Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Threadless/Finch collaboration IPA is a balanced experience of both perceived hoppiness and true bitterness. It pours a darker amber color and finishes with a citrus flavor, and when combined, will require this to be the last IPA you ever drink! Well, maybe, we realize you will probably drink more, but the result of this recipe clearly evolves into a very balanced IPA. The grain bill on this big pale includes melanoidin and Victory malts. We hop it up before the boil starts with some Columbus first wort hopping, then add a bunch more for bittering.

16 ounce can - $2.09 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a hazed, golden-amber body in hue with a tall, thickish, off-white head that collapses leaving gooey remnants along the glass walls.

Smell: Threadless smells of honey-brushed, lightly toasty grains, loaf bread with packed, blended hop notes ranging from florals, to grasses, to citrus fruits, to moist pine needles.

Taste: Moderately sweet honeyish tone amidst the toasted barley grains and bread. Then, some orange oil, grapefruit, resinous tones, plus some firm leafiness. Medium-high bitterness. All those hop flavors linger while the maltiness and sweetness quickly drops away leaving a chewy albeit bitter and dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. A bit chewy and creamy, actually.

Overall: Fairly decent India Pale Ale.

16oz can, gushed a bit upon opening. Poured a very murky, rusty-orange color with tall, rocky, frothy, ivory colored head with excellent head retention & chunky lacing on the glass. Smells pungent, earthy, evergreen/piny. With the first sip, it's hop forward, hop middle, hop lingers. Pungently bitter, lacking any malty sweetness, tons of pine tar, earthy, evergreen, grapefruit, and apricot; insanely bitter (I like bitter, but this is out of balance). Body is medium, overly resiny, the occasional chunky yeasty ruins the feel. Finishes very dry and astringent with the pungent bitterness lingering on & on. I had this on tap a year or two ago with a better result, but this can of IPA was offensive.

Came in a pint can, poured a nice and light color with solid head. (Also, the can was full up to top on opening)

Smells very flowery with a bit of a hint of pine.

Taste is very hoppy off the bat, balanced out with a nice maltiness and citrus note in the aftertaste. Smooth, easy to drink.

A very good, if unspectacular IPA, with an added bump for the very convenient pint can,

This Chicago brew comes in a nice pint can, and poured a cloudy amber with a solid sudsy head and thin lace.

Nose says floral with pine and citrus notes. Not bad.

Taste is sharply hoppy, no surprise, with a pine and grapefruit tones, and a substantial malt profile. Threadless is a solid, if unremarkable IPA that remains drinkable and session-worthy, but it's not one I'd revisit anytime soon.

Poured into a perfect pint.

3.5 A: Murky dark yellow brown color. Just one finger of frothy off-white head. Retention is about average and a decent amount of lacing is left.

4.0 S: Supremely floral and citrusy. Papaya leads the way followed by mango and orange. Bready yeastiness, mild neutral malt sweetness, and just the slightest touch of caramel.

3.5 T: Taste is like the nose. Floral and citrus hops with the fruits mentioned above. Lots of yeastiness, mild neutral maltiness, mild bitterness, and a touch of caramel.

3.5 M: Medium to heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy with chewiness from the yeast.

3.5 D: Tasty, well rounded IPA. Lots of yeast, but it isn't too distracting.

This was another of a major haul coming from my latest visit to Pinocchio's Beer Garden in Media, PA. I love their dedication to CANs and their understanding of The CANQuest (TM)!

The Crack revealed another craft CAN filled to bursting. I employed a gentle Glug and still came up with two-plus fingers of dense, tawny head with good retention. Color was a hazy orangish-amber. Nose was pine hops with caramel malt underlying the mintiness. Mouthfeel was a bit thin and watery for the style, but I got an initial burst of pine hops on the tongue, followed by a smooth caramel malt sweetness. I was reminded of peppermint taffy or something akin to it. Finish was semi-dry and while tasty, I would have preferred more hops.
