A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2013. Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described as a single hop ale; brewed with six types of malt and English Target hops.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy coppery-amber hue with fine sediment and low carbonation. Yields a small head of frothy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of biscuity caramel malt with hints of grain, grass/hay, floral hops, earthy yeast and faint herbs.

Tastes of caramel malt with a hoppy character and an earthy bitter finish. Notes of grass/hay, mild currants, floral hops, biscuits, faint toffee, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Dry, with a strident, peppery bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and mildly spicy. Good body, but a bit low on carbonation. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of bitter stewed hops, grass and earthy yeast.

A pretty good ale from Buxton, if not a stellar example of their abilities. Pleasant aroma and flavour, but the bitterness is a shade overpowering; it leaves the other hop notes in the dark. Gives the impression that Target is a solid bittering hop but less suited for aromatic purposes. More carbonation would also have added texture to the beer. A decent ale that is worth sampling, though I know Buxton can do better.

500ml bottle, bottle-conditioned. appearance: gold, diminishing head. smell:herbal/citrus hop. taste: medium sweetness, quite bitter. mouthfeel: medium. overall: strongly flavoured, and quite bitter for its low abv. A decent, hoppy bitter. Bought from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham.
