This place is old school. Although rebuilt, it purportedly dates back to the 1600.
Contrary to the name, this is not a brewery, but does serve a nice alt by Frankenheim. The alts were served in the typical straight glasses of an alt, or Kolsch. Don’t use the “K” word here. This is Dusseldorf. You will not go here for health food. I enjoyed the haxen, which was very good.
Service was always available and prompt. The waiters wore traditional clothing, adding to the atmosphere.
Many tourists and locals appeared to frequent Zum Schiffchen. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Contrary to its title, Zum Schiffchen is NOT a brewery, but does offer a few good beers for its guests. The lighting, the wood, the multiple rooms, and the mood of the restaurant was very good when I walked in. Good thing, because now I was hungry.
Three beers available on-tap (Frankenheim Alt, Warsteiner, and Schneider Weiss), all served with their respective glass. I don't know much German, but I do recognize a sampler platter of cheese, bread, and meats when I see one, and I recognize a good tasting one when I taste it. I just wasn't aware that it was a plate of cold cuts. My waiter was adequate checking up on me, but not quite as quick as those from Uerige, Fuchschen, etc.
The beer is a little more expensive than elsewhere; 200 ml of Frankenheimer goes for €2.10, which doesn't sound like much, but per pint, would be 50 cents higher than at Uerige. Still, Schiffchen was a change of pace in the city of Dusseldorf.

My father is from Duisberg so we visit Duesseldorf every time we went to Germany, BzS was one of the staples of those trips.
As an adult my wife, my father, and I visited for some brews and some grub back in 2002.
This is simply a beautiful and historic place to drink and eat, you will not be let down if you can make it here when it is not crowded.
The food is pricey but well worth the cost, you can find Wiener Art anywhere for cheaper but you will get a great, fresh cut at BzS. Try the Frankenheim from the tap if you are tired of Warsteiner or if you want to give something else a try.
There are many, many cool places in Altstadt to check out but make sure this is one of them.
