Clean amber pour until the bottom of the tumbles out a big cloud of yeast. If you like cloudy roll the can a bit before pouring. Otherwise don't pour the last bit at all. Huge off white head with good lacing. Retention is pretty good also..
Smell is really great. I could smell the floral resinous hops and some toasted malt from two feet away.
Taste is not quite up to the aroma but is about right for the low abv. Really good hop flavor but lacks the snap or bite of higher hopped beers of this style.
Mouthfeel is on the thinner side with a medium dry finish.
Overall an excellent APA with such a low alcohol content. A bit funky if you pour the yeast into the glass.

This one was in a can and then served in an old school pilsner at Bar Gernika in Boise.

Beer is gold with a thick and clingy off white head.

Nose of caramel malts and pine. It has a classic APA nose.

Beer has some pine based bitterness, a touch of sweetness, a bit of grains and some crackers. It is balanced and fresh tasting.

Mouth could use a touch more heft, but it does allow for an easy drinking session type beer.

I had this one while sitting outside enjoying a nice 70 degree April day. Must say it hit the spot.

Poured from 12oz can into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium-light orange hue with a fair haze and a moderate effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy ivory foam with a nice lace left on the glass. Pretty attractive!

Smell: light aroma of citrusy hops with a touch of malt in the background. The hop character is nice, but there's a watered-down feel to the aroma which detracts a lot from its appeal.

Taste: malty with a bit of an extract-malt character and a little hint of graininess. Hops have a citrusy, resiny quality, although hop character is not super forward. Bitterness is light but smooth, which is nice.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with an effervescent and body-lightening carbonation. Pretty satisfying!

Overall: this beer just has a bit of a homebrew-ey quality to it. I don't hate the beer at all, but it seems like it could be cleaner.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Karl Strauss pint glass
From: Whole Foods in Boise, Idaho
Price: $8.99 for a mix and match variety 6-pack
Purchased: Dec. 19, 2013
Consumed: Dec. 28, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured an amber orange hazy color with about four fingers of off-white frothy head. An above average amount of sporadic foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Great retention on the top all the way down.

Smelled a pleasant whiff of floral hops up front. Also citrus hops - lemon zest, lime and faint grapefruit. Some grass hops, honey and light vomit late. The smell doesn’t hold as long as I’d hope.

Tasted not as much as the smell as I would have thought. More like a pale ale here. Got slightly bitter floral hops, citrus hops - lemon and orange peel, and faint lime and grapefruit. Grassy, honey and wheaty.

Medium-to-full body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Soft carbonation. Bitter finish.

I really liked this beer. Just a very good pale ale.

12oz can to Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Pours a lovely golden color, minimal haze, creamy off white head and some decent lacing.

S: Hoping for a hoppy session ale with this one but I'm disappointed by the nose...toasted grains really unfold first, followed by hints of citrus, earth, and a few wood-like notes...maybe some flowers and herbs too but the hops are really backseat.

T: Toasted grains again, faint caramel, with a flash of earthy bitterness. Hop flavors are muted citrus again.Bready and slightly crackery malt here, much more malt than I would prefer from an APA.

MF: Lighter creamy body, solid carbonation and a lightly dry finish.

O: Not too impressed with this one. I'll try it again sometime to confirm my suspicions, but right now I have to wholeheartedly disagree with Payette's assertion of this being an APA thats 'heavy on the hops'.
