitude…not too unlike the surly characters slicing and dicing today’s catch. A wonderfully floral, piney and mildly citrus nose comes by way of an excessive dose of American hops and British ale yeast. The big malt bill achieves a chewy body with a sweet finish. Meant to be enjoyed in moderation, this beer is perfect…anytime.

Purchased at the LCBO $2.95 for a 473ml can. Served at 5deg C in a draught glass.

A- Nice unfiltered IPA. Not much head at all. Cloudy good!

S- Pretty good. Rather subdued.

T- Not bad. Not great but not bad. Expected a lot more out of this one. Tried it in the past and it hasn't changed much. Pretty thin for an IPA even for a Canadian offering.

M- Pretty good.

O- Not that great but pretty good. Not something I would go out of my way for but that big 'ol fish eye reeled me in for a couple.

Food Pairing

This so so IPA pairs well with... Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. Nice whole wheat bread buttered on one side, hot pan, one slice butter side on the pan, Kraft slice, tomato slice, onion slice and the other slice of bread butter side up. Grill away!

Enjoy

Can: Poured a clear copper color ale with a rather large foamy head with average retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of dry caramel malt with light bitter hoppy notes. Taste is also dominated by some dry caramel malt with some hoppy bitter notes that are not as powerful as I would have expected. Body is light with good carbonation. Too much dry caramel malts for its own good with hops that fell way short considering the style.

Pours iced tea amber with a chunky, long lasting cap. Copious amounts of lace cling to the glass on the way down. The aroma is herbal and fruity hops mingling with fresh bread and light roasty malts. Grapefruit, melon and grape skin hop flavors and an assertive bitterness dominate the taste. Chewy, caramel malts are very prominent. Alcohol spice is quite noticeable for the ABV. The mouthfeel is light bodied and moderate to lightly carbonated. Some slick coating and booze heat detracts. The finish is moderately bitter and a bit boozy.

This is an ok, if somewhat distracted IPA. Too much malt in the flavor and an immodest alcohol presence for the strength. Still worth try, and very good on tap.

Interesting orange and blue from LCBO for $2.65 CDN served cold and poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Hazy orange / Brown (Burnt Orange?) color is poured. Some sediment in the glass is apparent especially near the end of the pour. Rocky 1 finger of head wasn't doing a ton for me right away, it looked nice and all but the longer it lingered the more impressed I became. Trace amounts of lacing left on the glass and some effervescent bubbles in the glass.

Smell - Not a ton here some mild hops and floral presence is there. The hops are pleasant on the nose but a little more subdued than expected.

Taste - Grapefruit is in here that wasn't apparent on the nose gives it a nice bitter taste, however it is not overpowering. The beer transitions into a maltier back end and the transition from one to another is well done. These are the two stars of this beer and there's not a lot else here but it is well executed. Vague caramel taste in there too.

Mouthfeel - Nice balance between watery and thirst quenching and the rich creamier ale feel. Medium / low carbonation.

Overall - A good IPA, with a solid kick, never is the 6.5% detected. It is a bit on the simple side, because there are fewer elements going on so this may be a good beer for introducing someone new to beer drinking to the American IPA style. Wasn't blown away, but if someone offered me one (and they don't know much of anything about beer) I would be very pleasantly surprised.

Poured from the can. Left a fluffy eggshell-white head with excellent retention. As it faded, it left splotchy, white residue as if it were marshmallow melting over hot chocolate. The beer itself is an appropriate goldfish orange.

Smells like a creamsicle! Some note of pine and earth as well but the sweetness dominates the nose.

I'll get to the taste but I'm going to start with the mouthfeel as it made the first and longest-lasting impression on me. It's cream and velvety. A bit thin for an IPA, but so smooth.

A lot of malt upfront. Bready caramel. Dry and bitter finish, some lingering orange peel. It's mildly hopped for an IPA. Some pine notes, a bit earthy and citrusy.

Overall, a delicious IPA but its only exceptional trait is its drinkability. I'd happily a bunch of these for a night of watching sports and eating pizza and wings with friends.

Got this one at the LCBO

From a 16oz can into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, off-white head with great retention. Fades to a thin film and sticks to the sides of the glass. hazy burnt orange with next to no carbonation evident. Splotchy wisp remains leaving dots of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Pale malts, caramel notes, honeydew melon, some grapefruit and pine aromas on the nose. Well balanced.

TASTE: Pale malts, caramel and melon flavors up front. Some grapefruit and pine bitterness at the swallow. Bold and lingering finish of piney bitterness, floral hops and a touch of caramel sweetness. Pretty decent, and more interesting than their pale ale.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly dry. Full and creamy feel.

OVERALL: This is pretty solid. A better and more interesting beer than their Augusta pale ale. There are quite a few good IPA's in Ontario now and while this one doesn't stand out, it can certainly run with the crowd. A solid IPA that I'd gladly drink on a regular basis. Cheers!

Serving Type - 473ml can, poured into a pint glass

Appearance - A fine looking beer. Pours a clear Copper/orange in colour with a decent 2 fingers of thick white head which seems to be sticking around. A mild amount of carbonation is visible. No hop resin that I can see.

Smell - Your standard I.P.A. fare here...citrus and pine in a big way. Malty smells...biscuit and caramel are also present.

Taste - More of the same. Getting s caramel malts up front, followed by some decent citrus. Towards the end I'm getting mostly pine and a lingering bitterness, but given the style it's quite mild.

Mouthfeel - Pretty light for an IPA. Carbonation is low as well. Beer finish wet and smooth.
