A- Poured from a 375ml into a few glasses for the 2000th review party with a orange-amber-red body; just stained with raspberry hue. A small frothy ring forms at the edges but no real head. Small drizzle and a few lacing spots.

S- Sweet berries, obviously raspberry, off the top with a musty fruity base behind them. Quite a departure from the Gueuze as this lacks much funk and lambic complexity. Showcases the berries with a bit of funk. Yogurt.

T- Similar to the aroma with berry focus and what seems like a young lambic base offering slight musty grapes, oak and lactic sours. Fresh and somewhat sweet raspberries all throughout. Lactic yogurt for sure.

MF- Foamy and crisp very light bodied Framboise. Carbonation seemed like it would be higher as the cork blasted off but it is on the medium-low side. Finishes probably on the verge between tart and sour.

A whole lot different than the Black Label Gueuze and for me this tastes like a young lambic aged on raspberries because of the lack of big sourness and complex old lambic flavors. A great early afternoon refresher.

The beer pours a vibrant reddish purple color. This pour was quite clear, not even any haze. Fizzy pinkish head blooms up quickly, but it dies down after a couple minutes. Lots of lacing. The aroma has raspberries and funk but with a touch of artificial sweetness. Some jamminess to the fruit flavor. Funk is pretty mild but provides a nice fruity, barnyard flavor. Taste is moderately sweet with a nice tangy sourness. Mild to moderate acidity. The sweetness is actually pretty nicely balanced against the tangy sourness. It’s very easy to drink. No real off notes. Fizzy with a little body and pretty light pucker. I liked this more than I expected to.

A nose with a touch of acid marked raspberry. A winey acidity, but much more acidic than wine-worthy of the great lambic that provides firsthand raspberries that melt on your tongue but soon acidity takes over with a return vinous offering both brands raspberries and touches of cork. A good lambic, which gives pride to the fruit and acidity.

A: Medium red body with a bit of pinkish hue to the edges. Thin pinkish-white head which quickly receded. Only the slightest hints of lacing at first before completely vanishing.

S: Smells like sweet raspberry jam. A little leather. Some generalized sourness tips it's hat.

T: The raspberry jam-like character is still there, but it shifts from a more sweet rendition in the nose to a tarter, lightly sour version. Just a hint of oak, and some leather. No funky notes.

M: Medium-light bodied, with a soft, gentle carbonation which leaves a slightly thin spot towards the finish. Light tartness in the finish.

D: Tasty, and somewhat unique in that its not a massively tart framboise (lou pepe or rose de gambrinus) nor is it medicinally sweet (lindemans or boon). Worth a try indeed.

biergotter club brew/tasting 2007. biegaman brought this one over recently and we didn't quite get to it, so we pulled it out as our final beer of the night. a great way to end the tasting. thanks jan!

37.5cl bottle, corked and caged. cork shows 07-07.

pours deep pinkish red with a bit of haze. a nice fairly dense white head forms, dropping slowly and leaving spotty lace behind.

aroma is great. sour cherries. funk. lots of raspberry. bit of sweetness.

taste is great. low bitterness level. lots of raspberry. light sourness. bit of funk. touch of sour cherry. just enough going on to keep it interesting, but nothing too crazy.

mouthfeel is good. medium-high carbonation level. medium body. fairly dry finish.

drinkability is good. balanced and nice. nothing crazy complex, but a very nice beer.

Brew club beer tasting, end of the night capper provided by biegaman from his Belgium trip.

Pours a clear reddish orange, thin off white head forms, settles down to a thin ring and layer leaving behind some decent lacing. Smell is nice, fresh raspberries, hay, grass, some caramel, light funk/barnyard, lots of fruit, oak, neat. Taste is similar, lots of fresh fruits and raspberry, sour barnyard funk, hay, grass, some bready malt, more fruit, very fresh sour finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, very smooth and drinkable, nice fruit character. Thanks a lot Jan!

served in a RR 'tion glass. thanks to jason for bringing this back from belgium for me. batch D x 2011.

pours a deep pink and light ruby. light pinkish head with some light retention.

mainly fresh raspberry on the nose. a light sweetness.

very raspberry dominated. not much else. a very slight tartness but not much. although this is fairly one dimensional, the raspberry is quite good. not overpowering in any way. there is a faint hint of dry oak around the finish.

a mild tingle from the carbonation. sweetness across the mouth. dry finish.

this is good, not really sour at all, but good. id drink this again for sure.

Thanks to hopdog for breaking this goodie out at the tasting...
Appears a transparent pink-toned red with a small white cap that slowly fades into a small cloud spirals. Light lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of cran-raspberry juice with freshly mashed berries that are evident from the first inhale. I found it to be really quite addictive.
Taste is of creamy vanilla, fruit punch, and rasperry with cranberries resounding in a slightly tart flavor.
Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, vinuous, and semi-dry on the finish.

375ml bottle into a Girardin goblet at Moeder Lambic St. Gilles.

A: Deep scarlet, clear body, and a voluminous, persistent pink head. Great lace. Fantastic.

S: Huge, ripe, tart raspberry. Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else required.

T: Raspberries dominate throughout, starting out juicy and getting more bitter and seedy toward the end. Some light, grassy funk joins in as well. Very tasty, but a little weak in the end.

M: Creamy, lively, and a touch thin. Pretty good.

O: While I preferred the Kriek 1882, this was another fine fruit Lambic from Girardin. I'm rather puzzled by the relatively low overall scores this beer has gotten - I have a feeling if the label said "Cantillon" instead of "Girardin" it would rate significantly higher, as I think it's every bit as good as some bottles of Rose de Gambrinus I've had (granted, when that beer is at its best it's stunning, but only one out of 4 bottles I've had of it has blown me away). Anyway, tasty Framboise.

Bottle: The bottle opened with a large POP! Poured a bright red/pink colored beer with a huge head with excellent retention. Carbonation is very strong and aroma is comprised mainly of sweet raspberry. Taste is very refreshing with a very good taste of raspberry (not too much sweetness though) and tart. I appreciated the fact that the acidic part was well covered and wasn’t taking too much place. Overall, this was a very refreshing drink that I wouldn’t mind trying again on a hot summer day.

Pours ruby-tinted copper with a pink-tinged head.
Nose shows authentic raspberries with a little funk in the background.
Flavours focus on sweet raspberry jam at first followed by a pronounce, balancing bitterness. Perhaps just a little on the sweet side overall.
Nice moderately high carbonation works well.

12oz bottle, sampled at the Brugge Bear in Brugge, Belgium. This brew was a deep reddish colour reminiscent of blood. The aromas are all fresh raspberries, seeds and all. The base is malty and full of oakyness and lambic funk. This is one hell of a Framboise! The taste is a raspberry explosion with plenty of mouth puckering acid, and oaky complexity to back the whole thing up. The mouthfeel is creamy and acidic as all hell and the drinkability is awesome. A great framboise! One of the best (if not THE best!)
