Appearance: Arrives charcoal black with a modest head that leaves webs of lacing behind

Smell: Roast and pine, with a hint of band-aid phenols

Taste: Roast and chocolate, up front, with dark fruit and pine building in the middle; so far, so good, but the band aid phenols appear in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nice start but badly marred by the phenols

Poured into 34oz mug; jet black with a moderate brown head made of tight foam that doesn't fade at all. Smell is roasted malt, coffee and chocolate, with floral and citrusey hops. Taste is big roasted malt, lots of coffee with some sweet chocolate and dark fruit yeast flavors, along with a finish of bitter citrusey hops. Mouthfeel is medium-full.
Overall this is a good cascadian dark ale; more heavy on the roasted malt than the hops, but that's what makes it unique.

Pours an effervescent mahogany with 3+ fingers of caramel colored head. Nice lacing & head retention

S: Roasty, brown bread

T: Follows the nose, some charred grain as well, a little pineyness & woody bitterness up front. Dryness, roastyness , & char as this warms. Finishes with a little carob, herbal & woody bitterness

MF: Medium bodied firm carbonation. Alright balance

Drinks pretty, good a serviceable, not great Black IPA

Somewhat a surprise here. Opaque as a good stout with a HUGE tan head and tons of tan lacing. Nose of chocolate, coffee, spicy hops, and deep roasted malts. Taste is up front bittering hops with sweet malts to the sides. Coffee and bitter bakers chocolate comes through on the back. Highly carbonated mouthfeel makes it tingly to the hop flavor. Beefy for a black IPA. Excellent. Have had few Finch's brews I dislike, and for not being a hop head either I am changing or they just do it right. Cheers!

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, a touch of hops. Taste is roasted malts, a bit of chocolate, mild hops, balanced and mild. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, while a bit light on the hops, is a pretty good beer.
