As you approach Rock Bottom, you will notice a nice large street side patio .

Inside has a dark and comforting interior. There is a large u shaped bar as the center piece. It must sit 40+. There are lots of tables and booths for sitting. It would be easy to host a midsized gathering here.

They offered 7 house beers and 9 guest drafts. They also have 7 solid bottle choices.

Service at the bar was friendly and knew the beers.

I didn't eat, but the menu looked to be standard RB .

I may not go out of my way to come here, but it did make a nice combo with nearby Jacob Wirth.

Boston

In a city with so many choices for beer lovers, it is difficult to recommend this chain restaurant which would better serve second-tier beer cities. Yet, take away the common chain name, I would say this is a decent offering, but wouldn't get into the top 10 beer bars to recommend in the Boston area.

In terms of food, it's all traditional bar food fare--perfect for post office work. I ordered Buffalo wings and I doubt they were recently fried. That said, the sauce was decent. They were served with blue cheese and ranch dressing, which for purists is just plain wrong.

The place was large by Boston's standards. There's even some outdoor seating. On the weekend, during a beautiful day, the place is rather empty.

I found the beers to be reasonably priced by Boston standards. And they were, in my humble opinion, better than the general ratings suggests.

In the theater district, I would still choose Jacob Wirth's over this offering. I do like the brew pub offerings here and they also offer some competing craft offerings. So, I think this is still a decent place to wander into even though the offerings in Boston are plentiful and excellent.

Stopped in here on Sat with a few friends to check out the new look. They certain updated this inside. The bar is now in the center of the restaurant, which seems to make the place look a bit bigger. TVs scattered throughout the dining room. The decor was on the dark side, which gave the atmosphere a fake trendy look, like an upscale chain restaurant that always tries too hard to look "cool". Felt very sterile. Service was decent at our table, as we got our beers and food in a timely manner on a busy night. Selection was not what it used to be, as we all know. They don't brew here any more, so they 8 or so house beers they serve are brewed elsewhere. They also have a whole tower of taps that serve beers brewed by other national craft brewers, if you don't want an RB beer. I had the Imperial Stout, and my pals had the Kolsch and the Red Ale, with no complaints. Food was good, as we just had some burgers, etc. The new Rock Bottom comes off as a generic place that serves up acceptable food and beer. So it's not too bad, but certainly a step down from what is was before this makeover.

Stopped here for lunch in between touring Sam Adams and walking down to Harpoon for their afternoon tasting room opening. Perfectly adequate lunch: a veggie patty melt with onion rings, a more unique veggie burger offering from most pubs. Beer was fine with the Saison being the best of the lot; however, unfortunately, that's not a high compliment. My biggest disappointment was that this Rock Bottom doesn't actually brew it's own beer, so the range was basic and unexciting. According to the bartender, it's the only Rock Bottom that doesn't brew on site. Sigh. Not bad, just not interesting. If you are starving and standing in front of Rock Bottom Boston--it's fine. But, I don't go out of the way for this one.
