American IPA |  6.50% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
The Outlaw is brewed for those on the run from the laws of traditional American beer. An American IPA, the Outlaw is brewed with an abundance of American hops backed up by a solid malt base. Citrus, pine and slightly spicy aroma dominate the Outlaw; it finishes with a pleasant bitterness with a bit of malty sweetness.

Can poured into a pint glass. Slightly hazy pale body, with a firm, latte-like foam head you could eat with a fork.

Smells like a brewery. Citrusy hops with a biscuity malt back. Grapefruit notes really shining through.

That's great. Easy drinking, well balanced. Lingering light hoppy aftertaste. An IPA that satisfies people who love IPAs and is tolerable for people who think they can't handle IPAs.

On the lighter bodied side for an IPA, almost sessionable. Incredibly clean finishing.

Stands right with 21A's Brew Free or Die among the best IPAs I've had from a can, not to mention one of the better overall.

The final stop on my tour of Boise IPAs at Bittercreek. (The waiter was friends with the owners of Payette)

This beer appears a cloudy medium apricot colour, with one finger of tight foamy eggshell white head, which leaves some sparse ringed lace around the glass as it falls away. It smells softly of caramel malt, and citrusy, herbal, perfumed hops. The taste is bitter pine and citrus rind hops, bready malt, and a separate herbal essence. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium weight, with a barbed nature that interferes with straight ahead smoothness. It finishes fairly dry, the bitter herbal hops seeing to that.

A more balanced IPA, as promised, than the other local offerings. Tasty, in that now familiar Boise way.

This is the first offering from Payette I've had the opportunity to try. A dull, hazy honey gold with a decent amount of carbonation. I personally like to see more clarity n my IPAs. Earthy hops dominate the nose, with hints of onion and grapefruit in the periphery. Nice hop profile in the palate, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention a lingering astringency that I find less than appealing. All in all a decent enough IPA, although Not one I would seek out.

Cloudy amber with about one inch of cream color head. Good retention and lacing.
Smell is grain and light pine.
Taste is rich piney hops with a strong malt backbone. More balanced than most IPAs makes for less dryness in the finish.
Mouthfeel is plenty good with just enough carbonation to keep it spicey on the tongue.
Overall a tasty brew that veers from the straight and narrow but still has plenty of hop bitterness to be interesting. Give it a try if you can find it.

Well I was told this was the crown jewel so far for payette brewing....from a customer nobody behind the bar....

Appearance: Cloudy peach color with a dark reddish orange on the frindges. White lace on top that makes it look that much more elegant.

Smell: Fruity with lots of hops. I couldn't place the hops from the smell but they are refreshing....

Taste: The first taste took me back a little. I just wasnt expecting it I guess. I put it as a middle of the road IPA for me. Lots of flavor but not great but not bad for sure. The more I had of this beer the more it grew on me. I do see why so many like this beer.

Mouthfeel- Smooth IPA for the most part.

If you like IPA's you will probably rate this a little higher then I. It is a decent IPA that I think could be really enjoyable...
