A - Pours a clear, vibrant brown-hued red with a pink-tinted layer of froth, which settles as a ring. Head is easily refreshed.

S - Strong smell of raspberries fills the room. Getting the nose into the glass brings out citric sourness, musk, cherry, pear drops.

T - The appearance/smell had me looking forward to tasting, but frankly it's disappointing. The raspberries appear first with a tart edge, which sweetens towards the middle. Solvent flavour towards the end, which then leads to a dry-ish leafy aftertaste. Somewhat restrained and one-dimensional.

M - Light/watery mouthfeel and carbonation that is just too soft.

D - Easy enough to drink, but not interesting enough to be revisited any time soon.

Brew club beer tasting, end of the night capper provided by biegaman from his Belgium trip.

Pours a clear reddish orange, thin off white head forms, settles down to a thin ring and layer leaving behind some decent lacing. Smell is nice, fresh raspberries, hay, grass, some caramel, light funk/barnyard, lots of fruit, oak, neat. Taste is similar, lots of fresh fruits and raspberry, sour barnyard funk, hay, grass, some bready malt, more fruit, very fresh sour finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, very smooth and drinkable, nice fruit character. Thanks a lot Jan!

biergotter club brew/tasting 2007. biegaman brought this one over recently and we didn't quite get to it, so we pulled it out as our final beer of the night. a great way to end the tasting. thanks jan!

37.5cl bottle, corked and caged. cork shows 07-07.

pours deep pinkish red with a bit of haze. a nice fairly dense white head forms, dropping slowly and leaving spotty lace behind.

aroma is great. sour cherries. funk. lots of raspberry. bit of sweetness.

taste is great. low bitterness level. lots of raspberry. light sourness. bit of funk. touch of sour cherry. just enough going on to keep it interesting, but nothing too crazy.

mouthfeel is good. medium-high carbonation level. medium body. fairly dry finish.

drinkability is good. balanced and nice. nothing crazy complex, but a very nice beer.

Thanks to hopdog for breaking this goodie out at the tasting...
Appears a transparent pink-toned red with a small white cap that slowly fades into a small cloud spirals. Light lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of cran-raspberry juice with freshly mashed berries that are evident from the first inhale. I found it to be really quite addictive.
Taste is of creamy vanilla, fruit punch, and rasperry with cranberries resounding in a slightly tart flavor.
Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, vinuous, and semi-dry on the finish.

This beer is red, brown, amber with a creamy head and a moderate amount of carbonation.

Smell of raspberries and strawberries, red fruit, with a slight tangy smell. Like a lemonade really.

Taste is red fruit with an initial tangy lactic acidity. This disappears very quickly when my mouth gets used to it. Then I taste the slight bitterness and some sweetness. Aftertaste is dry and tangy.

one dimentional. fruit juice, raspberries, hint of banana, slightly creamy. quick finish. creamy head, quick bite of carbonation. very very pink in color. sweet and halfway drinkable -- not overly cloying, no lindemans -- but not real special either.

I'd been looking forward to this, after enjoying the gueuze. Out popped the cork.... wow this is fruity. Excellent. The colour was good too, a lustrous red tone with a slightly pink froth. But the taste? Nothing there. It really didn't taste of anything much. A big bloody disappointment. Drinkability? Well you could drink it all day, except that there is no reason why you might want to. Don't bother.

Bottle: The bottle opened with a large POP! Poured a bright red/pink colored beer with a huge head with excellent retention. Carbonation is very strong and aroma is comprised mainly of sweet raspberry. Taste is very refreshing with a very good taste of raspberry (not too much sweetness though) and tart. I appreciated the fact that the acidic part was well covered and wasn’t taking too much place. Overall, this was a very refreshing drink that I wouldn’t mind trying again on a hot summer day.

12oz bottle, sampled at the Brugge Bear in Brugge, Belgium. This brew was a deep reddish colour reminiscent of blood. The aromas are all fresh raspberries, seeds and all. The base is malty and full of oakyness and lambic funk. This is one hell of a Framboise! The taste is a raspberry explosion with plenty of mouth puckering acid, and oaky complexity to back the whole thing up. The mouthfeel is creamy and acidic as all hell and the drinkability is awesome. A great framboise! One of the best (if not THE best!)

Ruby red colour, decent foam, pink in colour.
At the nose the sweet is dominant: candy sugar, fruit candy, and surely, raspberry. But it is a sweet too strong, and sickly.
At the taste instead the sweet doesn't cover all; the pungent, acetic, tart background of the lambic can rise up. A light astringency.
The taste is not well balanced, but anyway the taste is more interesting than the smell, monotone and sickly.
Medium-low body. The aftertaste starts with some sweetness, but the finish is tart and acetic.

I was really dissappointed when I tried this. My notes have the words "just too perfumy". Remember the times when you had the old woman teacher at school who plastered herself in perfume??? So much so that you were nearly sick when you got close. It is the same with this beer. A very sweet raspberry lambic - far too commercial for my liking. I did not finish this drink !! There are better examples of Framboisen. I really expected this to have a much more traditional dryer feel to it. Shame on Girardin for this - I know they could do better.

Again, perhaps a bit too sweet, this one still packs some tart acidity, quite smelly earthy nose, which is always an incouraging sign, but the framboise i think is a touch to prominent, fairly complex, and nice to drink, nothing to special.
