A: A shiny red color, clear liquid. A sparkling and airy pink head that's quite big for a lambic. The head settles quickly though, and leaves cobweb-like lacings.

S: Almost completely dominated by raspberries. The raspberries are mostly semi-sweet, fresh and genuine, but they're on their way to raspberry candy. No puckering components. Notes of grass and earth.

T: Thankfully, the taste is not as filled with candy-like raspberries that the smell had me to believe. Strong, yet round flavors of genuine raspberries. It's mostly sweet but hints of lemon and other tart notes liven up everything. Some grassy and earthy notes. In the middle the tartness gets a little accentuated as it's leading into a dry finish with some metallic flavors, grass, raspberries and lemon peel. The sweetness felt in the mouth gets really dampened by the somewhat tart finish. Finally, I actually detect just a hint of spicy alcohol.

M: Medium body, pleasant carbonation, not overly sparkling.

D: This one is too sweet and one-sided to be considered to be a fantastic fruit lambic, but still it's miles away from the soda-like sorry excuses for beers that some lambic brewers produce today. It's quite refreshing, enjoyable and easy to drink.

Again, perhaps a bit too sweet, this one still packs some tart acidity, quite smelly earthy nose, which is always an incouraging sign, but the framboise i think is a touch to prominent, fairly complex, and nice to drink, nothing to special.

I was excited to try this beer as I believe Girardin Geuze to be, arguably, the finest Geuze in the world and at the very least my favourite of the style.

Although their Framboise ticks most of the boxes for a quality lambic (good lacing on the glass; satisfying tart-fruit smell), what lets it down is the taste, in that there isn't really much of one. You get the initial out-of-a-packet sour-funk and a rasberry tingle on the tongue, but then it all just disappears. Gulp aaand gone.

I expect all good beers to have a lasting and satisfying finish, and I expect this two-fold for a style that trades it's reputation on complexity and having various dimensions of taste. On these grounds Girardin Framboise lets itself down because there just really isn't enough there.

A shame.

2015 vintage. 375ml corked and caged bottle into a 3F flute. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a clear bright red. No head, no lace and very thin legs that drop quickly. Below average.

Nose is pretty wretched. Notes of rotten egg, bitter raspberry seed and raspberry pulp. Simple but there's a distinct manure-like funk that doesn't belong.

Opens raspberry puree, raspberry seed bitterness and a plastic funk. Cobwebs, hay and a juicy, tart and mildly bitter raspberry in the middle. Some oak and a salty cheesiness finishes things off. Aftertaste is seedy and lightly tart. Average.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Foamy in the mouth and goes down prickly and dry. Dry finish with a sticky, filmy aftertaste. Solid.

Having the Black Label Gueuze from Girardin as its first offering, I have to say that this is a huge disappointment. The nose is awful and the funk that is present just doesn't taste right. In addition, the fruit presence, while there, is a bit too seedy instead of juicy. I'd pass on this one in the future.

Looks nice, deep hazy red with pink head. Aroma has tart raspberries without any funk. Taste is a bit bland, sour with some fruit character. Overall a decent fruit beer but not really what you would expect from a lambic.

served in a RR 'tion glass. thanks to jason for bringing this back from belgium for me. batch D x 2011.

pours a deep pink and light ruby. light pinkish head with some light retention.

mainly fresh raspberry on the nose. a light sweetness.

very raspberry dominated. not much else. a very slight tartness but not much. although this is fairly one dimensional, the raspberry is quite good. not overpowering in any way. there is a faint hint of dry oak around the finish.

a mild tingle from the carbonation. sweetness across the mouth. dry finish.

this is good, not really sour at all, but good. id drink this again for sure.

This beer has the most important element in it, which isn't a chapter in this kind of reviews: drinkability. That's why I could buy it more often if I will find it.

The looks are great. The head is very nice, so I don't understand people who say it isn't much.

But except drinkable, does it offer more? I'm afraid not. The smell has some raspberry, but quite tiny. Very little funk. The taste isn't too sour, nor too sweet, but...too thin. Almost watery.

Combined with some overcarbonation my conclusion is that this is a drinkable beer, but not very impressive.

Pours ruby-tinted copper with a pink-tinged head.
Nose shows authentic raspberries with a little funk in the background.
Flavours focus on sweet raspberry jam at first followed by a pronounce, balancing bitterness. Perhaps just a little on the sweet side overall.
Nice moderately high carbonation works well.

Bottle: The bottle opened with a large POP! Poured a bright red/pink colored beer with a huge head with excellent retention. Carbonation is very strong and aroma is comprised mainly of sweet raspberry. Taste is very refreshing with a very good taste of raspberry (not too much sweetness though) and tart. I appreciated the fact that the acidic part was well covered and wasn’t taking too much place. Overall, this was a very refreshing drink that I wouldn’t mind trying again on a hot summer day.

A nose with a touch of acid marked raspberry. A winey acidity, but much more acidic than wine-worthy of the great lambic that provides firsthand raspberries that melt on your tongue but soon acidity takes over with a return vinous offering both brands raspberries and touches of cork. A good lambic, which gives pride to the fruit and acidity.

Thanks to hopdog for breaking this goodie out at the tasting...
Appears a transparent pink-toned red with a small white cap that slowly fades into a small cloud spirals. Light lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of cran-raspberry juice with freshly mashed berries that are evident from the first inhale. I found it to be really quite addictive.
Taste is of creamy vanilla, fruit punch, and rasperry with cranberries resounding in a slightly tart flavor.
Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, vinuous, and semi-dry on the finish.

Aroma was straight up raspberry jelly. The color was dark red and clear. Taste is centered on an earthy raspberry flavor. Reminds me of the seeds rather than the juice. This beer was dry, in fact very dry. Not very complex and not too tart. Somewhat average for a framboise but was unique.

This beer is red, brown, amber with a creamy head and a moderate amount of carbonation.

Smell of raspberries and strawberries, red fruit, with a slight tangy smell. Like a lemonade really.

Taste is red fruit with an initial tangy lactic acidity. This disappears very quickly when my mouth gets used to it. Then I taste the slight bitterness and some sweetness. Aftertaste is dry and tangy.

A- Poured from a 375ml into a few glasses for the 2000th review party with a orange-amber-red body; just stained with raspberry hue. A small frothy ring forms at the edges but no real head. Small drizzle and a few lacing spots.

S- Sweet berries, obviously raspberry, off the top with a musty fruity base behind them. Quite a departure from the Gueuze as this lacks much funk and lambic complexity. Showcases the berries with a bit of funk. Yogurt.

T- Similar to the aroma with berry focus and what seems like a young lambic base offering slight musty grapes, oak and lactic sours. Fresh and somewhat sweet raspberries all throughout. Lactic yogurt for sure.

MF- Foamy and crisp very light bodied Framboise. Carbonation seemed like it would be higher as the cork blasted off but it is on the medium-low side. Finishes probably on the verge between tart and sour.

A whole lot different than the Black Label Gueuze and for me this tastes like a young lambic aged on raspberries because of the lack of big sourness and complex old lambic flavors. A great early afternoon refresher.

Easy drinking fruity Framboise that lacks complexity and that extra sour kick to be great. Almost perfect though to convert non beer drinkers to the art.
