Had at the 2011 Cambridge Beer Festival. Note this is a "Black IPA" (Cascadian Dark Ale) with typical English strength ( <6%) and brewed with English ale yeasts.

An all-around excellent brew. Dark, malty, with rich fresh hop aromas and flavour (Cascades are in the mix), and an incredibly smooth finish. Perfect with a steak Cornish pasty. Highly recommended.
Also available in bottle.

Black IPA at 5%, so not as strong as the Cascadian Darks you find in the US in terms of ABV, but still packs a punch in the flavour department!

Dark Brown to Black in appearance served into an imperial pint glass with the correct type of head (2 to 3 mm so the consumer isn't losing out on beer!) at the Horse and Groom in Windsor, some 900 metres from the brewery !

Very hoppy for a 5% beer, tan flavours, slightly burnt, very mild smoke going on, verging on a burnt nut/oil combo

Great tasting beer and a great first effort at a black IPA from a small English brewer

I immediately followed up with a 2nd pint - it made me want to go back for more!

Look out for Conquerer 1075 (7.4% hopped up version of this same beer - not yet listed !)

33 cl bottle poured into my lost abbey stemware glass

Pours very, very dark brown with a light beige medium head. Coffee and hops combine in the mouth to great effect, its a different beast when compared to the Kernel and Magic Rock offerings but no less impressive. Perhaps a bit more coffee and hops showing straight away,
Nice softness in mouth with a real juicy burst and then the coffee and malts take over before a bitter pithy but softening finish. Spent coffee grains remain and hoppy burps are aplenty. Roasty and with some unsweetened liquorice , nice example for the style !

On cask at the GBBF, 2011.

Ruby brown with a beige film that laces. Smoke, orange oil, and soil on the nose.
Raisin, earth and dark malts up front, then orange peel, light sap and cough drop hops.
Baker's chocolate finish and lingering bitterness. Chewy, medium, and dry.

A light version of a CDA. Not enough hops (Summit and Cascade, according to the blurb). Having said that, still clingy, lovely and drinkable.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a dark black colour with a small off white head, quite decent lacing though.

Smells quite faintly of hops, quite refreshing scent in general, me likey.

Tastes very hoppy, kind of like it should be very very hoppy but isn't. Basically it's well balanced but still hoppy, just close to being too hoppy but cleverly staying held back by nice refreshing malts.

Overall quite a lovely beer, on the border seemingly between stout and ipa, very interesting, and i'd like to try more!
